We had a wonderful experience at Big Y, thanks to Hal and his support staff. Our patio furniture needed to be recovered and so we set out to buy material and find an upholsterer at a reasonable price. The day that we arrived at Big Y to purchase a material that we had seen there, the owner was present and everyone else was busy, and so he stepped in and made disclosures to us that we had not even considered. His input was very valuable and he did in a way that his sense of humor added to the entire experience and he gave us a total price to reupholster the 12 cushions , including the material that was competitve and reasonable so we changed our minds and let Big Y have the entire job. They do excellent work and are very helpful. The upholsterer does a fantastic job, but everything is very expensive.

The finished product was very good but the service was not. I was given one quote the day I came in. Later that day another person called me to say the quote was incorrect and gave me another - much higher - quote to which I agreed because I had already purchased the fabric. When I went to pick up the upholstered item the total was even higher than the latter quote. The receipt was very difficult to understand and when I asked about the discrepancy, the salespeople implied that I was trying to cause problems ti get a discount. It took nearly twenty minutes of heated discussion for the manager to look at the receipts again and admit she was wrong. Needless to say I would not come back. read more

MAY 2024! I searched and searched online for replacement cushions for my outdoor patio furniture. I was determined to get Sunbrella fabric - as I have been a fan of this long lasting material. Recently had two patio chair Sunbrella cushions redone... I had them made with zippers so I can just throw the covers in the wash. This was the first time I have used Big Y for making cushions...as I did not know they offered that service as well. ...Let me just say that the cushions turned out absolutely beautiful and are stunning...and I am thoroughly sold on any more cushion and pillow making needs being done at Big Y Yardage.... I came to the store with my mother. The store was recommended to her by a coworker. The fabric store my mother like had closed and she was thinking somewhere other than Joanne to buy fabric. This is a very unassuming place and if you're not looking for it you might miss it. Don't let this fool you once you find your way inside it is well worth the trip. My mother and I were blown away by the bolts and full of beautiful fabrics it's literally wall-to-wall fantastic they also have pillow forms and foam for upholstery. It's my understanding they also make custom drapes, and anybody who so I can tell you that making drapes isn't a huge problem to do at home because most people don't have tables big enough for it. The prices were reasonable and the staff was very friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Check out the pictures that I submitted I saw that only one was up on Yelp so I kind of went crazy taking pictures but once you see how many amazing fabrics there are you will want to make your way to the store too. read more

I'm posting a review without ever entering the store because when I tried to call about their hours and ask some questions about their services, I couldn't get through and if they don't even answer their phone then what sort of service can you expect.... I called at 11 am because one of the sites I checked said they opened at 10 and another one said 11. Got a message saying they were closed. Called again at about 2, same message and then again at 4.... I live across the street and I knew there were people in the store.... what is that all about.... I'm pretty disgusted and will look for another place to take my business.... I'm happy to say that I got a prompt response from the business saying that they had telephone problems. I appreciate that they responded so am thinking of taking my business to them to see what happens. read more

In the past I spent a fortune at Calico Corners, I even considered it this time but didn't get great help or nor did they have a great selection. Hesitant because of the reviews I decided to stop in here. GLAD I DID!! Not only do they have an amazing selection, we were warmly helped by Leslie. She provided perfect service. When to the store today and bought some beautiful upholstery fabric to cover our dated Queen Anne chairs. My husband & I brought a pillow from a sofa at home to make a color match and we found the perfect fabric. This fabric was on the rack and today was marked down 25%!! Great selection of fabrics and very helpful. However, a couple days after having giving them a hefty check to cover the fabric for a couch, 2 love seats and 3 ottomans/footstools, they called to tell me there would be a higher fee for the upholsterer to pick up the pieces. Also, that they had "forgotten" to charge me for some of the foam. Then I was told they would handle the additional pick up fees. Once, the upholsterer came and loaded up the pieces he asked for more money at which time I told him-Sal Luna of Creative Custom Upholstery-to talk to Big Y. Once the pieces were delivered the cushions on the love seats looked "wonky". I called Big Y. They said they would make good. Then they said it was because new foam was not used and they would NOT COVER THAT and it would be more economical to get it from the upholsterer. I did, but he then charged me much more than what Big Y was going to originally, probably to make up for wanting more money for delivery and not receiving it from Big Y Yardage. read more

My grandmother paid $1700 two months ago to have a chaise reupholstered and after calling them half a dozen times and them making many promises we still don't have the work done. They said they would come out and take care of everything and still nothing. They said they would call today at 10 to confirm pick up and nothing. Any reputable company would have called way before two months. Doesn't matter how busy you are. Addition to previous review------- Grandma says this is untrue and regardless today is 12/5/16 and she called you on Friday 12/2 and was told "today is your lucky day, they just called and it's ready!" She was told they would deliver it on Monday and she sat at home all day waiting and no one ever came. I used to be a furniture buyer and have had furniture made all over the country and the world and have NEVER had to wait this long for any custom order. read more

Eh can't comment on the products or prices because I can never get into this business because they're always closed....hard to shop at a retail store with bankers hours I will do my business elsewhere I made several attempts to shop at this business but they're always closed....I will try to make a habit of checking the hours before I go to other businesses prior to me leaving because this business closes at 5:30 on Saturday I showed up at 5:21 and they were closed lights out..... not open Sundays and they close at 6:00 PM during the week unfortunately for me I can't get over there because I have a job....plenty of other fabric stores with better hours. read more

After years of doing busy there with Maureen- who is retiring. I will no longer continue to do business with this store. Sheri, who is replacing Maureen, is going to kill this store's business if she continues to refuse business to customers because they shop around for pricing on fabric and fabrication. I have done a lot and recommended this store to a lot of friends and family, it saddens me to have what was a good relationship because of the un-customer friendly attitude of the manager. Simple story of what occurred - I am looking to replace the curtains in my formal living room as it was recently remodeled. I had one company come to my home and provide an estimate - one I felt was based more on the impression she made of my home, and not of the actual labor time and material required to do the job. So I do with every major home project, started to secure additional quotations (usually a minimum of 3 are done). I went to Big Y with the idea of having them produce the curtains. I borrowed some their sample books and provided measurements to them to produce a manufacture estimate. I made some initial sample selections and asked them to price them for me. I was quoted at that time $58.00/sq yard for my favorite choice. A bit pricey - but I loved the fabric. I then asked how much would it cost if I supplied the fabric. I was told there would be a 10% surcharge if I supplied my own fabric. Ok - fine. I went home to review the samples in the room. I went home. This was the perfect fabric - the best of them all, but I simply could not justify the cost of over $2k for 4 curtain panels. So, a whim, looked up the fabric online to price compare - perhaps I could find it cheaper and just have Big Y do the manufacturing of the curtains - as they previously made it sound like they would and was not an issue. I did find the fabric - for $17.00/sq yard. This now made this fabric affordable and the whole project feasible. However, when I went back to Big Y to return the sample books and what I also thought would be to place the order for the work to make the curtains, I was accused of never intending to purchase the fabric through Big Y and only using their store as a sample library and never intending to purhcase the fabric from them. This was NOT the case at all. I had other samples selected were within budget that would have been purchased from Big Y - material and manufacturing, but when I was able to secure the ideal material at a $31.00/sq yard savings why would I not got with that and still have Big Y sew the drapes? Now they will get none of that business or any going forward. Good job Sheri - that's the way to grow and maintain the business. A business that is over 47 years running. read more

This place recently relocated down the street to 502 N Tustin St. next to Islands Restaurant. I like the new location, it is a clean newer building. I work in a Coldwell Banker office in Irvine and many of the realtors been coming here for years for their drapery and upholstery fabric needs. I took their advice and went to visit this place for some reupholstery needs for our dining room chairs. I was really happy with the quality of their work. If you want a place that is reasonably priced and does really good quality work, this is the place to go. read more
