Great drive-in to take your family, for good barbecue and a fun experience (or to take yourself if you don't feel like cooking or getting out of your car). Really good barbecue and sides, with the nicest servers. Some of our faves are: the onion rings (so good), pulled chicken sandwiches (the bacon ranch and grilled cheese), and barbecue platters, where you get to choose your meats and sides. I finally got the chance to pop into this drive in a couple of weeks ago, after passing it and salivating at the thought of great smoked pork and some old fashioned coneys. The food is good; the pork is tender and moist and the coney sauce was Detroit style. But the price of each item was a bit high compared to how much you actually got on the sandwich. It was more bun than dog or hog or even coney sauce. The buns also tasted store bought and did not due the hog or dog justice. Good meat deserves a GREAT bun! Overall the staff (car hops) were exceedingly friendly and brought me back to the late 70s when I car hopped at A&W. Service was speedy. They just need to tweak a few things to go from good to great! read more

Awesome spot! Great food, cute roadside eating (multiple picnic tables or they'll deliver to your car) and fabulous staff. Everything you'd want from an up north summer spot. We had burger, the pulled pork/bacon/slaw (comes on Texas toast) and split home cut fries...and free pop refills...all were very good. read more

If you're from the area, you know you aren't going to get fast food that's not deep fried. This is our alternative 'go to' place for fast food that doesn't make you feel like garbage. The Mac & cz is so creamy & delicious. Love it! Add that as a side you your BBQ pulled pork, you're guaranteed to be full for the evening. This is a regular stop for us new locals. read more

Low quality food with high prices. Extra long wait time. Don't bother asking the staff for more than one thing at once, you'll for sure be missing something. I can't blame them though, all of the staff are very young and it's probably their first job. Nonetheless, bad service, bad food, bad prices. I can't say anything good about this place. read more

This drive-in has a good menu selection. Shake flavors didn't include cherry so I got vanilla which was good- nice bug straw with it - and you need it cuz it's thick. The grilled chicken cheese sandwich was great - grilled to perfection, nice and crispy. Fries were cut fresh and hot. Sliders were a fail. No toasting on the buns is really bad... beans taste like Campbell canned pork & beans. Did not like the cole slaw flavor. One side was missing from our platter. While I can't say anything bad about a Kogel hotdog, the bum was neither steamed nor toasted making it just and okay Kogel. We got ketchup on our dog but didn't order it that way. The place was busy, service was average. Always order To Go so you can take your leftovers home. read more

We were very disappointed to find the Covid19 guidelines were not being followed. When we asked why our outside server was not wearing a mask while leaning in out car taking our order the manager Sara said they are not requiring her staff to wear masks. We immediately left and will not be back! Shame on the management for taking risks we did not want to participate in! We immediately filed a complaint with the State AG' office. Great service been here several times since they opened food is always very good. Staff are all very young. That being said they are all very professional. Have seen them go out of there way to help people that aren't even buying anything. About the only place open after 3pm in the early part of the week. And the only place open all day on Mondays. It's nice someone has hours when you actually want to go eat out. I wish this place was a year around establishment. And the fried cabbage is amazing! read more

Big R's Hogs & Dogs occupies the drive-in on the corner of 115 and Maple Grove that was previously Dixie's Drive-In, just outside of downtown Farwell. My family has a cottage in the area and when my mom said that there was a new barbecue place nearby, I was a bit skeptical that I'd find good, low & slow, smoked bbq. But that's exactly what I found at Big R's. The only really bbq item on the regular menu is the pulled pork sandwich, cooked in the trailor-style smoker out back. The shoulder was great, had just the right amount of smokiness with a little pink smoke ring to prove is was cooked right. One complaint I do have is the sauce - it's the thick, sweet variety that us northerners have been fooled into thinking is good bbq sauce. I ordered my sandwich with sauce on the side and was glad I did - the meat is tender and juicy, rendering sauce totally unneccsary. Now I wouldn't mind a little eastern carolina vinegar sauce or a little spicy bbq sauce, but I can't deal with the thick, sweet stuff. As far as the rest of the menu, they have burgers and a few different kinds of dogs - beer brats, coney dogs, and slaw dogs. I got a beer brat, which appeared to just be a pre-cooked brat that they boiled for a few minutes. It could have used a couple minutes on the grill to at least give it some browning on the outside. The fries were standard frozen steak fries that I'm guessing came from something like Gordon Food Service. In fact, other than the pulled pork, I'm guessing everything came straight from GFS. But I'm not going to begrudge them for the rest of the menu - you shouldn't be going there for anything other than the pulled pork. They should offer it to be sold by the pound as I'm sure a lot of people would buy a few pounds to take back to their cottage to feed the crowd. Supposedly they are going to do specials on Friday and Saturday night like ribs and fish fries. I am going to try to make it back there this weekend to see if I can try some of these special items - as good as the pulled pork was, I'm anxious to try some ribs from Big R. read more

A recent find for us, even though it's close to where we live. This seasonal drive- in had been closed for a long time, then changed owners, had confusing/ unreliable hours, closed again, opened again...we didn't have high hopes for the place until we pulled in one recent weekend and saw...and smelled...the big smokers running outside. What used to be mostly an ice cream/ burger joint now also offers house smoked brisket, chicken and pork. My favorite is the barbecued pulled chicken sandwich, with slaw you can add or eat on the side. The other meats are also good. There's no indoor seating; there's carhop or takeout service, and a couple of sheltered picnic tables for eating outside. If you're driving on Old US 10 across the state, this is a good stop for a good meal. read more

We were disappointed by the pulled pork, which just didn't taste smoked or special in any way. I also had a sausage in a bun, and found the bun and sausage a bit dry. We truly enjoy the barbecue joints in Clare, to the east, and in Sears, to the west, and were hoping to find the same quality of food here. Not on the day we visited, unfortunately. One mitigating factor; this is an old-skool carhop place, so if you like getting carside service, you will enjoy stopping here. (There's a covered pavilion with picnic table if you'd rather eat outside.) And there is ice cream. read more

Last year we frequented this little drive-in often for ice-cream and the occasional chili cheese fries and we were quite pleased with the service and food. We stopped in there recently and ended up leaving after waiting 15 minutes for service.. The young ladies working did not acknowledge us even after entering the building.. Also, they only accept cash. Hopefully they do some costumer service training. read more

Just had the best coney dog EVER at Big "R"s Hogs and Dogs! I couldn't believe how good everything was! I had a coney dog and fries, my friend had pulled pork, fries and slaw. It was less than $10! Much cheaper than McDonalds! This is our new favorite place for great cheep food! read more
