Went here on a Sunday in April, and was not disappointed. I have been here before, the last time I think was take out. The previous time was years ago at the previous location. The menu offers quite a bit of selection as well as the Dim Sum menu. Bill's Peking House has always been the upper end of expense for Chinese Restaurants. I think that it is unfortunate, I would definitely eat here more, between my son and myself we ate almost $70 in food. Dim Sum adds up quickly, especially when things like pork and shrimp dumplings are $2.50 a piece! We had Tea and Water only. Service was quick, tea was good, ambiance is like every other Asian restaurants so nothing special there. Clean, and no sticky table!! Highly recommend! read more

We have ordered from Bills Peking House many times and as a rule they are always very good. THis past Sunday we ordered dinner and it was excellent!! However last night to celbrate my birthday we ordered and it was terrible. Maybe a new chief or menu change/ a glitch I dont know. Everyone commented the food tasted off and not as good as it usually is. I noticed I did not feel great last night after eating and woke up this morning feeling like I had a hang over (no we were not drinking alchohol last night). I have tried to call and I looked online to see if I could contact the restaurant directly before posting this review but I could not find a "contact us tab" so im posting this here. I will forgive BILLS for this experience as I have had many good experiences with them in the past but after last night and how I feel this morning I will not be ordering from them again. read more

Although we've been loyal customers for over 20 years, tonight's experience was a letdown. We ordered several savory dishes, but the Pad Thai dish #123 contained a black hair, which was a major turnoff. Since there's no direct feedback option, I hope the kitchen staff will be reminded to wear proper head coverage to prevent this from happening again. Aside from this complaint, your ginger beef tasted more of crunchy batter than beef. read more

very disappointed with entire meal from the poor service and cold food. been there before and expected better. best to avoid for a while

We had a family get together last nite - Sunday - at about 6ish and was disappointed at being seated at two tables next to each other...as the Matriarch I wanted to have all of the 4 generations all together to eat and take pics! Most peeps ordered off the menu of normal or boring dishes like chicken fried rice so was also disappointed no carts but the menu which did have pics was helpful! I never saw prices or the bill, so don't know how expensive food was but I def found what I ate to be very good and generous portions! And I brought home 3 large containers of leftovers! My fave dish was the salt and pepper squid and I was pleasantly surprised to have two of my adult grandkidlets be pleased eating the squid and didn't get upset when I told them it was squid!!! It's Deep South but son and family from Claresholm happy not to drive thru our city and far too far away for me to order for delivery read more

My husband , my brother and I stopped at the Bills Peking House in Shawnessy area for dim sum lunch . We really enjoy coming here and ordered several Favorite choices . We have been here previously for the delicious Peking duck wraps & it was fresh & tasty ! This time we chose shrimp Ha Gow , Turnip cakes , Fried Pork Dumplings, Sticky Rice bundles , Garlic Egg Plant dish , Shrimp & BQ Rice Crepes, Taro Root dumplings , mini dessert Sessme balls and enjoyed them with cups of hot tea . We enjoyed it all but had leftovers to take home . The service was excellent and the server ensured to refill our tea and check on us often . We love coming here ! read more

This was our go to before it moved farther south but the quality has declined. It's pricey but not great. Particularly the salt and pepper calamari - which my family used to love - is now fish stick chunks of rubber. Will not order that again! read more

Delivery, 45 min. Arrived hot. $5 delivery charge was not mentioned.. Any way onion cake was hard and almost inedible. Shrimp rolls were just noodles and 2 broken shrimp. Hot and sour soup was excellent. Honey and ginger beef, shanghai noodles, fried rice canton style also great. Huge portions. read more

Ordered take out. 3 hours later no food and when I called back I couldn't get through. Don't waste your time. Rude service if you go in person too and takes just as long. There are much better places to eat with better food. read more

After 3 days of backpacking my first hot meal of choice was dim sum and Bill's Peaking House delivered! The dim sum all came out super hot (not pushed around in carts) and everything tasted delicious. We had the turnip cake, shrimp wrapped in rice paper (sauce comes out on the side!), shu mai and shrimp har gow and left super full and satisfied. This restaurant isn't located in downtown Calgary but is worth the short trip for a good meal. read more

2018.02.13. before the valentine's day, my boyfriend took me to Bill's Peking House for dinner. It is a local Chinese restaurant and the most famous dish serves in this place such as egg foo yong & Peking duck. It was our first time having dinner at this restaurant. Environment: We arrived restaurant around 4:30 pm right after my work before the dinner time. The restaurant was just open. The restaurant was on the second floor of the building. It was empty inside. We grabbed a seat directly when we walked into the restaurant. Inside the restaurant, there are many tables. Most of them were a table for four people. The whole environment was very organized, nice and clean. Service: After we sat down, the server brought the food menu to our table and began to serve us drink. Our table server is a Chinese lady. She is very nice and friendly. Food: After looking at the menu, we decided what to order for the dinner. We had Peking Duck 3 courses and starter platters. The starter platters include Sesame shrimp toast, Dumplings and salt & pepper ribs. Peking Duck 3 courses, which includes Wraps, Soup & Choice of fried rice, chow mein, and bean sprouts. All the food came out with large portions. They were all well cooked and very tasty. Prices: The prices of food were OK. Comparing with other Chinese Restaurants, it's very cheap. In summary, we enjoyed our dinner at Bill's Peking House. Besides the dinner menu, this restaurant also offers Dim Sum for breakfast. I would like to try their dim sum too. Highly recommend people to try the food at Bill's Peking House. Great customer services, Great food, Great prices. read more

Will not return! This was out go to Chinese food restaurant when it was in Canyon Meadows and it was always great service and food, we were sad when it closed over COVID, but happy to see it reopen in Shawnessy, we decided to visit this weekend. I am sad to say that we were extremely disappointed with every area of service, or lack of service and the food taste and quality. Although we we seated quickly and received our beverages fairly soon after being seated but that is were the service ended. The food came one plate at a time and if you did not eat that plate it would be cold by the time the next one came. Once the food was delivered, that was the last time we saw a person!! During our meal I had to get up and go ask a server for some water and a refill of our drinks, the water came from the tap, luke warm, no ice. Once we finished eating, our food sat on the table for approximately 15 mins before I got up again to find take out containers for our food. Once the server came with the take out containers and the bill she did ask how everything was but when we reported it was not great and just ok, she said nothing and just went away with our dirty dishes. Shortly after being seated at our table a server was clearing a table near us, but for some reason stopped half way through clearing and went away but left the cart full of dirty dishes and food right in front of our table and it stayed there through our whole dinner- extremely unappetizing to say the least and horribly unprofessional in the hospitality industry. Once home my husband and I did not feel well and dealt with upset tummy's for the rest of the night. Such a disappointment, you need to do better or you will continue to loose customers, we always tell two friends. Maybe someone will contact me to try to make amends because no one in the restaurant was interested in saving our business. read more

Bill’s Peking House - duo fried rice- not the best and not too bad - Dim Sum Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Our family has eaten at Bill's several times. We love the duck. We love it so much we planned our new years eve dinner around it. I checked their holiday hours the weekend before and called the 2 days in advance to plan. I was told our order would need to be in before 4pm. So I called Bill's at 3:30 to place our order. I was told it was too late and they wouldn't accommodate us. When I shared about our plans and my previous conversation, their only response was ... " sorry" Quite disappointed in their lack of customer service. I'd have gladly preordered if asked. We BBQd steaks instead. May, or may not eat at Bill's again ... disappointed for sure. read more

Wow. As much as I hate to give a bad review but people need to know. We ordered online and chose pick up for a certain time. We actually showed up a few mins 10 after that time knowing it might be cold But this was not the case. It was another 45 mins wait. When we asked what was happening we were given no answers other than it would be soon. There was no explanation or apology. Never again Will we order from them. Really disappointed. read more

Some of the best Dim Sum in Calgary and I highly recommend going here if you have not tried it yet. A true gem in SW Calgary. Their ginger beef if amazing, where you can taste the ginger and everything else is spectacular. Everytime we have gone, it's never disappointed us. read more

How... HOW did I not head down here sooner? For real. When Yelpers say there's a Calgary establishment and I need to drive halfway across town to get to it, I need to get my ass in my car and go. Bill's. Where has your ginger beef been all my life? What's that? Right in your kitchen, served on your tables, mouths and mouths before me having devoured it's gingery and crunchy goodness while I went without even though I knew better... the reviews told me better. I am a ginger beef fanatic. I love the stuff, always have ever since I was a wee tot and old enough for my mother to feed me Western Chinese food. There were 3 things I would eat. Chicken balls, chicken fried rice and ginger beef. Except if I had had Bill's, the rest would've been spoiled for me after that! And now... this will be the case. It's not just the ginger beef here that gets my 5 stars though. It's that it's just a consistently solid experience. Just like everyone said, Bill himself was there to greet us at the door when we walked up the stairs. We snagged the last table for 2, the rest of the restaurant was full. And we ordered way too much food for two people. The meal consisted of: Ginger beef Shrimp sizzling rice lemon chicken egg rolls All of which you need to get. The sizzling rice was fun! I've never had it before. But it was kind of like pouring a thick sweet and sour soup over top of rice that crackles and sizzles as the liquid hits it. Besides the ginger beef, that was my favourite part. No doot aboot it, this girl's coming back for more! read more

Oh Bills! One of my favorite restaurants in this fine city. Perhaps its all the special occasion dinners that were flawlessly executed,or perhaps the super awesome and very consistent service. The food here is some of the best western chinese in Calgary for certain, and thats no joke! I hold Bills dear to my heart. and Bill himself is a classy host and knows how to run his restaurant like a well oiled machine. He goes out of his way to please customers and seems greatly respected by his employees. Notable dishes at bills... -Ginger Beef (one of Calgary's best IMHO) -Pork Dumplings (My second favorite dumpling EVER!) -Lemon Chicken (my Pa's favorite) -Mongolian beef (exotic flavour in chinese style) -cantonese chow mein( yummy egg noodles with sauce and little treasures like shrimp, bbq pork, chicken and veggies) Another thing worth mentioning is the way that veggies are treated at Bills. The cooks take great care in making sure that the veg is cooked the right way. Never overcooked. Always fresh and crunchy and delicious! At other chinese places I have noticed that sometimes the technique and quality of produce can be quite inconsistent but bills is bang on every time! I have to say if you want bills at its best don't bother getting take out or delivery. like any chinese food, it is best eaten right from the kitchen, fresh and hot. I highly recommend bills to anyone! Come and be marveled by the service of bills finest waiter! Spock himself! Check it out! read more

Bill’s Peking House - Dim Sum Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Good Chinese food, the only real complaint I have about Bill's is their prices are a little higher then other chinese restaurants. I guess you get what you pay for. I usually order the peking style porkchops, fried rice, beef & green onion hotpot, and salt & pepper seafood. Also by checking the CHR website like I usually do when dining out I found they've had more then a couple of health violations. read more

Allllrighty then! Tonight, I had my second experience here and I was completely satisfied and my poor take out experience was practically erased; hence the edited review. I did order the duck again (3 course version no less) and its even better when dining in. But, just so you know, take out duck is just as delicious and probably the best duck I've had in Calgary - scout's honor! My wife ordered this pork dish which I can't remember the name of because she said it in Mandarin, but it was basically braised pork belly in caramelized onions... I think. Too strong for me, but my wife enjoyed it so thats all that counts really lol :P We brought our baby here and being a Thursday night, it wasn't that busy. I know I won't be dining here on Friday, Saturday or Sundays because I know they're really busy those nights and not the best time to bring a baby because its too noisy. But nonetheless, the staff were very accommodating and even held baby a little while so we could enjoy our meal and they could enjoy hold the baby! :D This place is really a hidden gem. The name, "Bill's Peking House" doesn't really say, "hey! I'm an authentic Chinese restaurant", but thank goodness for Yelp and other reviews because I know I'd be reluctant to try this place if I didn't see my fellow Elites give this place 5 stars let alone undoubtedly great reviews. You must eat their duck, the experience with the wraps, onions and cucumbers is calming. I have yet to try more than 2 dishes on their menu, so I'll definitely be coming back for that... in good time, all in good time. I lived in Calgary more than half my life and I can't believe I only recently discovered this place even after living in Lake Bonavista and Shawnessy for several years - crazy daisy! Peace read more

Last night I ordered take out from Bill's Peking House. I ordered the Peking dinner for 2. Now I missed the part where the $35.- turned into $45.- I did read that delivery was free on orders of $35.- or more. Of course by the time the food was delivered - 1h30 I was starving and two beers deep. The delivery person was apologetic as the kitchen was slammed. The food was very good. I'll definitely consider spending my money at this establishment in the future. I'm eating leftovers as I write this review. After I complete this sentence though, I'll be perusing the fine print and inquiring about the final cost of this meal. read more

Bill's Peking House is located in the Lake Bonavista neighbourhood in a small strip plaza. I came on a Thursday night planning on getting some dim sum, having heard that it was good here. When I arrived, I requested the sim sum menu only to find out that dim sum was only offered Fri-Sun from 10-3. However, the manager/waiter in charge talked to the chef and let me know that about half of the dim sum menu could still be made. With about 30 items on the dim sum menu in total, this was fine by me. For a group of four people, we ordered 8 items from the dim sum menu plus a beef and green bean dish. This ended up being the perfect amount for four people and came to $80 before tip. Highlights included the pork and vegetable dumplings which came in a hand wrapped thick breading, the beef and green beans with black bean sauce and the bbq pork buns. I look forward to coming back on the weekend to try the full menu. read more

Went to Bills for Dimsum over the weekend. Friends and I loved it. The Shrimp Crepe, Siu Mai, Chinese Donut were super tasty!

So sad the food quality has deteriorated. Cold food served, couldn't eat the ginger beef as it was hard from over cooking and the lemon chicken was all batter again over cooked and hard. We have been going there for over 10 years but something has changed in their new location. Will never go back unfortunately!! read more

I can't rave enough about this place. It is a hole in the wall above a bunch of shops, but OMG it is incredible! The eggrolls are a must, they are so crispy and the spices will give you foodgasm. All the dishes were so fresh and delicious that we were in heaven the entire meal. The sweet and sour pineapple chicken balls have always been my favourite, these had large chunks of pure white meat.
