I was surprised at how large this brewery is. I had their pistachio cream ale. It was ok but not as good as others I have had. The amber that I had was fine. I loved seeing that they had pizzas and snacks. For $9 I got a frozen pepperoni pizza and it was exactly what I wanted. Trivia night was going on when we were there and they seemed to have a decent crowd. Staff was friendly and made good suggestions. read more

Nice spot to hang out and enjoy the neighborhood and chat with locals. You'll see bicyclists, joggers and people walking their dogs or puppies. These healthy folks deserve this brewery. Although I do have to keep quiet about my Bears loyalty whilst here. I can't wear, let's say a Bears shirt or my Bears hat. Lol!! They have a very good beer selection and you'll notice that they rotate their line-up which means that sometimes, there won't be a sour beer that's available. But that's ok, they still have a lot to choose from. And I've never had a bad beer here. There's plenty of seating inside and two tables outside. They have pinball too. I guess my only complaint is I took home two crowlers and after a couple of weeks, one of the cans popped and leaked all over my dining room floor. I then put the second can and put that on my kitchen counter and that too popped (I'm such an idiot, I should have drank that second crowler), on its own and that was the second mess. I say all that to say - drink your crowlers as fast as you can. Although I had never experienced that before?? I missed out on two great beers (see pic). read more

I was at Big Head Brewing recently, it's kind of hidden off of State Street but we were passing by and thought we should stop by! They had 3 picnic tables outside (bonus during these covid times) and I assume when it gets colder they will bring out some heaters. The interior is interesting, there are several nooks where you can stay socially distanced depending on how busy they are. The decor is eclectic and kind of mismatched but that makes makes it charming. They have giant Jenga, darts and other things to keep you busy. The bathrooms are for one person and they have a sign with the "rules" posted outside. They provided sanitizing wipes for the toilet, faucet, etc. We only stayed for one beer, I tried the Firefly IPA and really liked it. They also sell pizza and chips (maybe other food too?) that you can order on an app. Good music was playing as well. I look forward to returning sometime to check out the other beers. read more

I always love to take groups here to experience the smaller and unique operation. They have a handful of beers and they're all pretty good. They have snacks and pizzas available but nothing else in the way of food. I always like the picnic tables and when it's nice, they have some right outside of the giant garage door that opens up to the space. They have a big projector screen and usually board games (though not now) to keep yourself entertained. They had a tropical NE IPA, a smash amber and a couple of other great choices on tap. $5/pint and they have canned crowlers available to go! Happy hour 4-6 W-F! Love a graduation party at a brewery!! I am not a big beer person but the blood orange ale at Big Head Brewing was my phenomenal. Super light and sweet with a little tang- perfect for a hot day with a 6 UV! The big open garage was perfect for a party with bags, hammershougen, and darts! I have a soft spot for smaller breweries that are a big tucked away. So tucked away that you need a some sort of very clear signage to find your way. For a smaller brewery, Big Head does cover a wide range of beers from cream ales to IPAs. I opted for a flight just to get my bearings. This is my second visit here and both times I had a very friendly experience. They have several picnic style tables set up inside and outside, along with hand sanitizer at each table (at least on the indoor tables). I felt very comfortable during my time here. Side note: last time I was here a bird attacked my me and tried to peck the mess out of my head. My guess it was because I was wearing a mask with cats on it. More logical guess would be that the bird was protecting a nest somewhere. You decide. read more

The beer: this is the only brewery I can think of that does not have an IPA on tap (or at least not when I visited) and, for me, that is a huge plus. I hate IPAs. They had two hefeweizens on tap, sour, pils, stout, a blonde, and a few others. They were all distinctive in their own right (a jelly bean hefeweizen anyone?). I really enjoyed it and a flight of all their beers on tap (7) was $10. You can bring dogs! Fun! Service was so-so. We ordered a flight and they filled people up after we ordered before working on our flight. The space is a run down old warehouse - no coll brewery ambience here. It's all picnic tables and open space with backyard games. They do have a large projector for games and you can buy frozen pizzas to eat. read more

Surprise, Surprise! Tosa has a brewery too. They have a good variety to choose from. I've actually driven by this place many times this summer and never actually knew there was a tasting room here, so after meeting the owner at the Milwaukee brewfest they invited me to stop in. It's a nice spacious area that has various areas ranging from. Two TV viewing areas with picnic tables and the back area where they have two pinball machines, bag toss game and a dartboard. The old fashioned ironing boards are used for mini tables and a good place to rest your glass. A couch back here would be a nice place to rest your... Back. The beers are usually $4 $1 less during happy hour. They are now open for the football games. On Sunday. It's a big step over drinking in my own garage with better choices and stuff to do. Few people know this about me, but I have a really big head. I mean physically, not like my ego or anything. I have never met anyone yet who has a bigger head than me. And I've measured! My brother used to call me "Big Head Bob" when I was younger. So, there's that... Naturally, seeing a "Big Head Brewing", I had to stop in. I'm glad I did. The space is awesome, with a big warehouse like area, lots of seating, a cute bar, and multiple games to play. Oh, and TVs showing the sporting event du jour. The beers were good. In some cases, very good. The selection is a bit limited, with maybe 6 or 7 on tap the night I was here. But the styles were varied and almost anyone can probably find something they'll like. Just don't expect to get a flight of 6 different IPAs or whatever. The staff was great - super friendly and willing to provide some tastes of beers to help you find just what you want to drink. I wasn't able to have a head size contest with the owner, but I'm hoping he can give me a run for my money in the future! read more

Nothing about this place is splashy or trendy, which seems to work well for it, as both times I've been (weeknight and weekend) it's been fairly busy. Inside are picnic tables, free pinball, giant jenga, darts, bags, a free popcorn machine with tons of salty toppings, tv's, boardgames and more. It's puppy friendly too. They have a wide variety of beers on tap, plus a cider (not brewed there), but nothing really struck me as a beer I'd order again. Everything is priced well though ($3-4 max), plus, if you do find a beer you like you can get a growler fill or 32oz crowler to go which is a plus. If you are in the area (like stopping at Kettle Range) this place is worth a stop, but I wouldn't go out of your way for Big Head. read more

I made a brief visit to Big Head Brewing today, 5/14/22. I visit craft breweries as a hobby (or an excuse to buy new tires more frequently). The weather was mild and sunny so they had their doors open with outdoor picnic tables. The space itself looks very informal and presents as a neighborhood watering hole with loyal patrons. They are located right off State Street and I was able to find parking easily at the time I arrived. A lot section of their space was taken up with what appeared to be a bridal shower. My server at the bar was very friendly and sported a sharp tyrolean German hat. I had a flight of four for $8, lower cost than most small breweries. I tied a blonde ale, lemon shandy, red ale & maibock. All were tasty. They did seem to have less selection on tap compared to other breweries, but quality was good. They had brewery stickers available at the bar for free & wifi was free with solid connection. Decor had some nice feel of neighborhood kitsch. read more

I really like Big Head. It's a great neighborhood brewery-gives me super laid back vibes as though I am in my parents garage or basement just enjoying a beer. They have lots of indoor/outdoor types of games at your disposal year round. The beer is good, the price point is on point, the people who work their are very pleasant and they offer free popcorn which is a huge win. I have to admit, when I heard last year that Big Head Brewing was going to be opening off State Street in 2013, I was stoked. I was looking forward to having a friendly, local brewery open that was relatively close to my house. A nice place that has good beer, and a friendly ambiance. Big Head Brewing has all that. They are nice. They are friendly. The space is open and inviting - come hang out with one friend, or several friends. Watch the game or just play some card games at the enormous picnic tables. Play some free pinball on the weird machine that dates back to the year I was born. Darts, beanbags (aka "Cornhole" - a name I have come to hate) and shuffleboard is also available. Enjoy some tasty beers. My favorite was the Hefe, but heck - try a flight of beers for $5.00 and find your own favorite. They also have two (I believe? Although I think that can change as well) revolving taps. Last time they also offered Woodchuck Cider. Delicious!! At $4.00 a pint, of stuff they brew on site, I find it reasonable. I am willing to pay more for the good stuff though. I really like this place and I will probably ask at some point if I can move in. This might just become my new 'Thursday meet up with pals' place. When I first visited this spot, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered. From the outside, seems a bit "hole-in-the-wall" vibe but it is very clean, open, and friendly staff. With picnic tables indoors and outdoors, there is plenty of seating for everyone. With rotating beer on tap and the option of ordering flights of beer, there is something for everyone to try! Raw and unrefined. I mean that in the worst way possible. Its like walking into your buds warehouse that accidentally brews beer and lets the public in and sells beer to them. The beer wasnt awful but the bathrooms were crazy. They need more windows to let in light. But it is in between train tracks and a junkyard. I went there cause of a Groupon. Probably won't go back. I made my first trip to Big Head this weekend - they've been around a little less than a year. FYI - they don't bottle and they aren't on tap at any bar so the only place to check them out is at the tasting room which is tucked away on 62nd and State. You can have some drinks there and take a growler to go if something really appeals to you. I'm not overly picky about beer (Miller Lite is fine with me for most things) but I can certainly appreciate a higher quality brew. I tried the Blonde & Red Light and liked both. I'd probably go back for the Red Light due to the lower alcohol content. That said, they generally try to have 6-7 beers on tap at any given time plus a cider (not brewed there). They're currently working on replenishing their IPA as well as a chocolate raspberry stout. The real draw here is the atmosphere - it reminds me just a little of Brenner Brewing but operated by your college buddy in his dad's warehouse. There's free bags and free pinball plus a dartboard, shuffleboard and free popcorn. Hungry? They'll make you a frozen pizza 'cause they got pizza ovens. A bunch of folks were bringing in crockpots as we were heading out, so they're party-friendly too. Free pinball. Beer. Popcorn. Good times. read more

A great underrated microbrewery, just east of the Tosa Village. Their tap list rotates seasonally, and they are dog-friendly. They serve popcorn, frozen pizzas and snacks. They rent out the back area for parties on occasion, and when they do, service tends to suffer a bit. Still, it's a good place to grab a beer with friendly service. read more

Love the casual atmosphere here. They have bags and a couple of other games in the back. There are long picnic tables by the bar making it a great spot for groups. They were actually willing to host my somewhat raucous running group (and our dogs!!) one evening, which gives them a lot of points in my book! In fact, I'm not sure I would've known about this place if it had not been selected as the location for one of our run meet ups. Extra bonus points for how easy it was to park even during Harley Fest. I had a strawberry ipa when I was there. It was tasty and great for the hot weather! We were here for a pop-up gallery so I'm not sure I have the most accurate representation of this place. There were plenty of tables and snacks. There was a shuffleboard game. They had live music and it was actually a good venue for that. Three people were working the bar which was great because it was hopping and yet the wait times were not that long. I have been to Big Head a few times now and can say I'm so happy it's in the neighborhood! They allow dogs throughout the entire place - so rain or shine bring your four-legged-friend and sip some suds with great company. They have several beers on tap, as well as Stella Cidre. I particularly enjoy a drink they serve called Snake Bite that is half cider and half of their blonde ale. They have a few snacks, including chips and beef sticks - also have free popcorn! They welcome carry-ins and I saw a couple people bringing in Toppers. They often host community events such as craft shows and live music. It' great! There are games such as table shuffleboard, bags, foosball, two pinball machines and hammerschlagen. Fun little neighborhood bar with plenty of parking and friendly bartenders. This is the corner brewery equivalent of a corner bar. It was laid back and not overdone, which I appreciate. I came on a rainy day and the garage door was open and the Brewer game was on a huge screen, initially... All of the seating is picnic tables. It has a warehouse feel but also sort of cozy. Sort of like drinking in a garage made up as a bar. Everyone was playing cards or board games and looked to be having a good time on a rainy day. The beer is pretty good and they had something for everyone. You can order food from a nearby italian restaurant and have it delivered to your table. My one grievance is they advertised "baseball and beer today" and even though there were several brewer clad fans, one guy asked for hockey and boom, every TV went to hockey. read more

Went here with friends this weekend and was really impressed. The quality of the beer is great- not to mention they've only been open since September. Loved the stout, amber and blonde ales. It's a no frills atmosphere, mismatched tables and chairs. Loved the games in the back (darts, shuffleboard, bags, pinball). I am really glad I gave these guys a second chance. I visited Big Head in the summer of 2013. I got a sampler and didn't enjoy the beers. Most of them had a strange smoky flavor and other off flavors. (Full disclosure: I am a Certified Beer Judge so I knew those styles of beer were not supposed to taste that way). I wasn't going to go back, but then a couple of my non-Yelp friends suggested a stop there. So I made a return to the brewery. Apparently they have a new head brewer as of late summer/early fall. The beer has changed dramatically. The IPA was one of the better ones I've had locally and I'm a big IPA fan. They also have a Spokesman Trippel and Bella Donna Dubbel named after the male and female road bike clubs in Wauwatosa. Bikes + beer = awesome. The space is cool with plenty of seating, shuffleboard, pinball, Jenga and bags. The brewing area is adjacent to the hang out area so you can tell how small their operation is. I have heard that a man comes in on Saturday nights to play the piano (not paid - just because he wants to). When businesses say they don't like Yelp because our users are unfair to them, I cringe. Most of that sentiment is misunderstanding of our community and how it operates. I didn't go back to Big Head because I didn't want to write a bad review. I'm glad I saved this one for when their business had developed into something better than it was. Breweries come and go and I'm glad this one is sticking around for a while longer. read more

Great place, kid friendly and every bar game known to man! I'm guessing they have dice behind the bar as that was the only option not out for use. Polka Piano Man came in and started playing the piano. Enjoyed samplers of 8 different beers that are hand crafted on site. I care about beer. Like REALLY care about it. I especially care about good pale ales, IPAs, porters, and stouts. That said, Big Head didn't really wow me on any level when it came to their beer. I really wanted to like this place because a) it's in my beloved Wisconsin, b) it's a tiny operation and I respect that, c) it's got a good "hanging out in someone's garage/yard" relaxed vibe, d) there's a cute old man playing polka on the piano on Saturdays, and e) if you're not from WI you can sit and watch the locals play Stump or Nails or whatever that crazy tree stump/nail game is called all night. But the beer just didn't do it for me. I will say this: if you're in Wauwatosa and you want a relaxed fun place to hang out, this is a decent joint to do so. It's cheap, it's fun, it's lively, etc. but just don't hang your hopes on the beer or service blowing your mind. read more

New nano-brewery opened up across the street from me. WhooHoo! Cute little place with very friendly people manning the taps. It's reminiscent of a warehouse/home garage...and I have my gang over to drink it up. They make 5 different brews...Hefe, Smash, Amber, Brown Ale, and an IPA...all $4. My favorite was the Smash which was more like an amber than their actual amber. The amber was pretty hoppy as well as the brown ale and IPA (of course). Overall, nice staff and they have several bar games (pinball/shuffleboard/cornhole/darts/etc) to entertain yourself. I only liked one of their brews but I'll be back especially since it's walking distance from my place! read more

Let's start with the good things: The server was extremely friendly and helpful. The space is very comfortable with games as mentioned. Now the reason I was unhappy: The beer is not good. In addition to smoked/peat flavor that all of the beers seemed to have they also had an almost astringent after taste. I tried the Pale Ale, Smash, Brown Ale and Amber Ale and found all undrinkable. I will come back in a few months to try their next endeavors because this is a great location and a nice microbrewery would be a huge asset to the neighborhood. read more

A decent size brewery that makes pretty good Berry is not too much to ask in this place delivers. They have a huge screen for TV watching or sports and this basically looks like what a brewery that's independence you would expect to look like. So this is not your classic brewery. It's smaller production than even a traditional microbrewery or brew pub. It seems basically like it was a guy really liked home brewing and got some bigger equipment. I think it's a great time. Projector screen, lots of game both free or coin fed. Stopped by here last week to check this place out and try their beers. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed. Their amber is un-drinkable. It has a very odd taste that the owner said is a result of smoked hops(?). OK, but it was really awful. However, I will say the other 3 I sampled were pretty good. Their brown ale was ok, not great but not bad. I did enjoy their Smash and their IPA. I liked the atmosphere and it was a cool place to hang out. I certainly hope they succeed and I would be willing to try their other beers. I just won't get the amber again. read more

Manager was rude and confrontational to a friend who held a private party here. He would not allow the party to be private so random people were walking into the party eating the food. A major issue was the fact they charge $4.50 for a PINT of beer but served the beer in a 12oz cup. When we asked the owner about it, he lied and told us the cups were 14oz. They were NOT...it said on the cup they were 12oz. I will never return. read more
