We hit up five different shops, but none of them had a clue when it came to snowboard boots--just ski boots--and forget about finding half sizes like a 10.5. Then we found Sports Ltd., and man, it was a game-changer. They've got a huge selection of snowboard boots. Jack helped us out, and this guy knows his stuff. He took the time to get my boyfriend into the perfect boots and even checked in the back for last year's models to save us some cash. Didn't push anything, just gave us honest, solid help. As such, when something significant is on my mind (like new hiking boots or poles), you'll most likely find me at REI. This Big 5i is located very close to the 88/395 interchange and I've enjoyed the convenience of stopping there for last minute trip incidentals (like wool socks or a water bottle). I've found this store to be a little dense inventory wise and a bit difficult to find what I'm looking for. At the same time, staff has been helpful and I've had good luck finding what I'm looking for.

I needed a 2.5 barbell plate and pulled it off the rack with a sign clearly advertising $5.99. The plate does not have bar code on it. I bring it to the cashier (Keoni, according to the sales slip), and she looks it up in the computer and rings it at $48.99. I advise that the sign shows $5.99. She calls for assistant Manager, who takes the plate and I show her the sign. She tells me that she must "call corporate" to check price. I again point to the very clear sign showing 5.99. She disappears into an office with weight plate. Now, 2 other people are in front of me. While waiting, I see that on the computer screen is a TWENTY FIVE pound plate with the price showing $48.99. I advise Keoni that my plate is 2.5 pounds and she entered the wrong product in her look up. She does not apologize and I suggest that she go tell the asst manager of her error. She does not. Finally, a nice young man comes over to the front registers and I show him Keoni's error. She never admits she made a mistake. I show her on the plate where is clearly is stamped thart this is a 2.5 pound plate...and advise her that she did not enter the correct weight of the plate. She tells me to "quit whinning"..! Finally, the young man gets her to ring the item up at the correct price of 5.99 Several customer service failures: Keoni: entered the wrong item in the computer never admitted her error to the assistant manager Told me to "shop whinning" Never apologized to me Ass't Manager Knowing that Keoni is new, never verified that Keoni had entered the correct item in the look up Never looked up the item herself As we both were looking at the very clear sign showing the price, she should of "honored" the price show on the sign Went into the office and I never saw her again I want to talk (no voice mail) to the store manager...Please have him call me

Brent at the Carson City Blue Zone is an absolute rock star…read more I addition to being kind and helpful he is amazingly knowledgeable. My wife bought new boots, not at this store, and had problems with the fit. Brent bent over backwards to help her out and after several adjustments over multiple visits they now fit her perfectly. He is one of those boot fitting geniuses, that the Tahoe area needs. I have talked to him multiple times about skis and bindings and he really knows his stuff. If you need any help with ski equipment, or skiing, he is also a youth team coach, Brent is your man. Blue zone is lucky to have him.

Prior to the 2024/2025 Season, I had not skied for maybe 25 years? After moving to Genoa in late 2020, it took awhile to direct my attention to skiing in general and Heavenly in particular. That happened through a combination of conversations with friends, a good deal on an EPIC Tahoe Value Pass, and realizing that it was about 20 minutes from the House to Heavenly's Boulder Lodge Parking. As far as the Skis, bindings, and boots went, I opted for a season-long rental package through BlueZone Sports in Carson City. I had to buy the poles separately and I already had Helmet, Goggles, and Ski Bib in hand. I ended up with Fischer RC Fire (165) skis with RS9 bindings, and Dalbello Vantage 4F Boots. Looking back on the season, I think that was a good combination, lacking any frame of reference to what might have been better. I went out to Heavenly 8 times during the season, which wasn't a lot, but was a good start, largely on groomed Blue slopes. I'll definitely be out next year and probably with purchased equipment. The BlueZone Sports shop at Lake Tahoe has a Labor Day sale for previous model skis and demos, so we'll see what happens. I was happy with the service that BlueZone provided at both the beginning and end of the ski season. I particularly appreciated the patience shown to this "old guy" as he initially ventured forth and then finished up with a great deal of Alpine satisfaction.

If I'm driving up with a friend who needs rentals, I can get in here before 8 o'clock on a Friday and we're golden for the next day. I was originally apprehensive, because the place is in a highly traffic'ed mall next to the gondola, and thought their prices would be inflated. Their prices are very reasonable. Friends have been happy with the gear. I got a kid's seasonal rental for my 7 year old here, and plan to come back next year. Only caveat--they have some odd rules for when you're allowed to pick them up (something like they won't rent in early January, so call ahead to get their full details). Don't think they do wax-and-sharpen for personal skis in the rental store.
