DISCLAIMER - This is from a makeup trial in 2020 and wedding in 2021. It took me time to get the courage to write this review, because Crystal seems like such a sweet person. However, I don't want anyone else to have an experience similar to mine. First off, I think her makeup skills are amazing and loved her makeup work. She took into consideration my photographer's editing style and how the makeup would show up in the photos. She's also a bubbly person that was very easy to talk to. Makeup Trial in 2020: Makeup turned out great in the photos. It took me a bit to get comfortable with how it looked in person, because I wasn't used to wearing much makeup, but she talked me through everything and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. The makeup still looked great at the end of the night though too - and this is after doing an ocean-side photoshoot. The cons: - She ran 5-10 minutes behind schedule and the trial ended up taking longer than expected due to struggles with my hair; so I had to rush to make it to my engagement shoot. However, I did appreciate how Crystal still took the time to listen and try to correct things. - My hair - I wanted a half up, half down w/ curls hairstyle. In a call beforehand, I had explained to her how my hair has a difficult time keeping curls and that I usually can only get a hold with a straightener. I can't remember if she used a curling wand or a curling iron, but the curls were already falling flat during the trial. By the time of the photo shoot, my hair was lightly wavy. By the end, it got pretty flat. She did offer a discounted retrial to try another technique to see if my hair would hold better. I didn't end up doing a retrial since I had to reschedule my wedding. (Rescheduled) Wedding Day in 2021: I had booked Crystal for makeup for my wedding for myself and my mom. The days beforehand, she mentioned how she was getting vaccinated. Skip forward to the morning of my wedding. I wake up a little over 2 hours before our appointment time, and I notice a text from Crystal that was sent less than 6 hours before our appointment. She says she's so sorry, she's been having chills and nausea and that she's unsure if she can cover and she's reached out to her immediate artists. I don't hear from her again until 1.5 hours before our appointment, she confirms that none of her artists have reached back out to her yet. I'm not sure, but it seems that she became symptomatic because of the vaccination. At that time, it was known that people get side effects from vaccinations, so I thought it was unprofessional to schedule a vaccination right before a booking. It also did not help that Crystal was unable to find a replacement. It was such a stressful morning... In the end, luckily my friend found someone else available to do my makeup and my mom went to a salon. read more

I had secretly stalked her Instagram for about a year before I was even engaged. This review is for CRYSTAL WEI, my fabulous make-up artist for the night! I normally don't let anybody touch my face. I do my own makeup-- not because I do it the best, but because I am really picky with things such as even eyeliner wings, making sure my eyebrows look natural and not too thick/thin, etc. But Crystal addressed every single one of my concerns, and talked me through every step of the way. She was very patient, friendly, and informative. She knows her products well, as she was able to answer all my questions about why one product is preferred over another. Crystal is also a very clean artist, and I had no concerns regarding sanitation of brushes or products. Crystal had asked if she could take a "before" and "after" picture of me, and she made sure that the pictures were taken under the same conditions (same lighting, same camera, etc.). I was pleased by this attention to detail, as I'm very meticulous myself, and would want my make-up artist to be the same. Overall, Crystal did an amazing job with my makeup (it lasted ALL night!), she was pleasant company, and she was very professional. Before I start writing, I just want to say JUST DO IT! CRYSTAL ALL THE WAY. Many people say a wedding is just one day of your life and it'll pass by in a blink of an eye, and although that is so true, what will last forever is how you felt on that day as a bride and the pictures that will be forever written in time. I just married the love of my life last May 2018, and yes, I'm just now writing my long pushed back review lol. Life as a newlywed is amazing but super busy! And, I'm also not one to write reviews, ever (I'm not just saying that like the hundreds of reviews that begin with that line and makes you wonder if it's really authentic). But after my wedding experience there are a couple of people that without, my wedding day wouldn't have been as beautiful as it was. Crystal at Bijoux Beauty nailed it. I was extremely lucky and stumbled upon her on Instagram while researching hundreds of makeup artists on Yelp, Instagram, recommendations from friends, coworkers, etc. With four of my closest friends getting married as well, I learned a lot from them and their perspectives. I went into it thinking, I want an affordable makeup artist since it's so expensive nowadays, only to realize that you can't have both cheap and good. And if one thing should matter, it should be you! Not the draping on the ceiling or the silverware on the table. My friends suggested a few well known artists, but I wanted to take a chance to find a true gem without breaking the bank. After looking through her profile, I really liked her work and found some that were exactly what I was looking for - classy, soft, and natural. Now, the hard part was how it would look on me. Makeup on me is very difficult, subtle additions or strokes can make drastic changes, plus, how would a stranger know how to work my face?! So I went in for a bridal trial, and to be honest I left a bit disappointed and not surprised. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but in a way it sort of was. I loved her technique and quality in both style and products used, and my brows and skin came out flawless (no dried out lines or clumps). It was perfect, but somehow, my look was still off. It took me, and a couple of other people, a while to figure out that it was the eyes. Sometimes what you see on other people might not look good on you, so you have to figure out what works specifically for you, even if it's surprising. And so I told Crystal what I wanted differently for the wedding (after all, that's what a trial is for right?) and risked not doing a second bridal trial because my gut really loved her style and trusted that she would nail it on the wedding day. And so she did, 6 months later. My skin was even more flawless and glowing on the wedding day, my brows were soft and on point (NO ONE draws more beautiful brows than Crystal), my lips were lush and beautifully drawn with the most perfect mixture of nude lip colors, and most importantly were the eyes. She took out eyeliner on me, applied more dramatic lashes (which I still have and use because it is unbelievably great quality), soft and subtle eyeshadow, and overall perfection. Even my best friend or myself couldn't recreate what she did. And the best part about it? It lasted for 17 HOURS. And did not feel heavy at all, it was a breeze. I had a long traditional Asian wedding day with a tea ceremony, church ceremony, and dinner reception; which called for 7am makeup, multiple outfit changes, lots of running, and traveling from one point to another. At the end of the night when my hubby and I finally arrived at our hotel at midnight, I was shocked that my makeup held up through all of it: the tears, the constant tissue wipes, the sweat, my face landing on many people's outfits, the hugs, the dancing, the drinks, and all of the crazy. All without one single touch up! It was amazing. As for my hair, let's just say Crystal nailed my beachy half up half down do, without a trial. She's just that great. It's been 9 months since my wedding and looking back, honestly some things don't matter anymore, and I even forgot about some things. But I still feel as happy and beautiful now as I did then. When the pictures and film came in, it was the dream that I've dreamt of as a little girl. I looked the way I wanted to look, but better than I imagined thanks to Crystal, and now timeless. I can't help but compare my makeup to many at other weddings (with the well known makeup artists), either as a guest or bridesmaid, and they just won't do anymore. So if I could do it all over again, I would choose Crystal a million times. So if you are considering, JUST DO IT. And make sure it's Crystal. You won't regret it.
