Somewhere along the line of US-3 sits a particular gas station I recently came across which occasionally offers the lowest gas prices in the area. Despite being nearly 6 miles from my house, it can be worth the deviation from my routine stop at the 7-11 on Amherst. Apropos of this, there's a little place I happened to spot along the way which, upon first appearance, seems like a hole-in-the-wall pizza joint known only as....Billy's Famous Pizza. After researching their menu courtesy of Yelp, I naturally had to go in and check this place out. Despite the very modest size of the pizza joint itself (not to mention the diminutive dining area), the menu is larger than the average local pizza joint. This place has all the essentials: wings, burgers, chicken sammiches, pizza (obviously), copious types of sides, not to mention almost any classification of subs you could think of. On this day, I decided to debut with my all time favorite sub - the steak & cheese. The best way I could describe this style of sandwich is a tube sub. If you saw the pic, you know what I'm talking about. But don't let its subtle appearance of subterfuge fool you. Because this sub is packed with plenty of meat and various vegetative innards of your choosing. Not to mention, they have a much more "beefed up" version known as "the steak bomb", if you're into that sort of thing. Now then, taste wise...I'd wager this sub is on par with D'Angelo (or Papa Gino's if you nasty). So, whilst not quite earth shattering, it's about a 7 out of 10 for me. I also tried the fries, which...they offer you plenty of in a brown paper bag. Actually...they double bagged it for good measure. Anyways, these were passable and innocuous enough to warrant a 7 out of 10 as well. I'd like to personally offer a shout-out to the incredibly cordial and friendly staff who served me that day. The counter ladies were wicked friendly and even addressed me by my name. Always a sweet touch! As you can probably imagine, this place is best for take-away rather than dining in. Though, the latter option is perfectly fine, so long as you arrive during a slow afternoon toward the middle or end of the week as I did. Near as I can figure, there's maybe 5 or 6 small tables in there, at best. In any event, I'd highly recommend take-away over dining in. One day I shall return. At which point, I wouldn't mind trying out some of their wings or perhaps even a tuna salad sub if I'm so audacious. For now, Billy's Famous Pizza gets 4 well packed cheesesteak tube subs out of 5. read more

This was my first time ordering from Billy's Famous Pizza and I am so glad I decided to. Many choices of different types of pizza and menu items. Upon calling to order my large extra pepperoni pizza I was greeted with a friendly and kind voice. When arriving and entering the restaurant it looked very clean with a few tables with patrons eating and then again greeted from a friendly and very out going employee. She was awesome I told her my name and she handed me my pizza and wished me a wonderful day. OMG the pizza was so delicious. The cheese and sauce ratio was spot on. I'm new to town and have been excited to try new pizza places and pick my favorite. I thought this would take awhile, but nope!Billy's was the second place we tried, and it's game, set match! Billy's pizza was absolutely delicious! In particular, we had a chicken finger and broccoli pizza and it was easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had. We stopped in at Billy's Famous Pizza in Merrimack, NH tonight. We have driven by it several times and decided to stop. Plenty of parking up front. Walked into the small restaurant. Staff was very friendly and restaurant was clean. Checked out the menu and ordered our own fav - a lg pepperoni with mushrooms and onions. We picked out our drinks from the cooler - do not think they serve alcohol but we were fine with our cokes. We ate at the restaurant. Not many diners but lots of traffic coming in for takeout. Pizza took about 15-20 min and it was worth the wait! It was very hot and delicious- it is Greek style pizza which I like. The crust was very good too. This is the best pizza I've had in Merrimack. Located in the Skyline Mall, I went to Billy's Famous Pizza on a Saturday evening to order a pizza. The atmosphere inside is very casual and bright, an order at the counter take out place with a small open kitchen behind the counter and table seating and a TV nearby. The menu offers pizza, calzones, pasta, dinner plates, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, bagged chips, baklava, rice pudding, and cold drinks (Coke products, juices, energy drinks) from two coolers. Pizza slices are availabe for $1.85 cheese/$2.05 one topping. The owners and staff work behind the counter making pizzas and food. Several people with families were here dining in and food was brought out to their tables, no silverware or dishes, paper plates, plastic utensils, and foil containers for the pasta dishes. The Mediterranean pizza and the cheese calzone looked pretty good. However, I decided on the California Pizza ($10 with tax) which was put together and placed in the oven as I was handing over the cash. The pizza was hot and ready in 15 minutes. Hi have never had their food before so one night my family wanted to order out so we chose to order from Billy's. It was a three person order nothing crazy and they messed up one of the subs which was turkey with mayo and relish hots, they put cheese on it. The rest of the order was OK. The next time we ordered , I ordered that same exact sub which was again a turkey sub with mayo and relish hots. well I got a turkey sub with cheese mayonnaise and banana peppers. I ordered a spinach and feta pizza. I couldn't wait to eat this pizza so I open the box and there was no melted cheese on top of the pizza at all it was all spinach and barely any feta cheese. So I drove back to the pizza shop and told them what happened they re-made my sub which had a pound of relish hots on it couldn't even eat it because of how hot it was. So since the spinach pizza was horrible I said you know what I'm just gonna order a small cheese pizza so they made me the small cheese pizza and I had to pay for it so that was another $19 that I had to spend when the bill was already $45 for the other food. I asked him to make me just a small cheese pizza because I didn't want the feta pizza anymore and I had to pay for the pizza so I spent another $19. I have been ordering from another pizza place in town and I will tell you they never miss anything not even on the busiest nights and I don't say that just to bash anybody but maybe it will make this pizza shop pay more attention to what they're doing. read more

I know pizza is a very opinionated subject. Everyone likes different styles, some like thick crust, some like thin, lots of cheese, light cheese, etc. But I gotta say, in my opinion, this pizza is not good. The crust is a slightly thicker crunchy version, almost Greek style but not quite. The pizza's are smaller than the 18" size at some of the other places in the area like Pizza Man or Bob's. The cheese is not very good, nor is the sauce. Put it this way, my daughter (10 years old) and her cousin (13 years old) gave the place 1 star...and these are two girls that LOVE pizza. They didn't even finish it, we ended up bringing it home and it got throw away. Now, that being said, if you like this style of pizza...well, then, you will like this style of pizza. But, to me, it's bland, too thick of a crust, the cheese isn't high quality and the sauce was below average. Mr. G's, Pizza Man or even Domino's is much better. While I am not very picky when it comes this delicious staple of the American diet, I can put it far and above all delivery pizzas I have ever had. The location in a dead strip mall should not fool you, these guys are fast and very generous when it comes to toppings. I personally like the buffalo chicken pizza. Billy's is AWESOME! I used to work right down the street and would order from there once a week. Now anytime I go through Merrimack, I make sure I stop in. Everything I've ever had there has been good. Greek style pizza, always fresh, lots of cheese and a flavorful sauce. Tuna wrap is good. Always fresh tuna, and believe me I can tell if it isn't. French fries are great, always crispy, never oily. But my absolute favorite is the chicken kabob dinner with rice and it comes with a side salad, and I always get the house dressing, which is great. I don't know what spices they use but it is the best house dressing I've ever had. And I'm 99% sure that they marinade the chicken in the same stuff. My mouth is watering.
