Quiptu provided us great bicycles for $50/day including a bicycle lock. John picked up our bicycles at the time that we said we would meet him at one of the Monon Bicycle Trail parking lots. John said we could be flexible with our time but asked us to give him a 20-30minute notice.. They also rent out camping equipment, paddleboards, kayaks. This park is dedicated to the mountain bike riders of central Indiana. Here, the riders have right…read moreof way on the 127 acres of park trails. Seriously, if you are a hiker or walker, please find some place else. The park is on the south side of 96th, immediately east (about 50 yards) of Hazel Dell Parkway. (Hint: It is much easier to find if you are approaching from the west so that you don't have to turn across traffic so close to a stop light.) Inside the park, there is plenty of parking, some picnic tables, and a small shelter. From what I saw, the trails are narrow and have some serious drop-offs along the way. There are ponds and the river along the trail as well. Please note that if the trails are wet, the folks who oversee the park want to avoid damage to the trails from ruts that harden and make the trail lose its accessibility. So ride when the trails are dry. Pretty simple rule to comply with. I am encouraged by the information on the Indy Parks website that there are plans for a skill and challenge feature for developing the skills of the riders in a controlled environment before confronting those challenges on a trail. One of two areas in Metro Indy specifically designed for mountain bikers, Town Run Trail Park is…read more127 acres of beginner and intermediate level of trails offering an approximate total of seven miles worth of trails. The first thing worth pointing out, though it has been said in other reviews, is that this trail system is truly devoted to bikers. While hikers and walkers are allowed here, the bikers have the right of way and the trail itself is truly developed with bikers in mind. I've done my share of wheeling, I'm a wheelchair user, on difficult trails but having visited again this afternoon I was again reminded that even the easiest spots here are truly not designed to be accessible. Even if you have off-road wheelchair tires, there are lots of twists, turns, inclines, places to fall, and places where you could easily get stuck. While there's a decent chance you'll run into someone on this trail, I think the vast majority of wheelchair users should steer clear of Town Run Trail Park. Town Run does offer the possibility of other activities including fishing, kayaking/canoeing, and observing of nature. Because it truly is more of a natural trail, nature is much more likely to be here. The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association is involved with the trail and assists with upkeep and installation. The beginner features include a bridge and subsequent single track, dirt rollers, and a rock garden. The advanced features include North Shore Ladder, shoots, bridges, table top jumps, and dirt jumps. If you can't jump, then you're going to have a hard time doing the entire trail. There is parking nearby and the area has been kept fairly natural even around it. This is a great area that's really right around Indy, Fishers, and Carmel but this actually falls within Indy Parks. I enjoy coming here to just hang out and observe, though I definitely don't venture too far into the park because there's simply too high of a risk of injury, getting stuck, or having a fall. This is especially true considering my last amputation. However, for its intended use it's quite the beautiful park and for mountain bikers I'll definitely give it a thumbs up. It's also, in my opinion, one of Indy's better maintained parks.

Favorite new discovery (new to me discovery, that is): We walked out of Landlocked and I looked…read moreacross the street to discover this trail. I am not sure how many times I have been right in this exact spot but never realized this trail is located here. What a peaceful and fun discovery! We spent Mother's Day morning walking along the trail listening to the sound of the birds and appreciating the peacefulness. The trail appears to go on for a couple miles and it's separated enough from cars that you really can enjoy quiet surroundings. It also helps that it conveniently starts right at a coffee shop so you can pick up a treat to take along with you for the trail. We passed a handful of bikers and walkers but mostly it was fairly quiet during our visit. I may prefer this trail to the Monon trail given how few people were on it. Looking forward to our next visit already!

I picked it up in Greenfield by the new Depot Park. There is where you will find the art portion of the trail. There are a few murals, a sculpture, a decorated box car, a bunch of trees dedicated to people or organizations, and some benches to sit on and take a load off. The section of the trail spans about 5.6 miles and you will find exercise equipment, restrooms, and emergency phones along its path. It is open from dusk to dawn and some sections of the trail are better illuminated than others. The trail has a decent amount of shade to protect you from the sun. I really liked this trail. I was out there on a nice day (weekday) and I had the trail pretty much to myself. Which was surprising because of how nice a day it was and how awesome the trail is. This is one of the trails three segments. All three segments together total about 10 miles. There are plans to connect the trail with the Pleasant Run Trail, which would make it part of a much larger, 150-mile cross-state trail system. That is going to be awesome and I can't wait.

My granddaughters enjoyed the opportunity to see fire trucks parked outside the station, fairly close by. There appears to be some walking trails and bridges, but these kids have worn me out to much for a walk. Avoid the temptation to get ice cream at Mrs Curl next store, unless you believe in lining the pockets of a child molester and the family that supports him.

The Franciscan Trail is one of Central Indiana's newest trails having opened in April 2022 and the…read morefirst trail inside the Beech Grove city limits. Fully paved, the 2.2 mile trail has end points of S. 13th Avenue and S. Emerson Avenue/Hornet Avenue. There's free parking available at Sarah Bolton Park and Don Challis Park. If it's not obvious, the Franciscan Trail is a partnership between the city of Beech Grove and Franciscan Health. Franciscan Health is a longtime presence in the Beech Grove area. While St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove is no more, Franciscan continues to have outpatient offices, IT offices, and home health offices in Beech Grove. As someone who is both a wheelchair user and an active trail user, the Franciscan Trail seemed like a great way for me to start off my 2023 Yelp reviews. The trail is 12' wide and considered wheelchair accessible. However, do note that there are some gentle inclines in places and those who don't handle inclines well may want to have a companion along. For those wheelchair users who are able to handle inclines and the usual trail terrain, the Franciscan Trail is an absolute delight. The trail winds along Lick Creek and Beech Creek and is quite scenic. I hesitate to use the word "urban" to describe the trail since Beech Grove is a smaller city, but it does go through the more urban parts of Beech Grove. A 1.1-mile second phase of the trail is already fully funded and expected to begin construction in 2024. It will pick up where the existing trail ends on Emerson Avenue. Because the trail is at times creek side, there is the risk of modest flooding during rainy periods. That said, the trail seems well designed and well cared for by the community. A trail has been a need in this area for quite some time and it's exciting to see it happen. Biking and walking are allowed on the trail. Wheelchairs are also encouraged. The usual trail rules apply. As Christina B. noted, this is not a looped trail and walkers should plan accordingly.

The paved trail is 2.2 miles long and traverses between Sarah Bolton park and just past Don Challis park. It isn't a loop so be prepared to walk 2.2 miles back if you walk the full trail. We parked at Sarah Bolton park and walked just over 1/2 mile of the trail to check it out. The trailhead at the park features a map and the trail rules. The trail is freshly paved and boasts that it is pet friendly and handicap accessible. There are pet waste stations located every so often along the trail. Parts of the trail were a little hilly so I don't know just how accessible it would be but would probably vary by person. We didn't see them on this trip but I read that two officers patrol the trail on electric bicycles for safety. Even though it was in the city, it was super peaceful. We quickly entered into a woodsy area full of wildlife like birds and bunnies. The trail also runs along Lick Creek. We were there the morning after a thunderstorm so there was some flooding on parts of the trail, but it looked like some sort of drainage system was in the works. I'm looking forward to coming back to walk the full trail soon.

I found myself with some time to kill and stumbled across this park. This is a small pocket park…read morelocated behind LA Fitness. being that it is behind LA Fitness, it shares it huge parking lot, so their are more than ample spots to park. The park is relatively small and is purely a nature park. You will find a pond and a nature trail that runs along Little Buck Creek. There are also some benches, some having a more scenic view than others. A few are along the creek and one overlooks the pond, and another has a nice view of the parking lot. Talk about the short end of the stick. There are no restrooms, playground equipment or shelters here. There was a bunch of trash on the ground in the front of the park. I visited the park after a snow. It was nice because I could see all of the animal trails. The trails are not very long and either loop or end in a dead end. The trails are pretty well defined, at least during my visit. It may be a little different with spring blooms. The park is not very far off of busy Southport Road, but it still finds a way to provide a level of peace and tranquility. This is an interesting park that does not have much to offer outside of nature. I still found this a nice place to walk around and kill some time.

There was this very tall person with a mask and a hat behind me, once the trail ended I turned around and they also turned around and started to walk very quickly. They seemed to have different intentions if I had gone beyond the path... please don't go to parks by yourself. please be cautious of your surroundings. I'm not sure what would have happened if i wasnt walking with my boyfriend. this happened a couple of years ago but it still crosses my mind. I wonder if this has only happened to me or if someone else has experienced this.

Thanks to fellow Yelper Nicole S., the current Photographer of the Year, for her discovery of the…read moreNora Corners Pocket Park, a recent development of the Nora Alliance and an effort to beautify an area that had fallen into more than a little bit of chaos and was a bit of a blight along the mostly wonderful Monon Trail. This little corner always felt a wee bit unsafe despite its close proximity to fairly extensive Nora shopping options. The arrival of Aldi helped. The presence of BMO Harris helps. The arrival of Total Wine & More nearby also helps as it increases the area's traffic. This really always had great potential, however, relatively isolated parking was a frequent target for smash-and-grabs and as a wheelchair user I've always found the area a bit inconvenient to access. The Nora Corners Pocket Park has helped and should continue to help improve all of these situations. The Nora Alliance started beautifying this area with an improvement of the Monon's 86th Street Trailhead, a well-known landmark that has always been a bit worrisome (as evidenced by the recent death by motor vehicle accident of one of the city's well known bicyclists almost directly at the trailhead). The trail itself here is fine. It's paved. It's wide enough. It's sort of a connector between Marion County and the start of the Hamilton County section of the trail (that is, I must say, vastly superior to Marion County's less well-kept section). This sort of pocket park idea is a vision by the Nora area to create more beautiful yet functional spaces along the Monon. They are being supported in this vision by Ball State University's Master of Urban Design program and the Nora Corners Pocket Park is a great start. This park is relatively simple. It has a couple of wooden benches for gathering, raised bed gardens, and a more convenient path from the parking lot to the Monon Trail. There's a checkers board very nicely constructed from a tree stump. If you know me, you know I'm a double amputee. So, hey, I like anything that says stumps are beautiful and valuable. Ya know? Area geocachers will also identify that the old telephone booth remains adjacent to the pocket park and along the trail. There's a geocache that involves the phone booth and the phone booth itself continues to an interesting cultural icon for this area. Personally? I think it's the Ann Dancing of Nora. You can access the parking lot via steps from Aldi. From the parking lot, you can easily access the park. Obviously, if you're a wheelchair user the steps are probably not a good idea unless you're much more skilled than I am in a wheelchair. So, access still isn't perfect here but it's improving. I do know this pocket park is getting utilized. When I was finally able to visit, people were enjoying the space and the benches were utilized. I'd imagine this will be more true come spring and summer. I look forward to seeing what the Nora Alliance brings along for future projects to beautify this area. For now, the Nora Corners Pocket Park is a wonderful additional and great start. With a little more improved access, I'll probably bump this up to a 5-star but for now I'll stick with a four-star.
