Midday and wifey needed a pick me up, so after a quick Yelp search I discovered The Flying Saucer and set our course. Located right in the heart of downtown South Haven, this shop is a bit unassuming from the outside, but cozy and charming inside. We were fortunate to find a parking spot right in front, so she hopped out and went in to order her drink. We needed coffee for the house, but I wasn't sure we'd find it here, so when she came back out with a bag of ground beans, I had to head in to see what was going on myself. Now I stopped here because I saw the pour over menu and as it turns out, Flying Saucer serves Uncommon Coffee from Saugatuck, and as a result, they offer a wide range of their beans for sale in smaller packages, which were perfect for the needs at home! The espresso tastes like someone emptied a bunch of used Keurig pods and cigarettes into pool water and boiled it for seven hours. Burnt, dirty and aggressively bitter, without any of the flavor that makes strong coffee actually good. And that's what makes it so frustrating. This is exactly the kind of independent bakery/cafe where I WANT to buy a great latte instead of going to Biggby or another chain. There's a huge opportunity here to be the legit coffee spot in town, and the rest of the place already deserves it. Please, for the love of God, fix the espresso.
