Rio Fabric in Downtown Los Angeles' Garment District. Bring Cash Money for the Best Deals...
Rick S.

Rio Fabric is a good source for curtain rods and fabric (some pre-cut with grommets ready to hang). What I found interesting about shopping in the downtown garment district of LA is that prices are designed to be negotiable. However, there is a bottom line and there is a fact that retailers need to cover their overhead of their cost of goods, rent and employee wages in addition to making a profit. We went to a different store, was quoted a "best price" which was okay and as we attempted to leave, that "best price" got lower and lower and lower where you never really know what the true "best price" is, so seeds of doubt on whether you overpaid or not are always planted in that environment. Here, we shopped, received pricing, knew competitive peer pricing, had a budget, had a certain level of expectations and valuation, and made an offer, which was accepted. We also coupled it with a bulk purchase to motivate the seller to provide a better discount. Most vendors give cash payment discounts, so come with cash, 'tho most do accept credit cards too and charge sales tax. Parking can be difficult but there's paid lots in the area, and the area during the daytime is crowded and feels safe. Overall a pleasant experience.

Robert was very helpful and informative when we were hunting down our silver sequin fabric. He offered a great price of $6 the yard for a great quality product. We explained to him that we were trying to make a backdrop with that fabric in mind and he showed us what the perfect amount would be. HE WAS VERY NICE AND GAVE US GOOD TIPS ON HOW TO BUY FABRIC AND USE IT WISELY. He even gave us discount among discount each time we sounded a little unsure about our purchase. WHICH WAS GREAT!! Overall great place and great and cheap fabrics to buy. Very good customer service.

Oh my goodness, this company Rio Fabric has been my life saver for my wedding. I have been searching everywhere for table overlays for round tables and farm table runners and I looked on Etsy online in LA, everywhere, it was either it was to pricey or the size was incorrect or they would have something for the runners and nothing for the round tables. I wanted a unique look and my wedding as I can describe it as lots of lighting romantic, with lace and a little rustic. My friend and I went I Rio Fabric to look at something she needed for my mom for the bridal shower. And by chance I found this beautiful fabric. Oh my it was the most prettiest overlay I seen. I know some people are like it's just fabric, but the quality of Rio Fabric is by far the BEST in Downtown LA. The owner Robert was not pushy at all like the other vendors you run into. He listened to what I wanted and knew exactly how to make my dreams come true with then linen. He had had my linens made for my round tables and my runners. They matched perfectly and most of all the quality of the material was great the sewing to every stitch. I have been so happy with this company I told my mom and friend to buy the rest of the stuff here for the bridal shower. I even ordered my napkins here too. He has an assortment or textures, colors and different high end material. Most of all the customer services is excellent. I recommend this company for all types of projects if it's for a wedding, birthing party events, large quince events, for material to make outfits, fashion anything. It is excellent. I give this the highest review.

What is the address for Rio Fabrics? I went today to the address on maps that shows 903 Wall Street and was being charged $24/ yard of reversible sequence fabric when other stores had it for $9-$10?

So not sure how fabric works. But I'm using the fabric as runners for a table. I have 10 tables. Each table is 60 inches long. So I would need 120 inches worth of fabric on each table.. so I'm guessing 30 yards of the red and white chevron fabric?

I will check the warehouse in the morning to see if we have any left, let me know how many yards you might need.

How much for a yard of the shimmering fabric?

Which fabric is it please share a picture?

Anyone know of a stitcher in Needham/Wellesley area who makes drapes?

Alright, Sewing Arts is my fabric store - my go-to, my happy place, my "I swear I'm only getting…read moreone thing" (lies!) spot. I could not be more thankful that this gem exists AND that it's conveniently close to my main work location. I've quilted on and off since 2008, but when I moved to LA in 2016, my sewing machine and fabric took very, very long naps. When my boss announced she was pregnant, I knew I wanted to make her a baby quilt. After hours of Googling fabrics, I walked into Sewing Arts thinking I knew exactly what I wanted. HA. Jokes on me. In fact, jokes on me every single time I walk in thinking I know what I want. Contrary to some of these other reviews, the ladies at Sewing Arts are some of the kindest, most patient humans I've ever met. Even when I'm standing there overwhelmed by *gestures broadly* literally everything, they're endlessly helpful. Sewing Arts was my introduction to Ruby Star Society, which has since become my absolute favorite modern fabric line. I swear they carry every bolt from every collection (until it sells out). The selection is remarkable! There's also a bountiful selection of patterns, notions, materials (quilting cottons, linen, rayon), cross point kits, etc. etc. And the best part? The community. On my very first visit, Kathleen asked if I knew about the local quilt guild. I didn't at the time but now the Los Angeles Modern Quilt Guild (LAMQG) is what I lovingly call "quilt club," and I look forward to every monthly meeting (held at Sewing Arts!). The guild nights even come with a lovely member discount on fabric... dangerous for my wallet but wonderful for my soul. The only downside for me has been their long-arming service, which I've tried twice with less-than-great results, especially for the price, so I won't be going for a third try. Also, masks are still required, which you'll see mentioned in many reviews but the owners stand firm on the policy and even provide free masks at the door. There are a plethora of classes also available here (garments, quilting, etc.) so whether you are a beginner sewist, an expert, or somewhere in between - there's likely a class for you! All that to say, Sewing Arts has truly given me both inspiration and community. Five stars forever!!!

The store itself had everything you could possibly be looking for, for a sewing project or anything related. Their selection of trims was incredible and they also had patches and other items, yarn as well. They also had many many rolls of different types of fabrics, and they also offer clothing modifications. The best part, in my opinion, was their shop dog, who was so incredibly friendly I spent more time petting him than I did browsing around the store. He was standing right outside of the store, so if you're wary of dogs , even though he's so friendly, it is good to note. The store is right on Lincoln Blvd and the parking situation might be difficult if the front areas of the store already have cars there. There is a small lot next to the store but it might be reserved for the restaurant next door. I parked in the residential area right next to the store, so I did not notice if the lot was specific to the restaurant only. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well. Was fun to just browse all of their items and it was nice to have a dog to pet!

The man working…read moreat the register, who may have been the owner, screamed at a woman and forced her to leave after overhearing her speaking about being Israeli with another person . His behavior was enraged, hostile, threatening.and very scary . The most horrifying part was when the woman asked him, "Are you kicking me out because I am Jewish and Israeli?" and he answered, "Yes, you are proving my point." That was not a misunderstanding. That was blatant antisemitism and discrimination. He was so aggressive that I genuinely feared he might physically attack her. I did not step in because the situation felt dangerous. What I witnessed was open antisemitic harassment against a Jewish Israeli woman. It was disgusting, frightening, and completely unacceptable. No one should ever be screamed at, humiliated, and thrown out of a business because they are of a certain race or religion. A couple minutes following this incident, the woman returned and politely asked to pick up her belongings which she left at the store probably due to her fear of being attacked . When the worker saw her - he became enraged and screamed at her to leave - refusing to give her - her staff. She said she will call the police and the man replied "i don't care - call whomever you want" She once again said she is calling the police and complaining about his business to the city and he finally gave her what she forgot when he kicked her out of the store . I am still shocked and shaking thinking about it, and I will never return. I hope this lady file a police report because this was clearly a hate crime and the store worker is also violating
