We understand bad food will sneak through here and there, and have always just tossed the food. In the past month, we have had an abnormal amount of food we have bought that has been expired. This week we purchased a family pack of burgers yesterday, set to expire 7/5 that lost its color and stunk up a storm(I understand that color is an additive but 2 days away from expiration, to have the smell this had is terrible) We attempted to submit a form online to run into system errors for a non-existant repapctcha). We called up county market, just to be told to bring it back even though we are up north. Incredibly disappointed in county market of late and would highly recommend avoiding them and using Target and Coborns like we will going forward. Bad food is a fact of grocery, bad customer experience is avoidable.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The store has some unique and worthwhile items on the store shelves - including 12 packs of Tab (which preceded Diet Coke) and frozen Gino's East pizzas from Chicago! The only room for improvement I know of would be a self service check-out, new grocery carts to replace the ones that are bent up and perhaps a little more care and tending to the lawns in the summer - unless you love clover.

Some of our favorites are -- * Angus roast beef - for cold and hot roast beef sandwiches -- far better than packaged deli meat from the other sections of other stores * best fried chicken we have had in the state of Wisconsin * my spouse is diabetic, so we go to the lower carb/calorie end of the deli salads --and our favorites are broccoli bacon salad, cowboy caviar (corn, green peppers, red peppers and some black beans in a light vinaigrette, They have an excellent selection of groceries and a very nice produce and in store bakery. Of the stores in Menomonie, we think their beef is of the highest quality. We really like them-- I have been trying to get them to do a local food fair and a ad spread to support it . Wisconsin has wonderful artisan cheese makers and several are very near Menomonie -- Eau Galle Cheese-- but the store doesn't carry them. Area apples and produce are incredible -- So to get my fifth star -- Marketplace needs to host a local food fair--in the store -- and show off and stock our wonderful local food producers -- I don't have a dog in this fight --- just want the local producers and store to bond -- i.e.just trying to get up the date -- but I hope they eventually marry.

If you are not familiar with Aldi, there are a few quirky things... - if you want a cart, it costs a quarter which you get back upon returning the cart. This is great in that there are not carts randomly sitting around the parking lot. - paper bags cost $.15 each so remember your own bags - they don't have everything like a large grocery store...but they tend to have the essentials. The Aldi store brand is great for canned goods, snacks, and crackers. - they have a constantly changing variety of "aldi finds" which range from a name brand product at a steep discount to seasonal housewares.
