I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Camping World. What was supposed to be a repair…read moreturned into months of frustration, poor communication, and additional problems with our camper. Our camper sat on their lot for over two months, much of that time without being worked on because of a misdiagnosis after they ordered a new set of motors and failure to properly fix the issue the first time. We were told the repairs would take approximately 13 days, yet we continued making payments on a camper we couldn't even use. When we finally came to pick it up because we were told it's ready to go we discovered new issues that were not there before: the slide-out was visibly misaligned, seals were missing around the slide-out which will probably result in water damage in tough areas and the heater door that was listed on the invoice was not even installed. To make matters worse, there was additional damage to the exterior of our camper that appears to have been caused while it was in their care. After speaking with multiple other customers, it seems we are not the only ones who have experienced excessive delays and poor service. It is incredibly disappointing that a company of this size would allow repairs to drag on for months and return a camper in worse condition than it arrived. Camping World did offer a small concession of $260 on a $4,000 bill & to fix the damage they caused but how can I trust more damage won't occur when we take it back in? $260 does not make up for the inconvenience, lost camping time, ongoing payments, and lack of quality workmanship. We will be taking our future repairs elsewhere.

It's fun to look around and imagine the possibilities. They have their own leather shop in the back and they will do custom orders. I asked that take one of their passport holder designs and add a "flap and snap" feature to keep it all together better. That was done, mailed, and in my hands within a couple weeks.

There's a now shuttered restaurant where my Sister had her rehearsal dinner and I sometimes passed Ames Surplus, which as it turns out has been folded into the 2-building complex that is called Jax Outdoor gear. The military surplus part of this store is not much more than a couple short aisles. Past that, Jax has loads of outdoor gear, fishing and hunting inventory, clothing, footwear, and even a corner for Boy and Girl scout supplies. It's all very high quality merchandise and a good value. I came in looking for some Carhartt pants, which they don't currently stock. I left very impressed and with a cool and nicely priced little Gerber knife. I found store staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I'll be back in Ames in a few months (or so), and I'm be sure to stop in again. I'm sure there will be new stuff to admire or goods that I missed during the last visit. And there's no need to drive all the way to Des Moines.

That's the worst. Not here! The employees at this store know what they are talking about. They have hiked, skied, snowboarded, backpacked, camped, kayaked , canoed, you name it. Not only have they done it all, they are excited to help you find the right kind of gear to help you do it all. The store is very well stocked with everything you could need to explore your world. They have all the major brands as well as numerous local brands, as well. Plus, they have speakers and events to increase that sense of community. This has now officially become my go to spot for when I need any kind of outdoor gear.
