I needed to make a 2019 IRA contribution by 4/15/20, and of course, I procrastinated until today…read more Due to the Covid-19 social distancing requirements, I was not even sure if they were open. I was pleased to find that the office was open, and had implemented safety measures to protect both their staff and customers. They have installed a monitor and a drop box in their vestibule. So you can step inside, speak to a customer service representative on the monitor, place your transaction paperwork in an envelope, and leave it in the box. They had extra pens and hand sanitizer available. Mission accomplished. Thank you. I went into the Annapolis office I believe 7 times to purchase mutual funds in those accounts, and always received a receipt showing what fund my dollars had been used to purchase. This last time, my daughter calls saying Fidelity called her asking what she wanted to do with the "cash" deposit I made, and told me that it had happened once before. So I told her and she had to call Fidelity back and tell them what fund to buy. Why was I given a receipt showing that I purchased shares in a mutual fund when they only made it cash deposit? After my conversations with Fidelity, they said they could only accept cash from me to fund the accounts. I thought, in that case, I should not waste my time by going by their office ...instead, it seems I should just mail my daughter a check but that burdens her with having to deal with Fidelity. I was told by Fidelity a work around would be for me to purchase the mutual funds in my personal account and then transfer the fund itself into the grandchild's account. Obviously, I can do this all online, but that approach is ludicrous. They offered to take cash deposits if I wanted to do so at their office, buy why should I? Wow! This is odd. I have no reason to go into their office ever again.
