I had Prime Rib Stroganoff tonight, & it was delicious! A very large serving with lots of prime rib chunks, mushrooms, a wonderful sauce, & sour cream, over noodles, with garlic toast. My hubby had the Seafood Platter, & enjoyed it very much. Our server was David, who is always friendly, & fun to talk to.We have been coming here for years, & always enjoy our meals, & the friendly staff! Service: The waitress was friendly and helpful, no problems there. Atmosphere: again, no complaints. Open, friendly, comfortable. Food: Oh god, the food. The salad was $2 extra-which we didn't find out until the bill came-and it was bagged iceberg lettuce, 1 baby carrot, and 1 slice of cucumber. To be honest it would be been better with just lettuce in the same way a $1 tip on a $40 meal is worse than no tip at all. I had a chicken sandwich; it was 10 inches long and literally 2-3 inches on either side there was nothing. It looked as if the cook put a piece of chicken in the middle, cut it in half, and called it good. Moving the chicken to one side resulted in a half empty sandwich, not good enough for a $11 meal. In their defense they were kind enough to cook up another piece of chicken to complete the sandwich. The rest of the food was mediocre at best, obviously low quality. I've had better cafeteria food. In the end the food just wasn't very good and there's no getting around that. No one in our group would go back. read more

Had concerns about eating here because the reviews are mixed. And we'd already had too many disappointing eating experiences along the coast. But we were tired after and it was late, so we said what the hell and went in. About every other item on the menu seems to have "deep fried" in it's actual title. Ok... My wife had the fish and chips. No doubt the fish came out of a frozen packet, as did the fries, but both were okay. Better actually than what we had at the hyped Crazy Norwegians. The kids were fine with their meals. I ordered a burger, and it was big and juicy, much better than what I was expecting. 4-5 stars. If you are careful about what you order here, you can have a good meal. read more

My family and I recently stopped by Billy Smoothboars the other day while we were on a trip in Oregon. The food was alright, but the execution itself was just terrible. I'd like to see this restaurant on Kitchen NIghtmares, to be honest xD We were seated at a table by the window, which had ants crawling on it.. eew. When my family asked if we could sit elsewhere, our server apologized and allowed us to choose a different table. A nearby table, our first choice, also had ants. We chose a larger table in the middle of the room after that (which had no ants this time). It wasn't ideal for us, a family of four, to occupy a table for twice as many people... but there really wasn't anyplace else to sit without ants. Another staff member came out and wiped down the windowsill and our old table with a washcloth. Just a washcloth, no disinfectant or anything like that. The menus were disgusting. Torn, wrinkled, old menus that were stained. I hope they burn those nasty old things and print out new ones. Our appetizers were actually really good, along with the salads my mom, dad, and brother ate. We had sweet potato fries, which tasted fresh and were nice and crispy. Our server brought over ketchup for us as well, and their delicious cranberry bread. Still, we weren't given plates for our appetizers. I left quite a mess of crumbs on the table mat after that. Our entrees were terrible. I had the Chicken Parmesan, which had twice as much pasta as necessary. The sauce was watery to the point that you could hardly call it sauce anymore. The chicken had almost no flavor and just a little bit of moisture. The breading came off rather easily (not to mention how gross it looked), and the chicken was hard to cut. My brother had chicken tenders, which were charbroiled to the point of no return. My chicken was nowhere near as dry as his, err... tenders. Is it okay to call them that? They were anything but tender, really. His french fries were alright, though. As for my dad, he had the BBQ Ribs (with additional grilled prawns, which were amazing). The outside edges were a little bit dry, but the insides were moist and delicious. No complaints from him on this meal. Now, my mom... she ordered a Filet Mignon steak, medium-rare. It came out with the texture of a medium rare steak, but the taste of liver. The juices were brown instead of pink. The meat was brown, with barely any pink in the middle. When we sent it back, the chef came out and said it was fine and had come to the proper temp. for medium rare on the meat thermometer. He didn't refire a new one for her, he just came out and gave my mom the steak she was obviously unhappy with before. "Dude, I don't know what to tell you, but this is medium rare." He called my mom 'dude.' Where's the respect for your customers? And 30 dollars for a steak? It better be done right for such a hefty price, you know? My dad talked to the manager about that before we left. He asked why they couldn't have refired another one (after all, my mom was dissatisfied with what she paid for). What happened to 'the customer is always right?' The manager, well... she said that the Filet Mignon was their most expensive item, and they didn't want to waste their product. Overall, it could have been worse. The staff just needs to improve the execution of their product, and be more willing to take a loss in profits if they don't satisfy their customers. read more

NASTY! My grandparents have gone here many time and said it was fantastic, we went there tonight looking for a good dinner. They said they usually have great service, but tonight it was horrible. First we were the only ones in there except two older men by them selves, one came in before us and one after us. The one after us was not afraid to call the waitress out for being so slow, he even went in to the back and asked how long it would be. She was very rude and mean to this nice old man. We order our drinks and waited what feel liked forever until one of the other waitresses had brung the drinks knowing it was going to take a while. When our waitress came out with one of the drinks like 2 minutes later. She then ordered our food and I got the Teriyaki Chicken with roasted veggies and a twice baked potato. First I tried the veggies after a few bites I bit something hard and crunchy in something soft and squishy. I thought I chipped my tooth, so I spit it out and checked if I did chip a tooth but I didn't. Then I tried my potato and it was SO NASTY, my grandma tried it and said the same thing. Was in town visiting my sister n law and she took me here. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great and beautifully decorated for Christmas. The server however seemed like she did not want to be there. When I asked her about a desert menu she replied, "oh they are over there." And pointed to a cooler. The food is another thing. I ordered a seafood appetizer and it was overcooked. The calendar was tough and the fish was not flaky. The burger, though messy, was ok. It's a 45 minute drive, so we go to Billy Smoothboars only on special occasions, but over the past couple of years the problems with their service and food have become consistent and unacceptable. I was hoping things would get better, but it's not so it's time to write a review. Our last visit was for our 40th anniversary. I made reservations a week in advance, expecting to spend a lovely evening in their dining room which is always decorated for the holidays. It was a stormy night, but we arrived on time and gave the waitress our reservation information only to be told that they had no record of our reservation. Not only that, but there was a large party who had booked the entire dining room, so we'd have to settle for the bar area or the lunch room. Obviously we had been bumped. We chose the lunch room, reluctantly, and met our waitress who came with a very surly attitude. We ordered clam strips as appetizers, medium rare new york steak and prime rib, both with baked potatoes. The lunch room was full, so the wait for food was longer than usual...the salads were nothing to write home about, the very cold bread was tossed into a metal basket some lying on a folded napkin some underneath the napkin sticking out through the slats of the basket. When we asked for butter for the bread we were directed to look under the bread in the basket...sure enough, there were the pre-packaged butter slices "under" the bread. The clam strips were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed them. The steak and prime rib were over cooked and the steak was so tough it was work to saw bites off. The new york was only char-broiled on one side, the other was an unappealing grey. The baked potato that came with the prime rib was under cooked by about 30 minutes, and the vegetables were 90 percent diced squash plated up as if someone was in a hurry. It was the worst anniversary meal we've ever had and the whole experience was very disappointing. Every time the waitress came to our table it was obvious she didn't want to be there. Never again!! We went with a couple of ancient locals with a high recommendation. They suspected that it changed hands because the prices went up since the last time they were there and the food was horrible. I got a refund for a 12 oz $19 prime rib that was very thin, over cooked, and so tough I could hardly cut it and could NOT chew it. They made me pay for the chowder that came with the meal and it was nothing to rave about. The white bread that came before the meal was dry but the cranberry bread was out of this world. The rest of the food was fair to bad and should have been refunded. The manager apologized a 100 times but nothing could get any of us to go back there again. read more

Family decided to come here last week after reading mixed reviews. One plate of prawns(6 prawns for $21) was still cold in the middle (clearly frozen, and seemed very microwaved) it had a freezer burnt taste. The other plate of prawns someone ordered was well over cooked and rubber. The twice baked potatoes seemed to have been re-heated multiple times. The clam chowder was very watered down and bland. I am not a picky eater, nor was the group i was with. That being said, the food was was so severely lacking and expensive it prompted me to write a review for the first time. Worst dining experience in Bandon! Took my mother here for lunch, we wanted prime rib but all they offered was a prime rib sandwich. It was cold, greasy and tough. Fries were very greasy and mushy. When I asked for lemon for my iced tea the waiter, who was VERY rude, brought a slice of lemon with his BARE FINGERS then plopped it in my glass with a very snotty "there" I did NOT drink it! Was I ever embarrassed! I was hosting our RV group in Bandon and they suggested we go out to eat. I stated that I had heard bad things about the place they suggested so on my recommendation we went to Smoothboars. FIRST THE GOOD. Those that had seafood got good dinners. The BAD. BUT those that had beef were extremely displeased. One woman got Prime beef and half of it was fat. When she complained to the server he said what did she expect it was the butt of the cow. He said she should not order it next time she came in.(There will be no next time) The UGLY. The sever terrible!!! There were 12 people and as we waited for a slow service we ran out or water. We asked for more and he brought to small containers of water for the large group. Finally we got our meals and he disappeared. As we were all drinking water we ran out and were never approached so we could ask for more water. When he finally returned with the bills we said isn't there supposed to be bread with the meals? The reply was "I guess it's a little late isn't it. I suppose you still want the bread?" We said yes, as I remembered the cranberry bread as being very good and others wanted to try it. He wasn't pleased so he plopped it on the table with a rude comment. After all this we were charged 18% for service of a group. What service!!!!! On top of that we were the only ones the restaurant.( There may have been more in the bar) For two days I tried to call and get a manager of the owner as I thought the owner or the manager would be interested in our complaints. They were never available to talk . I really wanted to support the local businesses but I will find others to support. read more

We decided to give this place a try as it was closest to where we were staying, were initially concerned about the reviews we read here but went anyway. The service was actually quite good, very attentive and they were busy. We had the prime rib alfredo which was very good. The problem came with the steak we ordered which came out well done when we ordered medium so back to the kitchen it went. It took 15 minutes to get a replacement and the server had to keep hounding the cook. For that reason, we won't be back. They did offer a free dessert as an effort to compensate us. What they should have done is given us the dinner for free, or at least the value of the meat. read more

We were going to try another place but found their prices to high so we came here. We've been here once before, a yr ago and kinda forgot about it but after tonight there is no forgetting thus place. We were seated right away and had our drink orders taken soon after. Our waitress was attentive and fun. I ordered the special, Diablo ckn., with spinach and parmesan soup. OMG that soup was frickin awesome. I want the recipe. Our waitress warned me that my ckn will be spicy hot. Cool I like spice. A second waitress, a real hoot, told me more about it and we talked hot peppers for a bit. We laughed so much then we huged and off she went. My husband had babyback ribs and thought they could have been cooked a tad less but I noticed his plate was empty. My ckn left a nice warmth in my mouth as I ate my mashed garlic potatoes and veggies. Yes the cute little Amish fireplace is still in the corner. It gives the place a homey feel. For 2 dinners and 2 non-alcoholic drinks before tip it was under 40 bucks. We were pleasantly full and had a fun time as well. read more

Traveling through Bandon Oregon my husband and I stopped for dinner. Let me start off by saying the staff was super nice and helpful! We had the calamari appetizer and it came out fast & hot, it was yummy. I had the chicken fried steak with gravy and garlic mashed potato's and it was very good. My husband had Steamers in garlic wine and butter and he thought it was delish. They have an extensive menu selection to choose from and a full bar with quick service. read more

This is our first and last time to this place. I guess it must be a great spot to drink because there are usually cars there at night. The burger my mother had was" not the worst i have ever had, but close". I had a Reuben that was just not edible the meat was so tough and the tater tots were almost cold. Very poor service in the bar. It took almost 10m before the waitress came to our table as two of them chatted behind the bar counter. It then took over 20m before our food arrived with a bar and restaurant that was only a third full. Two tables including ours, were given the wrong orders that delayed our meal further. The food was average at best. We ate at so many other good to great restautants on our trip to Bandon that this place should probably be avoided. read more

Have been going to Billy's for the last six years. Something changed this year and we probably won't be going back. Prime rib was microwaved and very over cooked. Chicken parm was tasteless and over cooked. They offered soup and then ran out. Service was slow. Glasses sat unfilled most of the dinner. My wife and I thought we would give this a try since it was close to where we were staying. We both ordered prime rib, which they advertise out front on a big sign. They were both well done after ordering them medium and medium rare. Normally I would of sent it back but I didn't think it make our experience any more enjoyable. I had four people on my ticket and the party I was with had four as well. I would have tipped her more but I feel very bad on the restaurants part not to say something and to have caused their waitress to get less of tip than I would have left. This place used to be excellent, so while camping we wanted a good home cooked meal. The waitress was horrible, it took 45 minutes after we were seated to get water and another 20 minutes for her to take our order, never refilled our sodas and there were only 2 other couples in the building. We ordered and the appetizers were OK, but we got our soup and salad after our meal had came and the main entree food was TERRIBLE !!!!!!!!! We ordered chicken strip baskets, prime rib and top sirloin. The chicken strips were so dry and tasteless even my teenage boys wouldn't eat them . The prime rib was yellowish looking and soggy. Top sirloin was OK, dry with no flavor. The twice baked potato was disgusting it was hard on the bottom with some slimy white stuff on top and what was supposed to be vegetables were gray and moldy looking. We were so disappointed, there wasn't even anybody to complain to so we just paid our over $100 bill. We will NEVER go back there again. read more

Excellent steakhouse, not found in most tourist listings...may be more a local favorite. Steak was done to perfection. Service was courteous and the waitress attentive without being pesty. Vegetables were not my favorite but with steak that good, I didn't care. Am surprised as I now see so many negative reviews...for me it was a great a great meal at a great price, especially compared to old town prices. read more

Not a bad place but the service is less than desirable seems that if the service is bad and you don't tip the next time around the service is worse. To top it off the owner appears not to return calls so has no desire to correct his service deficiency. The food was fair but the burgers are on par with fast food a little to much grease and the fries were limp, the salads were good but cabbage in the chef's salad was a new experience, sauteed mushroom and onions in the french dip was different but digestible. All in all there are many places in Bandon that will give a much better dinning experience for your buck and you may even feel the service deserves a tip. read more

We all ordered the Prime Rib dinner and it was everything you could ask for. The veggies were perfect, fresh and crisp. The service was pleasant. The atmosphere was great.
