Attention all military and retired service members: If you're looking for fast, professional, and…read morereliable oil change service in Rapid City, look no further than Take 5 Oil Change at 803 Saint Patrick Street. Not only do they offer top-tier service, but they also proudly honor a 25% military discount--a meaningful gesture that doesn't go unnoticed by those of us who have served. I bring over 40 years of engineering and maintenance experience in the U.S. Navy, including 25 years of active duty and 15 years in government service working directly on U.S. Navy warships. When I say I know good maintenance practices, I mean it. While visiting my granddaughter (and by default, my daughter), the maintenance light came on. With my son-in-law out of town, I stepped in--something always seems to come up on the home front when the service member is away. I was grateful to be in town to take care of this, especially considering how often I wished someone had been there for my own family while I was deployed. From the moment I pulled in, the experience at Take 5 was top-notch. I was offered a complimentary bottle of water while Jacob walked me through each step. He verified the oil type, clearly explained the pricing, and ensured everything was fully transparent. The entire team operated like a well-oiled machine--thorough, professional, and in sync. They didn't just change the oil. They: * Replaced the air filter * Checked the wipers * Checked and adjusted tire pressure * Topped off all fluids What truly impressed me was their communication--loud, clear, and confident call-outs of each step and condition, followed by repeat-back confirmations. As someone who's spent decades in engineering, I appreciated the use of repeat-back procedures, a fundamental practice in high-stakes maintenance and operations. The final safety check was exceptional. Jacob verified: * Oil filter tightness * Drain plug secured * All fluids topped off Then, Denver, the lead mechanic, presented the dipstick for visual verification of the oil level and reviewed all completed maintenance before resetting the maintenance light. The quality assurance process at the end sealed the deal. It's rare to see that level of diligence and pride in work, and it reflects strong leadership and a commitment to doing the job right. I was thoroughly impressed and told my daughter she can trust them with her car. I would be proud to be the owner of this shop--and I'm proud to recommend it to anyone looking for honest, competent, and respectful vehicle maintenance. They get all done and present me with the ticket and it says 5 W 20. I look at the little window sticker and it also says 5 W 20. So did they do what I asked and mislabeled what they put in , or did they put in 5 W 20 as the recommended oil and blew me off as to what I wanted? Either way, how can I trust them? Called several places in Rapid City to get it looked at at 4:30pm. No one could see us for several days except this great place! They found several things that they said had to be fixed or we'd not be able to get where we were going. They lent us a car(thank heavens!) and we spent the night and were able to tour around the area as planned. We picked up our car with the repairs completed sooner than expected. They found that some things weren't done correctly in Fort Collins when we had had it looked at and repaired before our trip. These folks were so nice, reasonable and fast that we were amazed! Wish that they were closer to CO since we would love to go to them for every car problem. Thank you Betty & team!

I had another technician look at my brakes, it turns out I didn't need to replace ALL the pads, the discs, and the drums. Turns out I only needed to change the front pads. So the $1600 Ryan wanted to charge me was really just the price of 2 pads and labor. Was this because I am female and I don't know much about cars? It's really a shame that people think it's ok to take advantage of others because they know we often don't know what they do. Shame on you Ryan. I looked for a mechanic that worked on Volvos, and I found Thomas Auto Service. They were great! They were able to get me in that day, a Friday, diagnosis the problem, and get me running again. They did not have one of the computer chips on hand and could not get it till Monday - it was a Friday afternoon mind you - but they fixed me up enough, let me know what warning lights would stay on, and got me on my way. I feel I was treated very fairly and honestly. As an out of towner, who would probably never be back again, you worry about being taken advantage of by an unscrupulous mechanic. That was not the case here, at all. They were very honest, and the prices were very good (less than I was expecting, honestly), and it was quality work that allowed me to continue on my journey that day. I would recommend them without any reservations.
