Went here on a Wednesday evening around 7 PM. It's located off Mt. Moriah Road in a shopping plaza. They were hosting a bowling tournament that night, so it was pretty crowded. The inside has a very old-school bowling alley vibe. Music was playing, and the concession stand is right at the front, with lanes on both sides. You place your food order at the counter and receive a buzzer for pickup. I was actually surprised by how large their menu was for a bowling alley, and they use a classic flat-top grill to cook everything. After placing my order, I stepped aside to wait. One of the cooks asked if I had a buzzer and let me know it would go off when my food was ready--it came off a bit abrupt, but nothing major. There were plenty of lanes available, even with the crowd. The bowling shoes, however, looked very worn and outdated. The laces didn't look the cleanest, which made me a little hesitant, but I still went ahead and bowled. Food took about 30 minutes, but everything came out fresh. I ordered the Philly, which was pretty good. I also tried the blue Kool-Aid, though it tasted more like Powerade. The music selection was good and kept the energy up while bowling. This facility is undergoing major renovations. I bowl on an all women's league on Tuesday morning. Because the women's inside restroom is out of order right now, we have to use a restroom trailer located outside the front door, which is ran by a generator. This morning when I arrived, we could not even use the outside restroom because someone had forgotten to get gas to run the generator. Without the generator, you do not have any water to flush the toilets or wash your hands. Eventually, I guess someone finally got some gas. The place is a mess with paint, drywall and all kinds of construction equipment all over the place. It is very dusty and dirty!!! We had problems with the lanes and computers. I also saw a worker using a Vaping device inside. Apparently, the owners only think about the money and not what they make leagues go through to bowl here. We deserve better than this!!! read more

The person selling lanes and shoes treated me horribly from the moment I walked in, and then yelled at me for retrieving a ball (I did not cross the foul line). This has to be the cleanest bowling alley I have ever been in. Perhaps that's because where I come from people chain smoke, drink whiskey out of jugs in brown paper bags and wear lots of denim and leather while knocking out a few strikes. Good luck getting out of that scenario without smelling like an ashtray. Regardless, it was something we put up with once a year for the obligatory "Dude! We gotta go bowling!" outing. I would actually come to this place more often- I'm not joining a league, I just said more often than once a year. The common areas and lanes are clean, spacious, there's well kept tables with attached swivel chairs for your teams and both the liquor and snack bar seem to be pretty well stocked. They've even got a few options for the vegetarians, who knew? I saw all ages here tonight as well- couples, leagues, a few children's parties and families. Came here with my boyfriend for cosmic bowling. We had been bowling for about an hour and he went to get us 2 cups of water. Apparently they don't give out cups of water during cosmic bowling. Like wow, we're paying customers and they have the nerve to deny us a styrofoam cup with water, but gladly point out the water fountain in the back. I wear Invisalign so I can only drink water while I'm wearing them and my boyfriend doesn't drink soda, so making us walk to the back every time we want some water is ridiculous. This was one of my favorite bowling alleys, but not anymore since they only care about making money off of styrofoam cups full of soda and plastic cups of beer. I honestly didn't even want to finish bowling and we paid $28 for 2 hours, so I had to keep going. This totally ruined my night and experience. I don't drink soda or alcohol and i can't get a water. can't buy water, can't bring in my own cup to use the displayed water fountain. i don't get it. so now i am having to buy a soda to pour it out just to get some water. the vending machines don't have water either. maybe Billy's Hardwick's All Star Lane should consider selling bottled water. This is my second time here and had the same issue last time. However last time they finally gave me a cup for water after about 30 minutes of one employee telling me i could get a cup of water and the other telling me i couldn't. while being here this time there was also another guy complaint about how he could not get any water. ridiculous. read more

This is the second year in a row that I've had my birthday here and for the second year in a row it's been one of the best times of my life. The food was really good, the staff was more than pleasurable. The lanes were in pristine condition considering the amount of bowling done there on a daily basis. When we reached the end of the our second hour of bowling we still had 3 frames left. The management said they couldn't let us buy more time because there was league play right behind us. Them like magic as soon as we're down to the last minute, 10 more minutes appeared. Then when the league showed up late, they did it again and gave us 10 more min so we could finish out game. I truly love this place and will continue to go there as often as possible. My family and I had an absolute blast all around. Thank you so much. Enjoyed my night of cosmic bowling here. It was $14 and some change per person to bowl for 2 hours with shoe rental on a Saturday night. I'm no frequent bowler but I thought this was a great deal! Mixed crowd. Good music. Fun night. Balls were abundant () and the people around me were cool about sharing and having a good time. I didn't eat but the food looked and smelled good at the table next to me. Beer was also available. Open parking. Security. Tvs showing the games. First thing I do need to mention is how Nice the entire staff is at this place. The staff makes me feel bad about leaving an overall negative review, but there is much to be desired about this bowling alley. I understand this place has a long history, and I respect that. But we found the place to be very dingy, the lanes were too slippery prior to the throwing threshold, and the lanes themselves were uneven resulting in the balls my children threw taking practically 45-degree turns at times. Further, the place is not child friendly. There are no gutter-bumper options and it does not have children balls (at least we found none during this visit) so our kids had to use 8 pound balls and that was difficult. The other balls we had were filthy and greasy. I leave the review because most of this is fixable and I hope it is tended to so we can return and have a better experience. read more

Billy Hardwick's appears to be an older bowling alley in the city of minimal choices. I liked the way the layout is where you have 46 lines available(23 on each side) to bowl. I visited during the early afternoon for a team building event and bowled 2 games. The facility appeared to be well maintained and they pumped the music up where it was not too loud to allow conversations not to be interrupted. There is also have a kitchen and serve beer but my group was not allowed to indulge in this. I'm giving it 5 stars because I mean how nice can a bowling place really be? It's an old a$$ place. It's not fancy, it's not new and sparkly inside. It's rundown with 80s all over it BUT it is what it is. They have a FULL BAR! I think that's why I'm giving them 5 stars and they seemed to have decent food although I didn't have any . The women's bathroom smelled like Christmas which made me feel cozy. At around 7ish the blue lights came on and the lanes are glow in the darkish. Decent music too. For their 30th anniversary update: Nice updated bowling lanes, with new signage, newer computers, tables, equipment, and lockers. Would not recommend on the weekends. The bowlers in our group paid $12 for shoes and two cosmic bowling games. I was charged ten dollars just to *watch* my friends bowl. I can understand not wanting loitering at your bowling alley, but a 35-year-old woman with a shoulder injury as part of a large, paying, reserved group? I was the only one in our group not bowling. No apologies were made, no future credit, no nothing, even after speaking with the owner. I understand keeping riff-raff out who aren't going to eat or bowl, but this is a bit ridiculous. To top it off, the young boy taking money at the door had absolutely no social skills and could not explain the policy, nor was a sign with this pricing posted at the door, nor was this information passed along to our group's birthday girl when she made the reservation. I hope this is not the policy on weekdays as well. It makes me wonder, would they charge the moms of a kids' birthday party guest $10 to enter as well? (take a deep breath) All that aside, the cosmic effects are nice and made for nice photos, and the lockers and bathrooms function fine. They did run out of lighter weight bowling balls late on a Saturday evening- our group of ladies ended up with a bunch of twelve to fifteen pound balls, and we encountered countless other people scanning all of the racks for a lighter ball as well. We were informed that six pound balls are available for kids behind the desk. The computer was not functioning or scoring spares and strikes properly, so everyone's scores were incomplete. They sent someone over to work on them, but they didn't fix anything, unfortunately. My drink from the bar was nice and strong, and the bartender was super busy but still managed to have a smile on her face, which was appreciated. Not a great experience, though I've had nothing but great times at Billy Hardwick's place in the past. The bowling shoes were comfy...which is something that doesn't happen often. Lots of lanes and a decent price. While it is bowling alley food they offer lots of different options...and BEER! You don't have to stop bowling to wait for your food either. Give them your lane number and when it's ready it comes up on your board. Decent place to bowl but it's kinda tight if all the lanes are full. One business practice that I think I bad...if you join your party in the middle of the bowling session you will still be charged full price even though that they don't give you the full time. We're from the Midwest and really missed bowling, so we were happy to find this place. If you go before 6, it's only $6.50/person including shoes. We had 4 people and finished 1.5 games in that time. This is a cute little bowling alley, nothing fancy. My one recommendation would be to eat before or bring some snacks with you instead of getting food there. The food is what you would expect from bowling alley food, not great. But I waited at the counter for 10 minutes before the person behind there even acknowledged me. I don't mind waiting but I was so confused I thought they might be closed. The portions are small but overall it's inexpensive if you don't mind the inattentive service at the snack counter. On a hot Memphis day this is a great fun inexpensive way to kill a few hours and spend some quality time with friends or hell, hang out by yourself. There are no shortage of lanes (forty six!), and I kind of love, as a bad bowler, that the screen lamely shit-talks you if you make a bad throw. I live less than a mile from Main Event, and I still come all the way here to go bowling instead of going to Main Event. I love this place. read more

Our lane broke while we were there. We got a game in and then the lane kept eating our bowling balls and eventually just went black. We got a good bit of bowling in so we decided to just leave, but the employees were super accommodating and it was VERY appreciated. Specifically a young brunette guy. No idea what his name was but he was super great and very helpful. They were very concerned about the issues we had with our lanes and fixed them as quickly as possible. Billy Hardwick's is a pretty nice bowling alley. The Pros: The guys who run the register / shoe rentals are pretty nice guys. The lanes, bathrooms, and commen areas are always clean. It's a pretty cheap way to spend an evening. The Cons: The woman who runs the bar is a super slow bartender and getting a couple of beers can take you 10 minutes of waiting at the window. Also the juke box is typical bowling alley music. Lots of really bad county and pop songs. All in all I've never had a bad experience here. If you didn't have a birthday party here as a child, you really missed out - so make sure your child does! Staff is attentive, facility is usually pretty clean, and the snack bar!
