I finally came to visit tonight on a short staycation from Hollywood, about an hour plus away. Stayed at the nearby Best Western Hotel with my daughter who is visiting from out of state and we walked here. Sitting and sipping a Blueberry Lemon Drop drink with Big Cypress vodka. A hidden gem in Kendall. I am so glad my friend took me here and we had such a lovely night chatting away with Fernando, one of the owners. He had his bartender work on making us some other off-menu drinks and it made for an even more delightful evening. The other owner ordered pizza for all the patrons to celebrate her son's 25th (he works there too), which was so nice. The vibes were great and you can tell they truly care about everyone leaving with a positive experience. When we were about to leave, Fernando was kind enough to gift us with a bottle of their gin since he knew my friend was moving away and I lived in D.C. It was so sweet. My husband and I wanted a date night that was a little different than we'd normally do. I discovered Big Cypress on Yelp and decided: who better to give a recommendation than my fellow Yelpers and, as usual, they did not disappoint! Driving up to Big Cypress is unusual as you pull up to a giant warehouse. My first thought was: "are we even at the right spot?" Upon entering, however, you walk into the most inviting, homiest, speakeasy-type bar. We were instantly greeted by the owner and welcomed in with open arms. My husband and I sat at the bar and started ordering different drinks. I had a blueberry lemon drop that was sweet and tart and overall delicious. I also had an espresso martini that unlike the other espresso martinis I've had was not so aggressive because of its notes of chocolate. I ended up drinking that for the rest of the night. My husband ordered the whiskey-based drinks that he equally enjoyed. Throughout the night, conversations with the bartender, owner, and other guests were flowing. We have not been back since they created the Speakeasy, and we have been wanting to check it out. We made our reservations for 8 on a Saturday. It was a little tricky trying to find the place at night, and Waze was not helping, so I called, and Fernando guided us on the phone. Loved this place. This has got to be the coziest, coolest speakeasy and liquor tasting experience I've had. We came here Friday night with some friends and the owner Fernando really made our night. The man is a passionate master of his craft and has been distilling for many years, he's also an amazing bartender. He has got this all down to a science and our experience was him serving us many of his liquors to try. All of his spirits are made in house. We tried as part of our tasting three gins, a rum, and a gin liqueur. They were a mix of floral, herbal, complex smooth and all really fun to try. The cocktails were top-notch. I can't decide which is my favorite, the bees knees is a prohibition era Jin cocktail which he makes with fresh local honey and it is delicious. I also had the barrel aged bourbon old fashioned which was so good, It didn't have the sweetness which I don't like in many cocktails on the street, it had a great amount of bitterness and even herbal notes to it. Love this new distillery. Big Cypress Distillery has a small speak easy feel. Very cozy. The owner Fernando is amazing. He makes the best drinks and provided there is a small group, he will explain everything and how well balanced drinks are made. The Bee's knees is a must try. I don't even like Gin and I absolutely fell in love with this drink. I also had the barrel aged bourbon old fashion and it was delicious. It is a pre mixed old fashion made by the owner himself. The drink is aged in the barrels and is ready for the customers enjoyment. Again it's so good. We also did a spirits tasting. Get there early because if the place is packed, you may not be able to purchase the tasting. Thanks to the wonderful atmosphere crafted by the owner (and his drinks) its clear that this is someone who is passionate about the science of distilling. We had a great night with our friends. Very small bar connected to a distillery in an industrial warehouse area. Though it's only open two nights a week, it is worth a drive and a visit. They focus on producing rum, gin, and bourbon, but they also produce other liqueurs. The bartender knows his stuff and will educate you as he is making your drink. My only complaint is that they use plastic cups instead of real glassware, but that is a small complaint considering the setting and the high quality of the rum, the gin, and the mixed drinks he prepares. Great spot and great to hear that they may be opening a place closer to US1. read more

Hands down, this was an awesome experience. We loved the tasting, and just hanging out with the owner and talking shop. I loved their play on the Negroni and they're killing it with all the gins. I also really liked their Rye whiskey. If you're hesitant because they're far, I get you, but anything good is worth the effort. The drive wasn't all that bad, and then you reward yourself with some awesome drinks. Although they don't sell food themselves, there are several food trucks like 2 minutes away which are equally as awesome. I definitely feel like you should try them out. I discovered this fantastic place through a post on Facebook on a Saturday afternoon and headed out with a friend that same evening. How could I lose? It was BYOV ("Bring Your Own Vinyl") Motown/Soul night. I certainly did not have on my Bingo card to be singing "Killing Me Softly" and "Darlin' Nikki" with a group of strangers while drinking an exceptional gin/honey/lime drink in a small place that evening. It did not even feel like we were in Miami. Everything about this place is absolutely marvelous - it has great bartenders and (again!) drinks, an intimate and friendly setting, cute decor, a fabulous vibe, and the music was great. Big Cypress is amazing. We came here on a rainy night and almost missed the entrance. It is small inside but the atmosphere is fantastic! So cozy and comfortable. Benjamin at the bar was excellent. He was so knowledgeable and answered our questions. We ended up having the Bees Knees cocktail and it was delicious! I loved that it had local honey in it. We ended up buying a bottle of the Sloe Gin to take home, but we regret not getting a bottle of regular gin. We plan on making another trip soon :) read more

The selection of gin, rum, and liqueur id worth the drive to this remote are near the Tamiami airport. There's a Lemon City Gin the is very smooth and very tasteful. You can tell they love what they do and it's not about the business ($$$) aspect of it. I support all local businesses. They give you a tour of how they make the gin and where they make the gin. I liked it...it's some potent gin! I went for a tasting that I bought on Groupon and left there feeling good. My brother and his friend with a cute little souvenir cup.
