If you like a hard pressure style massage, I recommend going here. If soft pressure is your thing, this probably wouldn't be the place for you. Be mindful when entering, their work space is contained by one big curtain -- wish they have a sign on their door that says "Please talk softly upon entering". The inside is very clean and they wash your feet before each time. The chairs are very comfortable and recline if you want. I went again earlier today, 5 months into my pregnancy (highly recommend for expectant mamas) and they adapted the massage to address different pressure points than they hit before I was pregnant. Bonus - there are parking spots for expecting moms right outside of Dicks sporting goods which is right next door to Chi - easy in, easy out! The one slight drawback is right outside the doors is a child's play area, if that kind of sound bothers you I suggest bringing headphones.

My only suggestion is that the neck pillows hurt my neck when laying face down; I'm not sure if it's just my sized body (I'm a smaller person) or if it's the pillow itself; I think they are too large and high to use for that purpose. Next time I will skip the neck pillow. Thank you! I will return!

It's…read moretaken me a minute to write this review only because I am finally able to revisit my experience in my mind. I decided to try this massage place out because I read the great reviews. I feel like I owe it to my fellow massage lovers out there to share my experience. Long story short, my visit to Ya Ya Massage Spa was like a bad dream. My first impression of this place was the smell. I cant really describe with words, but it was disgusting. Next, was the room where my massage took place. It was eerie. It had a red glow from a light that had been sloppily painted red? Creepy. (See picture). I got undressed and soon realized there was nowhere to put my clothes because the hook on the door had someone else's shirt and some sort of negligee! Wtf! (See picture). I remember thinking to myself "what kind of place have I come to!" I thought about leaving then, and I should have. I'm too nice. After undressing, I realized there was nothing on the table to cover myself with and I wasn't given any instruction on what to use, so I found a towel in a basket and used that. The massage itself was mediocre and probably would have been considered fine if it weren't for the fact that the woman was playing an Asian pop song on her phone on REPEAT! I said something, but she just changed it to another pop song which then was on repeat. She also did a terrible job draping me--I felt completely exposed through the whole massage. The massage cost me $70 (I used a coupon on their website) and I still tipped because once again, I am too nice.

So when I slept on my neck wrong and just happened to be in this area for lunch, I searched and found Ya Ya! I called and asked if I could be in in two minutes cause I was right down the road and just needed a 30 minute neck and shoulder massage. The woman very politely said yes she was available, and literally within five minutes of the call! She was very strong intuitive and absolutely helped my body in a matter of 30 minutes! I can't tell you how many massages in Portland. I've been disappointed with not hard enough., rarely and only one session , but this was absolutely amazing & I really look forward to going back! Thank you Ya Ya! I will make sure to bring my husband next time. He will love your strength! Appreciate you!

Given the past reviews, I requested a female therapist and my partner had a male therapist. The massages were very firm and strong. They work hard here and got a good amount of knots out. I would describe the massage as a lot of pressure with a Swedish and acupressure style with some Thai massage-like stretches. I think there were instances of the deep tissue massage on my shoulders, but there could have been more deep tissue at other aspects of the massage, though don't be afraid to ask them to focus on certain spots. The place was cold with AC on, but the hot stones they put on your foot, back and neck throughout were warming. The place was separated into various rooms with curtains. To respond to other comments about tipping -- Because massage places like these are deeply discounted costing $40-70 instead of $80-110, I don't understand the issue with tipping $20 for a strong massage. It is still deeply discounted, so keep that in mind when frequenting these "cheaper" massage places - people still deserve a living wage. Would definitely recommend this no-frills place.

I'll call it the deli of massage whenever you're super tight and needing deep tissue massage without the hassle of making an appointment and still having to wait a few days or even weeks. Quick in and out so don't expect any amenities nor compare it to your typical luxury spa. I spontaneous drop in on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm because my shoulder and back were so tight. I got the 90 minutes combo for $70, tipped $20 since it was exactly what I needed with no added luxuries of standard spa. I always loved deep tissue massage so I didn't mind a male masseur. He checked in often with me to ensure the pressure was okay. I asked if I wanted him to walked on my back and of course I did. All and all I was satisfied with my treatment for a very affordable price of $90 total for 90 minutes whole body massage; you can't ask for anything less than that. If you have sensitive skin, perhaps skip the facial massage part since l'm almost certain they use the same lotion for the whole body as well though I didn't ask them to confirm it. Since I live near by so I went straight home to take a shower afterwards. It's best you wear short or shrort and tank top for full body massage. You always have the option to undress to your comfort level or fully clothed.
