This place reminds me of the old Kmart in a good way there is a variety of items from food, decor, home appliances, kids, toys, personal care items, pet care, and furniture that makes it a unique store! Sometimes items are cheaper here and other times you need to shop around but if you want to come to one place to you can find different items definitely Big Lots is the place to come ! read more

I love Big lots usually.. but this store has gone down hill the past year.. It is always in disarray, ever since they "remodeled" the floor. So messy and you can't find anything. The bathroom is out of order??? No bathroom for customers.. that is just bad business!! read more

BigLots has something for every room in the house from dishes, pots and pan, table linens and small kitchen appliances. They have furniture couches, kitchen dinettes, and bed sets most are very inexpensive. There's too much to mention. I was looking for a comforter, matching curtains, shower curtains and bath towels. I found what I was looking for by piecing it all together. I managed to purchased it all for less than $100. The store was clean most of it was organized it looked like they were stocking the shelves with their fall merchandise. The customer service was welcoming I was greeted as I walked in, as I was walking thru the store shopping I was asked if I needed any assistance. Messy, understaffed, empty shelves, lots of items on the floors. Probably the least organized Big Lots I've stepped into.

The store has been updated and is less messy. However they have two associates still working there who are very rude and management does not step in. 1 can barely run the register and takes it out on the customer and the other is just plain rude, like she is doing you a favor by being there. They have been there for many years, perhaps too many, if you are that miserable and treat customers horribly. read more

BIGEST LOTS OF CRAPPOLA..... except a few relative bargains....like: 1) Cleaning Crap: Spray bottoms of Lyesoll type products, the ones with the screw on top.... not like the regular stores which sell you the non-refillable insanely designed new rip-off bottles that are impossible to unscrew. You are screwed if you try to refill the sealed bottles...look closely.... Bargain hint, get a refillable bottle a fill it with the bulk more concentrated cleaning agent(s) that you like: a) Lyesoll type: get a bulk refill, or commercial sized bulk container with chemicals that usually start with alky-xxxx. These kill lots of things & since there is usually no bleach in it, you usually can add some to enhance the disinfectant effect....but yes, it will then discolor some stuff & you may need gloves. b) Bleach based: just dilute some regular bleach & pour it in. c) Tree huggers cleaner: just use some diluted bulk White Vinegar. d) Or just add the cleaner of your choice: e.g. Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap. 2) Crap tools & cheap crap that is good for home repairs. The stuff here makes the junk in Home despot look great....but if you are looking for the odd cheap screw driver or screws, or cheap paint brushes, or cheap tool gizmos for one time, or rare use, you will find some bargains here. Just do not expect it to last. It is cheap crap....but hey, if you only need to use for the odd DIY project around the house...why pay Home Despot prices? Do not buy anything that needs to be plugged in...it is usually cheap crap, may not be UL approved, & can be dangerous (e.g. a cheaper electric drill or sander). 3) Personal Hygiene & Some medical stuff: Sometimes they have good deals on discontinued deodorant, bandaids, cheap brushes, gloves, & such. 4) Cheapo plastic sandwich bags & such- they are thin & crappy, but they do the trick & are really cheap. Avoid zip locks, which are alway cheaper & better at Kostko or WallyWorld. 5) Gardening & Holiday Items: Sometimes you can find decent deals on cheap decorations or yard stuff (sometimes good deals on cheap gardening gloves). Things to avoid: 1) Refubished appliances (total crap)- Usually stuff that nobody else wants & breaks so often that they then wind up here! 2) Most foods (with rare exceptions)- Mostly unhealthy weird brand crap, mixed in with stuff that is ready to expire. Sometimes you luck out & find something like a great imported mineral water that somehow was discontinued. Watch out & really read the labels for the expiration date & where it was made (Avoid China like Ebola, since they use megatons of unregulated pesticides, & avoid pickles made in India). 3) Watches & other gizmos- the ultimate in super-crap or total garbage. 4) Clothes, towels, Kitchen supplies,etcs.- mostly cheap crap that will fall apart just by looking at it funny. AND ABOVE ALL forget the disgusting yucky "wines" unless you are looking for wine vinegar substitutes. ALL in ALL, out of all the crap in the store, you will find some crap that may be much cheaper that at a chain pharmacy or a supermarket store. BUT..... Prices have gone way up, compared to a few years back. It is about 1/2 drive from my house & I go for mainly cleaning supplies about twice a year. This store is also only a long long block away from two Asian grocery stores in Stowell Plaza. read more

If you need furniture don't order from them unless you can wait an entire 3 months they say 6 to 8 weeks but they really mean 3 months.

Went to the Santa Maria store but when I checked the price tags, there was none, not even posted. Who sells items without a price tag? Beware. First hour is available for seniors only. Doesn't state that anywhere on the website or Yelp hours. Went in solo at 9am to look for couches. Willing to spend $$, but got "kicked" out after 15 minutes because the first hour is reserved for seniors only. Well, maybe they need to communicate with corporate and update their store hours. Just wasted my time driving from another city to beat the crowds. read more

I've been to lots of BL's in my time in lots of different states and I must say, this is the dirtiest and most unkempt one I've ever seen.

I went in to buy curtains, bought the wrong size. I came back to exchange, not to return it.. I was tolled I was not able to ( I understand if I was return toilet paper items that people over bought). It would of been nice to see something in writing or your employees telling the guest about the new return, exchange policy. I'll just stick to online before shopping for this company read more

Horrible customer service. I went in to buy a couch and a bed and they were so rude. Super happy about the $1 down for the couch but the people were so rude. He barely talked to me. And was talking to his friend most of the time. He had no idea what he was doing he didn't explain anything !! If it wasn't for the price I would have never gone here. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I am here from the Bay Area and was looking for a small fan for work. It was 10 minutes before closing, as I was walking in one of the employees said 'We are closing in 5 minutes' when my coworker said its actually 8 minutes he corrected is by saying they need to be out BY 9 pm with the shop fully closed. Store is super cluttered, messy and unorganized as well. Bottom line they are super rude. read more

Big Lots in Santa Maria is a Terrible! Dirty, poorly stocked, isles blocked. Employees are equally unfriendly and just there. Big Lots in other cities are nice and employees can communicate. read more

They offer great deals on lots of things that you don't really need. The parking lot is a tad bit sketchy but they do have good prices on some things. I got a brand name food processor for $10, soap and shampoo are pretty cheap. Employees seem to be very busy. read more

I'm being generous cuz "''tis the season of mindless shopping", I'm basing my review on my experience which was an hour before closing a week before Xmas on a weekend, my cashier was top notch, and since I spent years working retail, I am apathetic towards those who still do. 97% of the items I was interested in possibly purchasing lacked price tags, shelf stickers, sales signs, or anything to indicate what they were expecting me to pay for these items. It got so ridiculously annoying to me, I purchased only two items rather than ten, spent ten bucks rather than fifty (?), and couldn't believe that a store could be so trashed before closing and not one employee on the sales floor doing what they call in retail "fronting and facing", which means straightening up the merchandise aisle by aisle so it will be ready for the next shift and shoppable for the clientele the next day. I think the cashier was the only employee in the building---she was the only person I saw that resembled an employee. Maybe their practices are different than what I experienced working in retail, maybe the day shift has to clean the store before they open, I wouldn't know, only speculating. If you're lucky to find a price tag on the merchandise, it appeared that there were good deals to be found, but how can you know if they're not marked and there isn't anyone around for you to ask until you get to the checkout? read more

I love this store! I always get the best deals here to take back home to San Diego! They have wine here for $3-5 dollars a bottle. Many of the wines are from smaller Central Coast Wineries and my husband and I have been very lucky. There have been very few that we had to use as "cooking wines". I also get tons of other stuff here too! read more

This place has really cleaned up their act! They used to be a real junky place with product just everywhere and you could hardly walk around to shop it. Now, it's much better and they have floor people asking if they can help you find anything. Nice! I love their garden department and they now have some nice home decor as well. We bought a shepherd hook and BBQ grill light for our backyard. We got a good deal on both items. I'll definitely be back here to shop. Keep up the good work Big Lots!!! read more
