So glad I read that whole Hudson Yards email! I would've missed this inaugural(?) experience!…read moreHopefully High Tea here will be a repeat. The Great British Tea Party was lovely. Held on the same floor as Peak, but on the opposite side in an event room, the 180 view of NY/the Hudson/NJ was breathtaking. After the magnificent view, the room came in a close second, with long beautifully done up tables in British colors and accents. There were red, white and "blue" (pretty purple was close enough) flowers galore, a bright red photo opp phone booth, rows of tea cups and saucers in mismatched floral patterns, and British flags strung across the ceiling to set the tone. The detailed efforts of the organizers made us feel as though magically transported across the pond. Upon arrival we were treated to sparkling tea. I was hoping for an alcoholic libation, but this had bubbles, so I pretended. Once seated, and introductions to neighbors were complete, we started in on the bites. Mini sweet and savory scones with fruit preserves and butter were already on the table. I tried both versions and they were tasty. Then out came the three tiered racks with lots of precious little goodies. Of course there were cucumber sandwiches and salmon on toast. Staples! My favorites were the mini lobster rolls and a square pastry shell filled with a truffled cream sauce that had caviar on top. For dessert my two favorites were the tapioca pudding with guava sauce and coconut, and the pistachio profiterole. I'm guessing on ingredients here. We didn't have a menu, so I'm not sure what was in most things, but I'll say everything was great.
Only 2 complaints. The tea came out late, when it should've come out first. Then only half my cup was filled with hot water. I had to ask for refills to the top on the two cups I drank. Another complaint was that the bread was stale on the hors d'oeuvres. I know it's hard to keep bread fresh when pre-prepping and serving 100 people, but that's something to consider finding a solution for. The toppings were all fresh though. The service was wonderful. Very friendly & accommodating.
While enjoying our meal, there was a discussion on London, the coronation, a royal super fan, some songs from Broadway shows in the West End and in New York, and a trivia game. The winners of the game received British gifts from pencils to gift baskets.
After the festivities, we were able to go out to the edge. The day went from rainy, to sunny and beautiful just in time for our visit to The Edge, the 100th floor outdoor viewing deck. I'm afraid of heights but I loved it! Even sat on the clear glass triangle and looked down for a few seconds.
For the price of visiting The Edge, we received the tea practically for free, or I guess vice versa.
It was a fabulous event! I look forward to more just like it.
