Recently been on an upgrade kick. Upgraded my entire suspension for my Stumpjumper. Doug figures out all that needed to be ordered, appropriate sized and adapters and setup. If you're serious about Cycling and MTB, this is the place to go. I've been going to Bike Junkie for quite sometime now for repairs, bikes, and parts. I'd say 4plus years. Doug and Linda are excellent proprietors. They are honest and really friendly to their customers. They are more concerned about giving you the right bike than just selling you a bike. You can have yourself fitted for a bike which is great if you take your cycling seriously. I suggest it even if you're new because that will give you so much more enjoyment from cycling. I see people with the wrong size bike all the time and it's terrible to see them struggle. Doug is a pro mechanic. Everything I've brought him that was not working, was working when I got it back and sometimes even better than when it was new. For example I had a Cannondale MTB that I bought from another shop who also sells mowers and crap. The bike was good, but the way they put it together was retarded. Eventually I had to get most of my drive train replaced and adjusted so I brought it to Doug. It now runs better than new. I subsequently got into road biking. The level of service I got from them was top notch. I was measured and the bike was built for my particular arm length, torso, leg length, reach,etc. etc. my Cannondale Road bike was born. Handles amazing. I also bought custom after market wheels for it because the original Cannondale provided were a bit weak for my weight and height. Those were perfection too. Most recently I got back into mountain biking and bought a Specialized Stumpjumper from them. Other bike shops were not serious in letting me try their bikes since they never pumped the shocks for my weight so the bike's geometry was never correct to spec for me. I told Doug I was looking for a mountain bike and even though they didn't have the ones I was looking for, he said I'm ordering a Stumpjumper that you might like, come in and try it out in a few days. Some days came around and the bike was tuned for me. Even though the measurements were approximate, that bike was feeling great! After a couple of minor tweaks, it was perfect. If you want to deal with a customer first bike shop, this is the place. If you want a bottom line first bike shop, well there's a ton of them out there. read more

Ok so here's the thing- it may not look like much from the outside, a little town place on Broadway in Bethpage. I get the feeling they have been there for a very long time. So I have this light weight wheel chair and the brake is not working. I check lots of places to find a fix and finally check a bicycle store aka this place. It looks like a quick fix. Ok so a good hour later they were still working on it. They under charged me for their efforts but did manage to fix one side and find that the other side needs a part. Clearly they are not getting big profit for their efforts here. There is caring to do it as they understand and know the need. So for me they now have a loyal customer. They had a dog that was visiting when I came in but later he was not there. The parking is iffy as its got a small parking area off street on the south side of the building. Otherwise street parking may be available. Need a Fix- check it out. read more

I was looking to get back into mountain biking and saw the good reviews. I had already been to a few other bike shops but I have to say Doug was awesome! He was super friendly and very helpful! He was respectful of my budget! I test rode a few bikes and went back to make my final decision. Doug pulled a few other bikes down and I tried those bikes but ended up with a beautiful Cannondale bike! Sometimes they even talk you out of higher priced items because you do not need them or tell you when you can find cheaper prices online. 2) Talent: Doug is a master mechanic and I trust his repairs and builds and knowledge. 3) Friendliness: You could not meet finer people on Long Island. Doug and Linda owns the store, and they run it with no other employees. Doug does the mechanics in the basement while Linda runs the rest of the shop. If you buy a bike from them, they will give you a discount on everything else you buy in the future, even on things they have to order. With this discount, their prices are very competitive if not better than some of the internet retailers. Do expect a few minuets of wait time when you get there, but when your turn comes you will get a very personalized service and lots of good advices. Being a frequently injured runner I was looking for a new way to keep up my athleticism and burn off excess energy while staying healthy. Biking seemed to be the best fit for me. Having a boss that has long been into cycling I knew he was the person to talk with and after some mild debates on whether to buy new or used, he eventually convinced me (and also provided me some OT to help pay for the bike) to go visit Doug and Linda at Bike Junkie. He fairly warned me that my first trip there would be an 'experience' and that waiting for help would almost be guaranteed, especially at the time of year I went in, but that ultimately it would be worth it. I made my trip down there knowing I wanted a road bike and how much I wanted to spend and Doug went right to work. He went through my fit and then started looking at bikes that would be right for me. Luckily for me he had an appropriately sized Cannondale CAAD9 from the previous model year in stock and was able to get me onto it for a fit check and riding within the week. It wasn't about them selling me a bike ASAP, it was about getting me a bike that was right for my comfort and my budget. I was able to purchase most of the required items for road biking right there the day I picked up the 'mistress'. Linda handles the miscellaneous end of things and for most products you will receive a nice discount. For new purchases you also receive some freebies like patch kits and tire levers. While also offering extremely competitive pricing, not only on bike purchases, but on replacement parts, upgrades (which they will try to match to lowest prices listed online, whether you ask them too or not), the real value is in the after purchase service. You get a year of free service checks from the date of your bike purchase. You only need to pay for replacement parts should any issues be found. The other aspect that I only learned about recently was Doug's willingness to help adjust your fit as you find more comfort with your ride. Part of their "you bought the bike here" policy is that if you want to adjust your position, you can come in and get it adjusted...for free. I took the liberty of lowering my handle bars on my own and found that I needed to extend my reach a bit. I went in, and Doug went to work, mounting me on the trainer and looking things over. He then swapped out my existing stem for a longer (and upgraded) stem all at no charge. THIS is why their shop thrives. The shop relies on repeat business and word-of-mouth. As they offer so much in the way of customer satisfaction, I try to do all of my miscellaneous shopping here. Bottles, tubes, new tires, upgrades...I stop in here. I drop their name to my friends who express interest in taking up riding. I try to get those I know who ride to look at them instead of one of the "big shops". It's about the experience and having people who are avid riders owning/working on bikes truly enhances it. As long as I still live in the area my next bike will definitely be purchased here. Some things to note: -The shop isn't huge but that doesn't mean they are any less capable. -Late March/Early April thru the end of June is the busy time. Anytime you visit the shop during those months you will likely wait for help. I don't say this to drive you away, but simply to provide you realistic expectations. Remember, a busy shop means an EXCELLENT shop. Once it's your turn, it's all about you. Treat it like a time to hangout. - Support them like I try to. I've got a few other shops that are closer to both my work and home and I still prefer going down to them. -While I do suggest that you support them, the reality is they don't carry a good collection of cycling attire. I have to be upfront and admit I did NOT buy a bike from them. I found the exact bike I thought I wanted (Cannondale Quick 5) but they didn't have one in stock and was willing to order it. They were VERY helpful and quite frankly not in any rush to 'close the deal'. Ultimately I found a awesome deal on a leftover Marin bike in a different color I liked better and a seat that would better fit my fat @$$ elsewhere. A coworker of mine told me about this place, so I decided to give them a call. One of the owners, Doug, spoke to me for about 15 minutes trying to find out as much information as possible in order to get me on the best bike possible for my budget. When most places seem to want to hurry you off the phone, Doug had no problem staying on the line with me, and told me that he had a great bike for me. I went in the next day or so, and I actually got to watch him build it for me. When you get there, don't let the looks fool you. While it's not the newest store on the block, there is definitely a sense of homeyness to it, which you find less and less these days. This is probably why the prices are a little better than others. When he was done building, he sized me up again and got everything positioned on the bike perfectly for me. I took it for a ride, but it needed some adjustments. I repeated this about 2 more times until everything was perfect. I've been riding my whole life, mountain bikes mainly, but seeing as how this was my first road bike, he showed me the proper way to ride, as well as how to maintain the bike properly. I loved the bike, and the sales approach was so relaxed. I never felt pressured to make a decision. I had been shopping around at a few other places, but this just felt right, so I decided to buy it. I got a great deal and was very pleased with the whole buying process. Buying here also gets you discounts on many things, and there's free maintenance for the first year, as well as free lifetime fittings, should you decide to change the seat height. Just for reference I live about 20 miles away and have about 3 bikes shops within in a 4 mile radius and another 2 within 10 but I will still drive the distance because Bike Junkie is worth it. Doug and Linda know their stuff. Zero pressure with more knowledge than all of the shops in my area combined. My bikes are always setup perfectly and they will never replace anything that doesn't need it. This is a quality shop with quality staff. Been going to The Junkie for about four years now. First time I went there I drove past it by accident. It's a small, non-assuming shop. Glad I found it and can honestly say this is the best experience(s) I've had at any bike shop. Linda and Doug split duties. She's handling more of the floor business (sales) and he's downstairs building, fixing, adjusting... They definitely compliment each other. The best way to describe Junkie would be to call it a pro shop. They have a good selection of things serious riders want. It's a bonus too that Linda and Doug ride road and trail. They're both very knowledgeable based upon their own experiences. They won't sell you something you don't need and I've picked up much useful information from both of them. It's an added bonus to run into many of the people I know from riding there. Generally speaking, they can match internet. When you consider not having to wait, the ability to try stuff on, and no shipping fees, it's better than anything online. If you want something they don't stock, they can normally get it quickly. Having stuff fixed or adjusted is usually quick too. Don't expect fast turnaround during busy season but they want to put you back on your bike. Certainly worth the trip. Support your LBS. read more
