I don't know what the deal is with these rude reviews. They are all tripping! The selection, prices, and staff are all high standard. Sandra and Kayla, for example, come to mind, when I think of how I am greeted, treated, and then checked out with my purchase. They always check, and make sure I am able to find what I need, and if I have any coupons. They are extremely knowledgeable! The vibe in there is very enjoyable and happy! Go in and see for yourself! Look, I have been going to Big 5 since I was a tike. We came into THIS store to score snow boots for my daughter's trip to Big Bear. I had already ordered everything else online, so this was supposed to be a painless enter & exit. We were directed to the back of the store where we found an attendant working the shoes. He basically pointed towards where the boots were located and the rest was up to us. Okay, I sold retail shoes about forty years ago so my shoe confidence is way above the bar. Problem is, they could have at LEAST made an attempt at being helpful. No dice. That plus, the store is SARDINE cluttered with merchandise coming out of the gills. Oh, as we arrived at the checkout counter we were greeted nicely when it was time to lay down the fundage. You want to be nice NOW? I was not having any part of it. See ya'. read more

I went in here the other day for yoga mats and blocks and could not believe how welcoming and helpful Adrian and the female associate were. She told me they had several boxed sets on sale and it was better and cheaper than if I had bought the items separately. Everyone was so happy and focused on all the customers in the store. That's OK Jonas is a thinker and says follow him over to the pool section and voila he made me Smith machine pad out of a noodle! Love big 5 and watch my email religiously for deals, one of my favorite places to shop since I was a kid. Today I went in to purchase a new carhartt hat cause mine is worn... after trying on a new style I decided to purchase both hats (one is the same as I had on) head straight to the register with both hats only to be harassed & accused of swapping the hat I had on with the one I purchased. I was blown away that a manager was wearing a mask with an assault weapon depicted and some fringe nutter slogan on it. I did mention if he was aware of sandy hook or columbine and if (he) thought that was an appropriate thing to wear as rep for big five. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I walked in to return an unused tent & an associate by the name of Renee (tacky ginger haired white woman) was super aggressive and disrespectful towards me. Insisted the item was damaged & when I asked her to show me she changed up the narrative. I asked to speak to a supervisor & she went to the back to give him a call, came back to finally refund me my item, started slamming things & screaming at me. After she completed the transaction I told her to have a good day & she ignored me. I really don't understand what's up with these middle aged miserable women hating their job and spreading their toxic aura everywhere instead of just quitting & finding another job that doesn't involve working with the public. She seemed like she hated her job & it's fucking sad because I know plenty of other young girls who would be more than happy to take her position and do a better job at it. read more

The Big 5 staff was so professional, pleasant, and helpful, The staff wore masks and following all Covid-19 procedures and that made me comfortable to be able to shop for all my items. Over the years I have purchased many items from Big 5. Some Good, Some just for convenience sake. No other purchase than tonight makes me wish Sporting Goods did not leave Desert Crossing. Last Sunday my son who is turning 13 went bicycle shopping. We hit many stores, including Big 5 La Quinta. My son made a list and we took pictures of every bike that he preferred at each store. When at Big 5, which happened to be the last store we were at, we found a bike he liked and it was on sale. I specifically asked if we would get "This Bike" (the one that was put together and ready to go), and was told "Yes, Absolutely". That was last Sunday and I asked how long the sale (offer) stood. They said at least until Friday, but no guarantees beyond that, because the sales could change. So after some days of deliberating, my son decided that. that was the bike he wanted and off we went to Big 5. Sure enough, the Bike was there and we asked for it so that we can purchase it. They brought us a unassembled bike in the box. I explained what I was told just 5 days ago that we could purchase the assembled bike; so they got the manager Rene involved. Rene said that they received a memo "today", that they could NOT sell the display if they had one in the box. I told her that this past Sunday they told me that I could indeed buy the display until Friday at the sale price until today (if it was available, which obviously it was). Rene stood her ground and verbally pointed to the memo they received today. Very Poor Customer Service. With 6 kids, I have done my fair share of shopping at Big 5. NO MORE read more

I came in last night 02/02/2021 around 7:45pm to get a new pair of shoes. At first I was helped by a very nice young woman who grabbed the size of shoes I was looking for, unfortunately they were wide so my feet floated in them. As I found another pair I liked, an employee Gabriel I believe, grabbed me the size I needed. Unfortunately those were perfect except that one shoe was 11.5 & other was 12, Gabriel went into the back & found the right shoes & corrected the problem. I felt awful as I was the only person left in store & was unaware they closed at 8pm & by then it was 8:06pm. They were excellent in every aspect, and reassured me not to feel bad about the time but I did because I'm a waiter & bartender & know what it's like when customers walk in 2 minutes before closing. These 3 were great though, excellent service from all 3, I'm sorry Gabriel is only name I can remember. The other man & other woman who worked Tuesday night the 2nd at 8pm thank you. I wish I remembered your name because you guys were great. This how customers should be treated & they made me feel important. Again, thank you Gabriel & other 2 for your stellar customer service. Went looking for ammo today and even before I got to the door an employee is asking what I'm looking for - I'm still in the parking lot. I keep walking towards the door and I say "I'm looking for ammo". She stops me at the door and tells me to wait outside because they have a couple people inside. Walking in we barely receive a greeting, employees almost look shocked or inconvenienced to have people walk in. Twice we were in shoes section for about 15 minutes before anyone came to check on us (although they made eye contact when we walked in and saw us walk to the back). Then, when we went to ring up the shoes which were $35 originally and they came up to be $40. We told the cashier and they refused to do anything about it. My girlfriend and I were in town camping. Our Walmart tent broke. So we came here for a tent. They gave us a good deal on a tent. We got back to our site and it turns out all the poles were broken. Pissed we went back for a new tent. They immediately sensed our frustration. The assistant manager(I wish I could remember his name) was great. He helped us find an even bigger, better quality and more expensive tent. He ended up giving us a big enough discount so that the tent was cheaper than the first one. Today was amongst the worst service I had ever received. I went to buy a pair of running shoes and went through about 5 different pairs of shoes looking for the right size and fit. I sat 20 minutes trying on different shoes and looking for different sizes. Not once was I offered help and 2 associates completely ignored me. After I finally picked a shoe and found a size I went to pay and when I approached the register the employees at the register both indicated it wasn't their register. They called the cashier who was busy helping another customer. He rang up the shoes and I decided they didn't deserve my business. This a completely different situation from the previous day when I had bought a pair of work shoes at the same store. read more
