My BFF suggested Billy Yanks, so I brought my other BFF for dinner. A Wednesday afternoon at 5pm and they only had 3 tables empty. All I can say is this was some of the best service I have ever seen let along in a small restaurant/bar. The food was amazing and I can't wait to come back again. Seriously the food here is wonderful and with the best service ever. What more could you ask for. My friends soda didn't even come close to being empty, my drink was amazing and the water (of course Hamilton water is perfect) was so good My burger was perfectly prepared and the fries were yummy. The winner here at Billy Yanks is the crispy Brussels sprouts. Perfectly crisp. Excellent seasoning. Just right portion. DH ordered the Original Billy. He said it was okay--nothing that he would rave about or return for. I ordered the Big Blue plus mushrooms--they forgot the mushrooms. The burger itself was very good and had nice flavor and juices. Parking is mostly across the street in a public lot, fine for most but a bit more difficult for someone who uses a cane. Celebrated my birthday dinner here and decided to go all out and share appetizers with my husband for dinner. Neither of us could decide on what we wanted. So we went with the Thai Cauliflower, the Pretzel Bites with gouda pimento cheese, and the Macaroni and Cheese. The Thai Cauliflower was my favorite! It reminded me of General Tso's chicken, it was so good. It was slightly spicy, but definitely not too much. I kept seeing other tables order this so I knew it had to be a popular dish. Honestly, if I were going back I would order this as my entree. The pretzel bites were okay, I probably wouldn't order them again. The macaroni and cheese was really good, it came topped with crushed up barbecue chips that are local to the Cincinnati area. I had never heard of these chips before, but they are a spicy barbecue. Billy, I'll be honest, our introduction to you in 2023 before we moved to your hood wasn't anything special - not bad, but nothing to write home about. But now that we're almost neighbors, we've had a chance to really get to know you, and hot damn are we infatuated with what you've got going on. Sorry, hope that wasn't weird...let me explain. First, you're quite the host. I mean, you've got a freaking dedicated bourbon bar! And your resident (bartender) Matt is one stellar bourbon-slinger: super friendly, knowledgeable, and remembers who we are even though we don't come by to raid your stash as often as we'd like. But beyond that, you make some mean cocktails, especially with your fun monthly special concoctions. And even though you don't have a lot of beer on hand, you are no beer slouch. In fact, despite your limited quantity, you probably have some of the best variety and unique offerings in town, if not all of Cincinnati, especially for us hop heads. Prost good sir! But it does not stop with your libations. You have a humble "everyman" guise to the food you serve but in reality, your execution and creativity is Master Chef level my friend. And I'm not just talking about your monthly themes like Lent-time fish and chips, shrimp po'boy, and even a freaking shrimp etouffee. Or that coconut shrimp you served us last time over. No, even your "regular" meals are spectacular. That birria dip you make? Flavor bomb dude. And crunching freaking Grippo's on top of your mac and cheese!?!? But then you decided to start having us over for brunch on Sundays and I think that's going to end us, lol. And your simple-sounding biscuits & gravy that is lights out, with that bourbon maple vinaigrette? Yeah, you're "dressing" (see what I did there) our taste buds in Sunday's finest. You know, It also doesn't hurt that your roomies are just super nice, from answering the door to equipping us with your fine offerings; you just make us feel welcome every time. Three and a half stars, really. Good selection of food if you've got picky eaters in your party. I got the salmon croquet and liked it and really like the brussel sprouts. My nephew got som chili Mac and cheese. I wanted to love it. I love Mac n cheese so much that I don't have the most discriminating palate for it. Mac n cheese in a blue box? Yep. Frozen stouffers? Yep. Unfortunately the nephew's Mac n cheese didn't have a lot of flavor, the noodles were mushy and there wasn't much chili. It was really underwhelming... he didn't eat much and got a to go box, but I don't know that he actually ate the leftovers. I'd give it another chance, but all in all it was decent eats. read more

So...I'm writing this review from my couch while daydreaming about eating here. I'm not sure that any review that I write would accurately describe how good this place is. The "beginnings" are perfect. I never thought I would crave spam before, but their Spam fries do it. The Brussels and Chickpeas one of my favorite items on any local menu. The cauliflower is phenomenal. When it comes to the mains, you can't beat the burgers...well thought out toppings and awesomely presented. The Victory at Nashville chicken sandwich is great too. Walked in for lunch on a Friday and the place was very busy, but we got a table right away (the only free table in the place). The bar was packed as well. The service was slow, but she was hustling multiple tables and clearly doing her best. We weren't in a rush, so we didn't mind. It's a little loud and tight, but nicely decorated and clean. I ordered the big blue burger and it did not disappoint. Easily in the top 5 burgers that I have ever had, but the sesame bun took away from my enjoyment a little. I don't mind sesame buns, but this particular bun was covered in sesame seeds and it made the bun a little hard. Thankfully the burger was extra juicy and cheesy. I was excited for the fresh cut fries, but many of them were cold and hard. I suspect they sat in the kitchen for a while. They are cut very small, so it doesn't take long to cool. WOW! WOW! WOW! We came to Ohio from the Indianapolis area to visit Jungle Jim's... but we knew better than to go to the store hungry. So we stopped in at Billy Yanks! We were quickly greeted, seated and served! JoAnne was amazing and made wonderful recommendations. My husband loved the Old Fashioned... and in fact, he loved it so much that I didn't get a chance to take a solo picture. We ordered the Big Blue Burger with fries and the crispy Brussels. The burger was FABULOUS- so juicy and full of flavor. The fries were amazingly crispy and since we had the Big Blue- there were crispy onions mixed in and they added the perfect touch. BUT....... The crispy Brussels may be one of the best foods I've eaten in my life!!! After dinner, we headed to their bourbon bar and my husband ordered the "Devil went Down to Georgia"... a sweet and spicy bourbon and peach cocktail recommended by the bartender, Matt! We were passing through town and found Billy's on Yelp. Our server was really nice and we were able to watch a basketball game while we waited. It wasn't loud or rowdy which we appreciated. Great place for a date night or to meet up with friends. The food was pretty tasty. The Brussels sprouts and chickpeas had a hint of some kind of hot sauce. I liked it because it wasn't overpowering but it seemed like a little twist from what I've had at other restaurants. I ordered the fried bologna sandwich for nostalgic reasons and it didn't disappoint. I loved the added chips to give it a crunch and extra flavor. We would eat here again. Billy Yanks is a local restaurant located in Hamilton, Ohio. They have a bar, plenty of seating and an outside patio with umbrella tables. The atmosphere was nice and the servers were friendly. I was greeted as soon as I entered the establishment and seated. Andrew was my server. Shot out to Andrew for great customer service. He acknowledged and attended to me seconds from being sat down. My water came back seconds after I ordered. I told him I wanted the Going back to Cali burger and he said it was the best on the menu along with another burger he mentioned. The food did not disappoint. The Going Back to Cali burger had avocado, caramelized onions, bacon, Swiss cheese and arugula. It was accompanied by fries and a signature house sauce. The burger was juicy and pushed like the old school burger diners... so good. The avocado and arugula gave the burger some freshness. The bacon gave the burger that special element needed to take it over the top. The caramelized onions gave the burger a slight "crunch" for some texture. The fries were good and the signature sauce seemed like a cross from ranch to a thousand island type of look. With the service and the food, this place is truly a success. I enjoyed the unique titles of the foods on the menu and it made me curious and intrigued. I will be back to enjoy the deep fried devil eggs and more. I really enjoyed my chance visit to Billy yanks and give it my first 5 star in awhile. I was a single diner at the bar so I sat promptly. The food and drink menu all seem to be handcrafted and unique spins on comfort food. It was pretty full at 8pm on a Saturday. I started with the Wedge salad and wine. My entree was the Cajun meatloaf. Not too spicy but just enough Cajun flavor. Being fall they have a few pumpkiny menu items. I tried the pumpkin spice old fashioned and it was incredible. To top it off I had the apple pie bread pudding. Great way to end the meal. The vibe is a nice clean gastropub in the heart of downtown Hamilton. Keep up the good work! read more
