*Best Dick's in Town" Dick's is a mega-corporate chain that's now the #1 sporting goods retailer in the U.S, with over 700 locations as of 2024. Dicks had an IPO back in 2002 and trades on the NYSE under the ticket symbol DKS. Their retail prices are standard. But also some very reasonable pricing and great discounts & sales too. I still miss Sport Chalet and Sports Authority that unfortunately filed for Bankruptcy back in 2016. I also prefer to shop local and support the Mom & Pop shops. But brick and mortar sporting goods stores have become dinosaurs...so I've grown to like Dick's. It's become one of my go-to's when I prefer to try something on or experience the product prior, opposed to online shopping. And Dick's has much better quality brands and inventory compared to Big 5. Been to this location a handful of times, and each time made a purchase. I've also ordered from their website once because the size of the item I wanted wasn't in stock. The layout here is decent but the store itself is always clean and pretty well-stocked. There's usually a fair amount of store team members wandering around either stocking or tidying the sleeves & racks. A few of the Team Members here are very helpful & kind and seem to care about customer service and experiences. Reason for knocking off a star? Some of the team members here, as well as the ones at the check-out register, appear as what I call "dialing-it-in and punching a time clock" because they act as tho they don't wanna be here...and are too cool for the room. I wonder if this stems from management here...or they haven't a clue and my reason for pointing this out. Because some of Dick's Team Members need to be better Team Players or go take a seat on the bench. read more

Long wait for any sort of service. Came in today with my son, trying to find something for his baseball games. The people working here were not helpful. Prices were a bit high. Somoene said they would help, they dipped out but never came back. So I was prety upset about that. Ended up leaving and went to another store. read more

I bought a new treadmill and received excellent customer service from the store manager, Eric. When my delivery got delayed he jumped into action and made sure I received my treadmill as promised. He and Ray delivered and assembled the equipment in record time and their personal involvement in remedying the situation spoke volumes in terms of how much they care about their customers. Great staff and big store. Love this Dick's location at the Palm Desert Mall. Especially after a long, hot day, they stay open an hour later than the mall (9pm on weekdays) and it is cool and clean inside with plenty of space to enjoy shopping and checking things out. We bought hiking sticks and bike supplies. Kevin was super helpful with all our questions, and his coworkers were too even tho it was almost closing they did not make us feel rushed. I started playing tennis in the area with some friends, and they had a lot of cool things to choose from here. They had some rackets, clothing, necessary attire alongside the tennis balls and such. I returned a sweatshirt today that I wore once and the cuffs were fraying. Never washed it. I was told they don't take used items. After saying I'll go change out of it and just return it, they said ok. But, after I did that they continued to complain about it, gave me surly attitude ....you'd think I was committing a crime. Shop at your own risk of injury- literally. Dicks Sporting Goods doesn't give a damn about the safety or commitment to its customers. While trying on a pair of hiking boots, a detached security tag left a one inch razor sharp pin inside of the boot. When I inserted my foot, the pin drove a quarter of an inch into my foot all the way to the bone. I screamed. I Removed my foot from the shoe, and pried the pin out of my foot and started bleeding on the floor. The manager came (Humberto) with an alcohol wipe and a bandaid. I calmly conveyed my irritation. He flippantly responded, "would you like to file an incident report? " and offered me a measly 15% discount on the purchase. Left me with the impression that he may have thought I deliberately stabbed myself for a discount! Guess I got lucky compared to some of the other reviewers here. I was in town for a long weekend of hiking at Joshua Tree and needed a few essentials that couldn't travel with me on the plane -- namely, fuel for my camp stove and some Mountain House meals. The gentleman in the camping section was super helpful, gave me his thoughts on some of the meals I hadn't tried yet and even offered some recommendations for where to camp/hike in Joshua Tree. No line at either check out on the two visits I made (after I realized I'd forgotten to pack my wool socks! Less variety for those than the food, but I got what I needed). Brooks, Asics, Superfeet, 2XU -- more than just the usual Nike & Adidas. Ample supply of accessories and nutrition available too. As expected -- very weak selection of men's running apparel. Just the usual racks of huge, baggy, basketball-style men's apparel. Better to go to any of the local shops: Running Wild, Brickhouse, and Palm Springs Cyclery, among others. I decided to stop by here on a whim during a recent trip to the desert with my family. I usually hit up this mall to browse and maybe buy something at the nice Macy's located inside, but I thought I'd try Dick's just to look around. I was pleasantly surprised! There it was, right smack in the middle of a Westfield corporate mall, a Dick's that sells not only ammo, but sporting arms, knives, archery equipment, and a bunch of other outdoors related items. I have to say the selection of ammo was really good, especially since they had the oh so elusive .22LR in stock. I bought my allotted limit of deuce-deuce, as well as some .223 and .30-06. The 2 gentlemen in the gun area who helped me, as well as the female cashier, were very nice and respectful. No gun shop douchebag commandos here. The rifles and shotguns seemed to be reasonably priced but I didn't really take a close look because Palm Desert is just too far for me to drive twice in 10 days to buy a firearm. Everything else looked pretty good, but I do wish they had a bigger tennis section. I was looking for a tennis polo style shirt but they had a very limited selection and I had to go up the street to Sports Authority for that. Also, the shoes seemed to be priced at full retail value, so that's why I gave it a 4 star rating. Otherwise, this place is great and I will be sure to stop by this Dick's store every time I go visit the Palm Springs area. read more

I bought a Yeti cooler for $300+ at Palm Desert Dick's and they will not allow an exchange for a model that was immediately upgraded. Oddly, my brother made the same purchase at a different location and they exchanged it with no issue. The sales girl was rude to me and suggested i contact Yeti if i "didn't like it anymore." My suggestion would be that Dick's backs up what they sell and fire rude employees. And if you get complaints about a supplier's product- take it up with the supplier and don't pass it off on your customer. (x-customer) Very lame experience. We stopped in to check out this New Sporting Goods Store. It's in the middle of the Westfield Mall. What a breath of fresh air compared to Sport Authority down the road on the 111. Unlike the SA, this store is well lit, very clean, well organized, and had a selection of men's Nike, Under Armor, & Reebok apparel that I have not seen at either Sports Authority or Sports Chalet. It's not cheap here--It was full retail for everything when we stopped in. Not sure if they ever have discounts or sales? But it seems like you can find some unique items not too many places sell as well as the usual. I would definitely check em out, especially if you need something special or different. read more

I would say that it can sometimes be a bit difficult to find an employee in order to get help (at least in my experience), but once you do find them, they are friendly and helpful.
