The food is outstanding!!! Easily some of the best smoked meat I've had in a really long time! I had the large rib plate with potato salad & collard greens. My mom had the large pork plate with bbq beans & Mac & cheese. And lastly , I had some banana pudding to go. It was freshly made & yummy! Brother Paul's bbq is a cozy, casual spot in Alabaster , Al. You walk in and the aroma of smoking meat surrounds you. The open kitchen with the BBQ pit in the back is surrounded by booths and tables, creating a warm and casual setting that is perfect for a family meal. The staff were universally friendly, not just our waitress but all the other servers and kitchen staff. They greeted us all with smiles and interacted kindly with my baby and toddler. The food was hearty and homey, with generous portions. We enjoyed a burger, pulled pork sandwiches, a corn dog, fries, baked beans, and a fried peach pie with vanilla ice cream. The burger was cooked fresh and perfectly grilled. The pulled pork was smoky and tender, but the sauce was a little more vinegary than I prefer. The fries were perfectly crisp and golden. My kiddo gave a huge thumbs up for his corn dog and the beans were a hit with the baby. The peach pie tasted like something my grandma would have made, warm and sweet and comforting. And if you like sweet tea so sweet you get cavities just looking at it, Archie's is the place for you (I had to do half and half myself).

About three minutes later, a couple came in and sat at another table, and they were waited on before either myself or the gentleman. I sat there as the staff behind the counter stared at me with disgusting looks. The waitress brought the older gentleman a drink without even asking for his order -- I'm assuming he was a regular and they knew what he wanted. Finally, after about six or seven minutes, a waitress came over and asked if I was waiting for someone. I told her no. She then asked if I could move to the counter and sit there. I told her I didn't want to move to the counter -- there was only one seat against a wall-type divider, and the space was about three feet wide. The older gentleman was not asked to move, and there was another older gentleman sitting by himself in a booth. Why was I being asked to move? I told the waitress that I would just leave, and she sarcastically said, "Well, you have a good night then." I did have a choice word to say to her as I was leaving. I really wanted to try Archie's, but I guess being young and dining alone is not welcomed here. A place like this deserves to go out of business.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to take advantage of the dining room, but we picked up lunch for three, taking advantage of both their curbside service and a cash-only special that was offered the week leading up to Easter. (Sorry about that.) Our plates were meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans, meatloaf with mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes (yes, this is the teenager's plate), and baked BBQ chicken with mac-n-cheese and green beans. We all chose the roll instead of the cornbread. Meatloaf is a pretty personal dish for Southerners, and we each have our own favorite way; Bevelle's is a pretty "traditional" meatloaf with a tomato-based sauce on top. Green beans are what I would call Italian green beans (aka Romano beans) that are wide and flat. Mashed potatoes can be with or without gravy, and they were a nice consistency. Mac-n-cheese was baked, and pretty flavorful. You can also choose between white and dark meat for their chicken; our white meat included a chicken breast and a wing. Nice BBQ sauce; sweet, not spicy at all, so like the "Kraft Original" of BBQ sauces. Nice portion, and filling enough for lunch. We ended up having a late dinner because this was so satisfying. Will look forward to returning and trying their well-known Hot Banana Pudding. Fair warning: They are open ONLY during the week, and ONLY for lunch hours.

The food is fresh and hot every time, and on the one occasion where it wasn't, Mr.Eddie personally brought me a fresh piece of fried chicken! 10/10 each visit and would give it more stars if i could. It is a bit on the pricy side but i would much rather support a local business and friendly face, than corporate restaurant/fast food that comes from who knows where and doesn't care about your food or experience.
