THE BIG SHIFT IS SHIFTY! BEWARE!
My former life/business coach is a Big Shift disciple. I see the greed-driven mindset of Bill Baren, founder of the Big Shift, spreading like a cancer in the coaching industry and giving it a very bad image. My former life coach put so much pressure on me to use a whole approach for my business that felt slick, high pressure, unethical, unpleasant, fake, and completely unlike me. I dreaded every session with her and felt like I'd have to change my basic personality and enter a milieu I hate, just to be successful. I wonder how many other beginning life coaches are being brainwashed in the same way.
I hired my life/business coach to teach me how to be a better life coach, and to help me stay on track with my writing & finish my book. She promised me the moon in the first two sessions. Once she had my money, she dismissed the book project, saying, "Books are a good marketing tool, but we'll worry about that later." She said this about teaching me coaching techniques, "Oh you'll absorb those from me as we go along." These things she said, were COMPLETELY different from what she'd said in the first two sessions. And then she started teaching me the Big Shift methods for overcoming people's objections to paying thousands of dollars for life coaching. If I wanted to sell Amway, I'd sell Amway. My coach said I was resistant to charging people thousands for a handful of one-hour sessions (without being experienced), because I was "resisting abundance" and did "not feel worthy." Luckily, I was taking a college course for a certificate in Life Skills Coaching, and could discuss my concerns with my teacher. She told me I wasn't resisting abundance, I was resisting being unethical. Thank god for that validation, because my Shift-trained (brainwashed?) life coach was making me feel like it was all my fault her coaching felt so wrong to me.
I now realize, finally on a deep level, after months of not having contact with my former coach (I fired her), that I can be completely myself and focus on exactly the work I love, and make more money than she'll ever make, without ever having to be unethical like her, or act like a high pressure used car salesman, or stress about the money side at all. The Big Shift preaches about the law of attraction without understanding one of the most important aspects of it. Their actions are the exact opposite of what they preach. Make sure you always write a detailed contract and get your coach to sign it. My coach flat out lied about our original agreement so she could have an excuse not to give me a partial refund.
These days, I'm focusing on my vision of helping people, and the money is beginning to flow into my life in unimaginable ways. Opportunities are opening up all over the place. read more
