Our server was very attentive!! After we ordered she brought us a carafe of the best tasting water. I liked this since I drank the entire bottle. I had the fish n chips (2pcs of fish). The fish was lightly breaded and had a good taste. Large portion of fries n coleslaw. This was just enough food with the fries which I normally do not eat. My husband had the 1/3lb boar burger. Pretty slow service too, we asked for refills on our sodas when our food was brought to us and by the time we were finished eating and ready to pay we still didn't get our drinks. My husband got fettuccine Alfredo, it was literally like soup, shirmp that was on it was over cooked and had a frozen taste (even though this place is on the coast), price was 19$ and be barley touched it. Kids got prime rib and fries 11.50, prime rib was over cooked and Luke warm. Kids ate it though they were hungry. Mom got country fried steak.. tasted like t.v dinner, at 15.50 totally not worth it AT ALL! Came to Bandon for the weekend and was pleased to find this charming local restaurant just down the street from our lodging. The food was great, the service every bit as good and we came away well pleased with our experience. If I had to find fault, it would be the same as many eating establishments in that the food could have come to the table hotter. By the time I got part way through the meal it was getting lukewarm. That being said, we had Prime Rib and it was a good cut of meat, well-cooked, and quite tasty. The bread tray was comprised of sourdough and c red cranberry bread, both of which were excellent. I would recommend this establishment to anyone liking steak and seafood. read more

We were so disappointed with this place. Definitely not worth the price. We ordered wings for an appetizer which were very dry and had no flavor. For entrees we ordered the fettuccine marinara and the bacon blue cheese burger. Neither were very good and the burger had so much blue cheese you couldn't even taste the rest of it. While I am a frequent reader of Yelp reviews, I never thought I'd ever be writing one myself. Billy Smoothbrain's...er...Smoothboars was the absolute low light of a group vacation to Bandon, OR.  Imagine, if you will: 3 couples meet from places like Nice, France and Denver, CO to enjoy this beautiful little seaside town for 4 days. The scenery is stunning. There's a salmon fishing derby happening. There are dunes to be pounded with dune buggies. It's not a high brow affair, it's just good, clean fun.  The local markets have fresh local seafood and produce. We prepared some of it ourselves on the first night there. On the 2nd night, someone got this great idea -- instead of cooking, let's eat at the place at the entrance to the resort community. It has to be good, right? (cue horror movie music) We drive out to Billy's. We're greeted by a big "Trump" sign. Now, I have nothing against either Trump or Clinton, except that they're both friggin' wingnuts who clearly need to be sized up for straitjacket. But I digress. We walk inside and see the usual plastic sea critters stuck in a net that's stapled to the wall. Okay, whatever, I'm not a decorator. And it doesn't smell horrible, so we help the waitress push a couple of tables together and sit down. She tosses five laminated menus on the six-top table. Well, we're all literate and can share. She wants to take our food order. We haven't ordered drinks yet, so we gently ask if the bar is open and if we can get some drinks going first. She gets the hint...we think there may be some hope. We get some drinks, and now we've had some time to review the menu. Every place up and down the coast brags on their clam chowder. The rivalries and trash talk are apparently fierce enough that the Jets and the Sharks bust out the switchblades and the zipguns on Friday nights at the farmer's market, so we all want to order that as an appetizer. Then we find that all of the seafood is breaded and fried. Dang. Well, once in awhile, that's okay. So we order. Drinks go empty. We're dry for so long that when Snoopy's cousin, Spike, finally rolls in from Needles, CA, we try to roll his beagle ass for a flask. The waitress must have heard the barking, growling and yelping, and she finally brought another round. We settle down. One of the French guys who are with us is wondering if this is normal American restaurant behavior. We assure him that all is well. And keep drinking. Finally the food arrives. All at once. We now have clam chowder and various lumps of fried, breaded stuff with French fries in front of us,  "Ah, pomme frites?" Sebastian asks. But they're lukewarm. Y'know, where the grease isn't really coagulated yet, but it's getting there fast.  We don't have enough silverware for the table, so we ask our waitress if she might be able to scare some up. Mind you, the place isn't crowded: there are maybe two other tables besides ours. She disappears for a few minutes, then comes back and drops a handful of flatware on the table in a pile. Then leaves to go talk to the other table for awhile.  I think her parents let her eat too many paint chips as a child. We get food distributed to everyone at the table - except for the lady who suggested Smoothbrain's in the first place. So we take a few minutes to reel in Ms. Lead Poisoning 2016 to see if we can get our friend's order brought out. She goes to the back and comes back with the news that she forgot to place the order for it, so it'll be a little while. Our friend insists that we eat before the food gets cold(er). It didn't help. The chowder clearly came from Campbell's of Camden (that means "from a can" for those of you still at Billy's). Everything else was greasy, deep fried grossness. None of it was identifiable. We ate slowly until our friend's food came, and even though her food was hot, it only took a couple of bites before she'd had enough. We settled up and left, hoping our guts wouldn't rebel before we got back to the house. Short story: don't eat here, unless you simply have a soft spot in your heart for kids who chewed on too many windowsills. read more

First,I want to commend Katie for her outstanding service! We were a group of about 20 people coming from a memorial service and we received the best service. The food was outstanding and the staff was great. I'm not sure how the kitchen handled all of our orders perfectly and with great timing for that many people (along with the other guests at the restaurant) , they deserve to definitely be acknowledged! This place serves good home cooked meals. I had the charbroiled white fish, garlic mashed potatoes, steamed veggies and salad. Everything was real good. I was excited to go to a nice restaurant. My friend ordered calamari and a house salad. Calamari was chewy! Salad wasn't brought until she had finished the calamari! My taco salad was very good and my husband's fish and chips were good. We waited 15 minutes for water. Everyone in the dining area waited 30-45 minu tes for their food, including us. Deplorable service. Server was very apologetic. Comped our salad. We won't be back and I won't recommend. This place is one to avoid. The service is pathetic only to be matched by the poor quality of the food. We ordered steamers for an appetizer. I specifically told our server we wanted the clams first and to delay the main meal. Then she shows uo with our salads. Then the steamers, cold and not so fresh tasting. Terrible!!! My wife, father in law and I dined at Billy Sommthboar's Restaurant on 5/24/14 @ 5:14 pm. We looked over the menu and my father in law asked Elizabeth, the waitress "how are your prime rib dinners, is the prime rib good?" Elizabeth stated "they are excellent, really good." My wife and her dad ordered the 12 oz prime rib dinner based on Elizabeth's recommendation. I ordered the Deep Fry Platter. So far, so good. Our orders arrive in a timely manner and both my wife and her dad cut into their prime rib dinners. Both of them had trouble cutting the steaks and after chewing their steaks for a minute stated "this is tough, this is really tough." Elizabeth dropped by a few minutes later and said "how are things going?" My father in law said these steaks seem to be tough. My wife agreed with her dad. Elizabeth said, maybe we need to sharpen our knives a bit, they aren't very sharp. Both my wife and her dad said it's a tough steak, it's not the knives. Eventually Elizabeth brought our bill. I told her we would appreciate it if she could see if the manager would take a little off the bill since the steaks were like shoe leather. This is the part that really pissed us all off. Elizabeth then said "we had a complaint about the steaks being tough a little earlier." I'll go check and see if the manager will do something. Hello? We tried to get someone's attention because we had a question about the menu. We were never brought water. The location is very convenient off the main road, the first thing I noticed was how clean the restaurant was and how friendly the service was. Me and my husband visited for dinner, I had the Scallops Fettuccini, they were jumbo size and absolutely delicious. The garlic side bread it came with was very tasty too. This place was lovely! It's the night before Christmas Eve and we're three hungry, tired, road-torn Californians. The restaurant was decked out in Christmas gear, all the way to the small details - green placemats with red napkins. Very nicely done. Two of us split the ribs and chicken combo. Plenty of food for two people. The third had fish and chips. Not a single complaint on the food from any of us. The service was good, even offering a hotel recommendation. We went back yesterday, and things have changed a little now. So I'll just briefly update here: The food is still excellent other than my salad which could've been better. It was pretty much all lettuce, with no extra veggies other than 2 slices of cucumber and 2 baby carrots. My shrimp fettucini was overpriced and bathing in something buttery. Not especially cool. Bread is still awesome though :) The decor has changed to more of the country kitchen look is one thing I really noticed. It's more frilly & less rugged. The animals are off the walls, and the music is David Lanz instead of Randy Travis. There's a book about God up on a shelf. The character has changed, and though I can say even though I love David Lanz and didn't really dig the dead animals all over the place ............ What they had going before really worked, and the character of this place is now lacking to some extent. I still like it; just not as much this time. I went in with low expectations but they still managed to surprise me with how bad it was. Like other reviewers have said, the waitresses were very good, but the kitchen wait times and food quality were poor poor poor. The only good thing we had was the tater tots, those were crispy. I had a burger and it was obviously frozen and preformed, still managed to be a little undercooked even though it took an hour for us to get our food. There were maybe four other people in the restaurant, I don't know why the wait was so outrageous. I do not recommend this place, over priced frozen food that took forever. However, their water tasted like chemicals which seems to be a theme in Bandon restaurants. I had to switch my water out for club soda. And this restaurant's service is really slow. Four stars for still serving "Bush Beef" instead of locally grown organic beef or using Oregon Country Beef. Remember folks, over 80 nations still embargo American beef and unless you know where it is from, you should too. Did you know this is one of the few places left a person can sit, eat and smoke in? My lady friend really likes that! The bar area doesn't look like a dingy bar, it looks like you are eating in a nice little restaurant. Interior decor in the bar section is sports-oriented but for sports viewing, this place sitll uses obsolete standard TV's instead of up-to-date large screen HDTV's. Hey guys, if you have enough money to run a class joint, spend a few thou and get some real screens in there, okay? For food, they give you Oregon logger sized portions when it comes to their sandwiches. You will not be hungry when you leave! My lady friend had some sort of fancy cranberry turkey sandwich and liked it enough to order it again. I had a club sandwich the first time that was a bit rough on the inside of my mouth, so I went with some prawns the next time. They were okay but not as good as the ones at Captain's Choice in Charleston. Now if only they would serve good beef, I'd try their burgers! Service staff was decently attentive and friendly. They're worth tipping. The bathrooms are clean but small. The fireplace is a phony one but how many places have any, let alone a real one? It adds ambience to that little area in the back we like to sit at. The parking lot is LARGE so you can bring in a really big pcikup, van or car without having to fight for a spot in the lot. The signage along US 101 is OBVIOUS so you can't miss the place and that's always a good thing when you're driving 55. All in all, for a place that doesn't score a 100 in my book, it goes down as reasonably acceptable. The food was terrible. Fish and Chips were saturated and dripping grease. Kids prime rib was full of fat. After cutting off the fat there was little meat left. The hamburger my daughter ordered was pure pink/red all the way through. They forgot to bring my son's cup of clam chowder and my dinner salad had quite a few brown pieces of lettuce. A nice bread basket that arrived quickly may have been the best thing. Along with the usual rolls it included a couple of slices of the house made cranberry bread which was delicious. The wife chose the 8oz prime rib which came with boring steamed veggies and twice baked potatoes that had a very strange texture, like not fully cooked. The beef came looking gray and bland. It tasted much better after dipping in the au jus. She powered through it as we were starving but it wasn't good. My entrée choice was the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs. I usually am sure to ask for my ribs with sauce on the side but forgot this time. Big mistake. They came slathered with sugary sauce and were overcooked to the point of falling apart.
