Of the places I've lived over the years, there's always been a Big 5 located within a short drive. At the same time, Big 5 is sort of invisible to my sporting good shopping radar. As such, when something significant is on my mind (like new hiking boots or poles), you'll most likely find me at REI. This Big 5i is located very close to the 88/395 interchange and I've enjoyed the convenience of stopping there for last minute trip incidentals (like wool socks or a water bottle). I've found this store to be a little dense inventory wise and a bit difficult to find what I'm looking for. At the same time, staff has been helpful and I've had good luck finding what I'm looking for. read more

Do not come here to buy ammunition. I am visiting from California and wanted to shoot my handgun and couldn't find any in California. I was not going to bring it back I was going to leave it with my father-in-law who lives in Nevada. But they would not sell it to me because I am a California resident. That is not the law. Never buy running shoes from Big 5. I bought a pair for the gym and I now have planters fasitis in the heel from the shoes. The shoes have next to nothing in padding and all their shoes are cheaply made! Spend the extra money for your feet! read more

If I could give fewer stars I would. I went there because I knew our county needed people to shop at brick and mortar stores rather than Amazon. It is far easier to use Amazon. So I ran in there and I forgot my mask. Mind you, I would have had it on but I was out of the habit of bringing mine with me. They yelled for me to put my mask on ( it wasn't kind the way they asked). I looked in my purse and realized I didn't have one. I asked them for one ( all stores give them out if you forget it). She rudely stated, "you have to buy one". I reminded her that she was the one forcing them so she needs to give me one. At that point, she said, " I'm calling the police". Remember...I never refused to wear one. If I would have had more time for her idiocy I would have told her to call. I know for sure that in our area the Police would have done nothing other than laugh at her. Well, I guess Amazon gets my business! read more

Not helpful or knowledgeable and a bit smart mouthed in my opinion. I went to this store looking for running socks. Found a pair that said copper infused. I asked a male employee about them. He said I guess there is copper in the fabric. I asked him how that helps. He retorted...I don't know. I'm not a scientist. No, sir you certainly are not but as a good customer service representative you could of been a bit less snotty. Just kids filling a retail spot. If you need better info when shopping for sportswear etc...Blue Zone sports may be worth the drive! Live in this area but you just lost a customer for good. read more

The few times I've been here the staff weren't that helpful. I was trying to find a cheap bathing suit to go to the local pool in October but all the two pieces were around $40.00 which surprised me because it was off season and the selection was dinky. Ended up going elsewhere. read more

Good heavens. If you are going there for shoes, be SURE you know the exact size you need, because they are beyond useless when it comes to customer service. I don't think the young man running that department could be less personable or less helpful if he tried. It's like pulling teeth to get him to go to the back to look for a size! Then, to add insult to injury, he informed me no less than FIVE times that I would have to BUY the socks I was getting for my son so he could try on shoes (the ones we brought ended up being thick winter socks - my bad). One time is enough, thank you. I don't get my kicks by stealing socks! Once we FINALLY found a pair of shoes that would fit my son, what do you know?? They are NOT on sale. Gee, what a surprise! After all this, we went up to the front.....and not one cashier in sight. I KNOW that the shoe guy saw this and did NOTHING. He walked by us twice while we stood there waiting. Finally realized both cashiers were trying to hang up a sign outside. To be fair, the young lady that came inside did apologize about the wait. That's the reason they get two stars instead of one. Very disappointed with my visit today to Big 5 in Minden, NV today. Went in to purchase a pair of Soccer shoes for my son. We found a pair that had a hand written price in Red inside the shoe on a Big 5 label. They were marked $25.00 I asked two associates if it was correct and they both said it was $25 but we could check up front at the register. When we went to the register we were told they are actually $75.00. The Manager stated to me she didn't know why they were even marked in Red and that was the wrong price and would not honor their mistake. Extremely poor customer service. We live 3 blocks from this store but I am done with the poor service that has been continual. My husband hunts and fish he is glad they have opened the Sportsman in Carson City. A longer drive but very good customer service. read more
