Had a TERRIBLE experience with this company. My husband and I are still out of pocket $1,000 despite pursuing legal avenues through the dept of Consumer Affairs. We were advised to take a legal claim but live overseas so cannot.
The company has no problem taking a significant deposit, and seeking to overcharge you at every turn (packing, shipping, you name it), messing you around, inconveniencing you and insulting you in the process.
This company will scam you out of your deposit after 2 weeks for no reason aside from that its their business policy. There is nothing that can be done so they keep it. Be WARY!
Purchased a range of light fittings over the course of 3 visits. We should have been more cautious as on every occasion that we visited the store there were angry customers yelling at the store assistants. Now we know how this business operates (scamming) we realised why!
After trying to overcharge us (by triple) for shipping- we had 3 comparative quotes and all came to be at least $2,000 cheaper than this company advised- we decided the transaction was too risky to proceed with. We basically sensed that things were not quite right. We advised the company that we wished to cancel our order and have the deposit returned to us- a perfectly ordinary and reasonable request. Our request was denied by the company and we received personally insulting emails- suggesting we were not acting in 'good faith' and had never intended to purchase the goods! In all our years my husband and I have never experienced such disrespect and foul language at such a basic request!!! We were appalled. I tried a last time to reason with the business and get our deposit back- but again received an insulting and demeaning response.
I tried to go through mediation to get the deposit back. That started about 6 months ago. I received a final letter from the company saying that their 'store policy' is that they retain deposits after 2 weeks irrespective of the situation- can you believe the audacity?!
Its sad that in this day and age businesses can just take your money, not provide you with any service, and in fact cause 6 months of futile trouble for no reason other than the fact that you were the unfortunate person that walked through their door. This is nothing more than theft. Stealing $1,000 from a foreign couple who have no legal recourse to get it back. Shameful.
I cannot urge you more strongly not to do business at Bijan Royale. There are PLENTY of good antique stores in NYC worthy of your business, who do not engage in theft behind the veil of 'store policy', and who will not try and scam you. read more
