The staff are very friendly and the prices of the produce very good - certainly cheaper than any nearby Supermarket. Unlike a Supermarket, you can expect the odd bit of dirt on your potatoes, and perhaps a slightly bend to your Carrots here, but you can't beat the price and I for one enjoy shopping at a local business.

As well as really reasonably priced veg and fruit they stock a nice range of pickles and sauces and bags of nuts and Bombay mix. Outside you'll find cut flowers. Staff are friendly and the shop itself seems a popular haunt for the good people of Weoley Castle.

I'm not sure why - maybe they make me think I am skipping through fields, plucking juicy strawberries at my whim, rather than skulking up and down the aisles of a a supermarket, where everything is wrapped in plastic. Either way, this is a great greengrocers: all the fruit & veg looks (and tastes, I can tell you) really fresh and lovely (despite the fact that it has obviously travelled some way to be here...). The shop itself is really clean as well - which is reassuring for a grocers. There's nothing worse than a grubby, mouldy grocers. I bought a bag of apples, a bag of apricots and a bag of plums which cost me a princely £3.50, which I thought was great - considering how expensive fruit can be in supermarkets. Outside you'll find a great selection of shrubs, plants and vegetables to plant in your garden, and at extremely reasonable prices. I get the impression that most of the items for sale, and in particular the veg plants, have been grown by hand, either by the shop themselves or else by a trusted local nursery - the care and attention is evident in each plant, and these are clearly not the product of some anonymous uber-greenhouse knocking out bedding plants by the thousand. Inside the store is cool and welcoming and beautifully stocked with fresh, organic produce that is a treat for the eyes and nose. After visiting this place you'll think twice about selecting the somewhat tired looking veg on offer at the local supermarket - this is super-fresh stuff that looks and smells great. The staff are friendly and helpful and know their stuff, both about the plants and the produce. They are also pretty fair - if you select a plant that is the last one available and it looks a wee bit sorry for itself, they'll normally either knock something off the price, or else not charge you at all. Birmingham has loads of shops like Hughes and many of the ones I've seen are quiet unclean and it's obvious the products have been left out for a while. Here though, there's probably fresher fruit and vegetable here than in the supermarket not to mention the prices are a lot better. As well as the normal prices being low, I was also pleased to see the amount of deals they had. Two boxes of strawberries can be picked up for £1.00 and a bunch of bananas for just under £1.00. So I think this shop is underrated.

There are more tins and bottles inside the store than there is fresh fruit and there are often items of stock on sale that have clearly been picked up cheaply in bulk at a cash and carry for a quick sale. That said, there is a small and fairly good selection of fresh produce out on display. They must find it quite hard to compete with the nearby Co-Op (2 or 3 doors down the road) but they nevertheless maintain a foothold on the Cotteridge map, so must be doing something right...I'm just not sure what it is!

They have a large variety of exotic fruits so you are more likely to get your kiwiis, lychees, and star fruits here but they also have a good stock of all the regular ones like pineapples, bananas etc. The stall is beautifully organized and clean, all fruits and vegetables in very good condition and the sellers are very friendly. If you can't find what you're after in the outdoor market I'd recommend coming here.
