I've been working with Melissa for close to two years now, and I'm in it for the long haul. When I reached out to Herst Wellness, I was in what I'd call a "transitional period" in my life - although my circumstances had not changed, I'd found myself ready for and very much in need of personal and spiritual growth. Working with Chad has had such a positive impact on my life I cannot do it enough justice in writing, it is something you have to experience for yourself, but I will try my best! I came to Chad having never had any experience with therapy/ coaching before. I came to Chad because I was dissatisfied in my career. I was advancing, but I felt increasingly empty and less interested in the work. When I found my way to Chad, I had spent the last 1.5 years building a freelance career that supported the lifestyle I wanted, but had left me feeling less fulfilled in my work than I wanted. I had a sense of the type of work I really wanted to be doing, but felt stuck in how to explore the many directions that could go. I found Chad through a friend who highly recommended him. I started working with him soon after leaving my job to take time off, intending to gain perspective on my career, relationship, and the choice of where to live. Even with the luxury of time, I kept falling into similar thought patterns that I was used to, which made me feel perpetually stuck between the same reoccurring dilemmas. By working with Chad, I started to understand my own desires and needs, which turn out to be fundamental to all humans, but led to conflicting personal choices. I found Herst Wellness during a time in my life in which I was feeling stuck in an extreme rut. I was extremely unhappy at work and, in general, felt pretty numb to a lot of emotion. A year ago I hopped on to Yelp looking to find somebody I might be able to talk to about the stresses and anxieties of my life. I came across Chad and began to read reviews and decided to give him along with some professional counselors a call. Chad offered a free consultation and had awesome reviews, being that i was a yelp employee at the time, i highly valued these. So I decided it was worth taking a risk to try something new. I came to Chad during a time of my life that I felt very stuck, and was searching for some sort of meaning or inspiration in my life. I wasn't depressed but I would say I felt like I wasn't satisfied. It was affecting my outlook and I needed a different approach besides just working out or waiting for it to pass. At first I was skeptical of Chad and the practice of a life coach. In some ways it felt hokey to me, but I was finding that when I worked him I gained tools rather than answers. The tools I could take with me and allowed me to make real change in my life on my own. My experience has always been me searching for answers, but more and more I began to realize I had the answers but lacked the tools to uncover them. I told Chad I would agree to see him for six months, but truthfully I never felt I would spend more than maybe two with him. I told him I wanted to discontinue our meetings because I felt like I was ready to face the challenges of maturing and growing during these years on my own. The tools I had learned over the last 12 months have made me a stronger person and man. Writing this review is difficult because I don't know how to articulate strongly enough the magnificent and lasting positive impact Chad has had on my life. There is not a day that goes by that I don't mentally reference something we discussed, or use one of the countless skills he taught me. The mindfulness leadership program has made me a better leader, friend, daughter, spouse; Chad has given me the space and strength to be vulnerable and connect with people on a deeper and more meaningful level. And when you take a step back from life and assess what is really important...its that! People, connections and the quality of our relationships. Upon meeting him, I immediately felt at ease and able to speak freely without judgment. I came away from every session with a reading assignment, homework and meditation to do. I mention this specifically to call out the fact that you get out of it what you put into it. Roll up your sleeves, do the work and you will be the better for it. Chad is REAL and kind...but will not tell you what you want to hear. His sessions are challenging, but you will walk away energized with a sense of accomplishment and looking forward to learning more. He is a savant of his craft, and exists purely to open your eyes and educate you on how to conquer barriers you didn't even know existed. I decided to work with Chad because I was struggling with stress and being very overwhelmed with work and other aspects of my life. He's helped me through a lot of personal difficulties over the past six months that I've been working with him and I've been able to regain some form of balance in my life as a result of his coaching. The work I do with him has been life changing for me. I've had many "aha" moments where I've learned something about myself that I never knew before or dealing with emotions that I had suppressed for many years and learning how to deal with them rather than pushing them aside. I've continued to evolve and get better with every session I've had with him and I'm looking forward to working with him for long term.
