The sooner you get here.. the better! Big Apple Bagels does the dang thang well. My husband and I stopped in to grab a few bagel breakfast sandwiches to go on a weekend AM. Even though it was 730am the place was fairly busy. This seems to be similar to the Naperville location where customers grab n go vs sit down and hang out. This location is more spacious compared to Naperville though and they do have a good amount of indoor seating. I tried the morning sunrise breakfast bagel sandwich which comes with scrambled eggs. I added cheddar cheese and veggie cream cheese. The portion is generous and priced well. They are not stingy when it comes to giving ingredients. My only 'con' is I thought the bagel was kind of plain. I asked for sourdough and may have gotten a plain bagel by mistake, no worries though. Everything else made up for it. I really enjoy the texture and flavor of the cream cheeses here and their bagels are exactly how I like them. Thick enough and fluffy. read more

We stopped in to try Big Apple Bagels one morning. We loved it! It's a cozy spot and the even had a shared community pantry where folks can pick up any food items that were set up on a long table inside the store. It was so thoughtful to provide this in a time of need. I chose a BLT on a sesame bagel with chive cream cheese. My husband chose a BLT and added an egg on an onion bagel with chive cream cheese. I got an everything bagel that I could save for later. Our total turned out to be around $15, a steal for breakfast for 2! We took our breakfast to go. The ingredients were fresh and the lady made our bagel sandwiches to order. These sandos made my morning. I will be back to grab more bagels and a tub of cream cheese. This experience reminds me to support local businesses: If you find a local spot that serves something fantastic, make that extra stop to show them some love. I had about an hour to kill between meetings, so instead of going home I thought I'd grab some breakfast. I live nearby, so I'm actually surprised it's taken me this long to check out Big Apple Bagel. In general, I honestly try and avoid bagels. Lotta carbs, not a lotta nutritional value. But hey, sometimes you just say yes. I tried to still make a healthier decision amongst what was offered though, which was really hard with all the available muffins and deliciously flavored bagels. Luckily there was a huge picture on their menu of the start fresh sandwich that caught my eye. Egg whites, turkey sausage, tomato and provolone on your choice of bagel (I went with 8-grain). To top off my order I of course needed my morning caffeine fix, so I chose an iced coffee. Despite there only being two of us in the restaurant, it actually took a good few minutes to whip up my order. Luckily I'm a pretty patient gal. Here's the breakdown of my experience... Start fresh sandwich: bagel was alright (nothing special), the turkey sausage, tomato and provolone were on point (great combo), and the egg whites were fluffy and huge! This was definitely a big sandwich. Normally I wouldn't complain, but the size of those egg whites plus the extras all on a thick bagel made this extremely filling and difficult to eat. I powered through half of my sammie and ended up taking off the egg for the second half. Too much for me first thing in the morning. Iced coffee: Tasted great! The man who took my order asked if I wanted cream and sugar and I said yes. I was surprised to see him come around the counter, walk over to the coffee station and concoct my iced coffee. I kind of felt bad, like... Should I be doing this myself? Regardless I was appreciative and luckily the coffee-sugar-cream ratio was spot on. My only complaint, and this is a personal preference, is that I hate when restaurants or cafes give you iced coffee in one of those cups that has a bubbled lid (like for a frapaccino). Not necessary and honestly it causes some unwanted beverage spillage. Decent experience overall. If I'm ever hankering for a bagel I'll probably be back. Great place, but make sure you come hungry! Their sandwiches are very filling! I've had BAB bookmarked forever, and I'm glad that I was finally able to check it out. I opted for the Roma Italian (w/no tomato) on an Asiago bagel. The girl who made my order was very friendly and provided me a paper menu, as my blind ass couldn't read the menu board (and I was too lazy to fetch my glasses from my car). I received my order promptly and was pleased with the sandwich overall, but I couldn't detect the salami. I feel that there was a bit too much ham, but it was still a delicious option that satisfied my empty stomach. The place was quiet and clean for a late Saturday morning, which allowed me to eat in peace. I look forward to future visits here to try some of their other menu items. read more

I've been going here for well over 10 years, when I was really little the owner would give me and my siblings free mini muffins! (He still does this for little kids!) everything's delicious and it tastes better knowing it's made with love. The owners are magnificent and if I could I would eat here every morning. I love Big Apple Bagel and it's staff! My son and I have made a ritual out of going to Big Apple Bagel before he goes to school in the morning. It has become something he looks forward to daily! My son usually has the chocolate chip or the double chocolate muffin, both of which I have tried and are DELICIOUS. I usually get the strawberry or cherry muffin and a frozen mocha. Everything I have had at Big Apple Bagel (including a few of the bagel sandwiches) have been DELICIOUS. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I LOVE Big Apple Bagel. read more

Admittedly I'm mostly here to get my Lox and Cream Cheese fix. But they do have a variety of Bagel sandwiches for you to try. I've tried a couple other sandwich, I believe it's called the California something rather and a breakfast sausage one... they were pretty good. However, I'm obsessed with the Lox & cream cheese. I usually have it with the Swiss Melt Bagel. Or asiago or plain or sesame or (currently) jalapeño! By far the Swiss melt is my fave, it has an amazing pillowy crunch when toasted. The Lox seem to be sliced fresh and alway with the right amount. You can ask for more on your extra special days (which for me is everyday) for an extra cost. Such a perky little shop right across the street from Waubonsie HS. I stopped in with my toddler right after a class at the park district for some lunch. We split a breakfast bagel - scrambled egg, cheddar, and bacon - and I got a coffee for myself and a Nesquick Strawberry milk for my daughter. I was delighted to see six different brews of coffee available, seven if you include decaf. I will be back again for a sammy and some more flavored coffee. read more

Such a cute small business establishment. Nice variety of bagels, menu selections, and pastry options. The price is really nice for a quick breakfast bite. The bagel overall is decent, good representation of the price. Service is very friendly and are very hard workers. Surprisingly they have a nice selection of flavored coffees and the pumpkin spice was very nice. I ordered the southern tradition bagel and the northern omelet and both were really good. Never coming to big Apple bagels again. I was standing in a long line waiting to get the bagels for my family and the lady is just touching the food then get to the register gets cash out and change handed over to the customer and then gets the next bagel without even changing her gloves they need to be a little bit more careful especially with COVID-19. I did call her out on it in front of all the customers in the store that you forgot to change your gloves after touching cash. read more

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars?!! Ed and Maryanne have a great shop and their food is fabulous. My wife and I eat there twice a week on average the their bagels and muffins are worth the trip. Additionally, they have dog bones and my puppies go bananas for their bones when we come home. I am a huge fan of supporting local and small businesses and Ed and Maryanne deserve all the support they can muster.
