I been in this store for years. I like shopping at big 5 but this location has horrible customer service particularly from the manager ( tall guy with glasses) zero friendly service. Also going on to the cashier name starts with a k might be kaleigh super rude attitude when I was getting checked out. Honestly I felt like they may be prejudice or judgmental towards particular types of customers. But I would not say racist. I honestly feel they need new jobs if they can't attend to customers in a polite and patient manner. Awful and combative customer service. I look forward to not having to deal with this company again. I made a purchase, took the item home and it was non-functional right out of the package. I returned to the store in under 24 hours to return it and was told that due to COVID, they aren't returning items for at least 45 days and I have to wait. So I waited. Then, today I called the same store to make sure I could still return the bad item and was told yes I could. I told the clerk at Big5 that I have the item and original receipt. He said to bring those in and he will return the item. When I arrived with the return, I told him that it didn't work right out of the package. Not once. He asked why and I explained that the item leaked and doesn't function. He said they all leak. So I asked if they all leak to the point the product doesn't function? He said no, that sounds excessive and continued with the return. Next he asked me for the original credit card, which I was not told to bring when I just spoke to him on the phone 40 minutes prior. When I pointed out that he could have mentioned that when we spoke, before I traveled to the store and he said that is standard in all retail locations when you return something. I've been in retail longer than this guy has been alive, and I know that is not the case. Someone needs to train him on what a POS barcode is, and then train him on how to service a customer. With so many people in need of work, this guy needs to be replaced with someone who cares about their job and the client. Never helpful. Always combative. The same thing happened to me at this location last time I was here. Now I've learned. I look forward to SOMEDAY meeting Big5's criteria for the return of a non-functional product they sold me so I can leave and never go into their stores again! My dude Harvey is a wonder man he helped me and my buddy out at the ammo/gun station and took the time to answer all our questions and show us the ammo not once did he give us attitude or act like it was a burden. 10/10 I highly recommend buying guns and ammo from this location especially if the OG Harvey is working. read more

Lots of stuff here! Sporting goods stuff. It's a small store with everything packed in pretty tight. The aisles are narrow, but fairly clean and organized. We were there to buy shoes. Most of their shoes are Nike, Fila, and Sketchers with a few others thrown in. Prices range from average to high. They did have quite a few on clearance that were $20 and under. Cashier was courteous. Explained how their sales work. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I purchased a product, product didn't work, Big 5 gave me a refund. That isn't the issue. How the manager handled this and his integrity is the real issue. I purchased a red/green dot sight for a firearm. I got it home and the green worked but the red did not. After a couple of smacks the red dot flickered on. That signals a bad connection somewhere and I returned it. While conducting the return, the manager put a battery in the optic, turned it on, and said it worked. He then in a passive aggressive way accused me of changing my mind and that being the real reason for the return. He actually put that on my return receipt as well. He said he was glad that he didn't treat it as a defect and returned the item to the shelf. Here's my issue. Red dots are purchased for a number of reasons, often for defensive firearms. That scumbag didn't want to acknowledge a defective product and put an item on the shelf that could potentially be problematic for the end user when their life depends on it. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but still a big no-no. Sure I smacked the optic into working, but not working well. I ponder how well that optic will perform under recoil. I've been a Big 5 customer for years and I'll continue shopping there at times.....but not this store. read more

There always seems to be a return or exchange issue but this was the last time Im dealing with Big5. I literally just bought sunglasses 2 days ago and the nose piece keeps falling off so I called and asked to talk to the manager but the associate said they were too busy to talk to me and that I could come down, and she will look at it but could not guarantee in exchange. I could not believe that they are telling me to come all the way down there but can't guarantee exchange on sunglasses I bought that were defective!!! 30 bucks gone. I came in last week with two others to look for hiking boots and gear for my trip to the Grand Canyon. We were greeted and helped by a tall guy named Chris. He was extremely nice and helpful. He helped me and my two friends find hiking boots. He recommended the Hi-Tec which we tried on and they were super comfortable. Although it took us a few tries to find the perfect fit, he was patient and always checked with us on how they fit and felt. He also recommended we get thick socks to prevent any rubbing and blistering so I bought a pack of dickies sock. Well my trip and hike was super successful thanks to these boots. I was able to go over slippery slopes of rocks and snow just perfectly! read more

I up and decided wearing a flannel shirt as a light sweater during those interim few weeks in Arizona where you need something for a few hours in the morning and a heavy lined flannel is too much. I searched a half dozen places on the net and it seemed Big 5 had a pretty good selection. I had never been in a Big 5 before and found it a bit crowded and I had trouble figuring out how the store was laid out. While I didn't find exactly what I was looking for in my price range I found a zip front fleece that was serviceable and when fall comes I will start watching their ads to find a backup for when it is in the wash. read more

I just went for shoes. Went to put them on and got a piece of glass jabbed in my foot that had been on the floor. Took it to the manager who said hmm and threw the glass in the trash. On Friday, August 28th, I went into Big 5 Store #348 to purchase my 11 year old son his first pair of football cleats. Being a single parent, I have had to save a few dollars here and there to be able to afford his cleats, so I was very excited to have been given a $10 off a purchase of $50 or more that I received from Cactus High School. Upon checking out I attempted to use my coupon and was informed I could not because I had chosen a Nike brand of cleats, being a little discouraged and disappointed, I then chose a Under Armor brand of cleats instead, only to be told that was THE OTHER brand I could not utilize my coupon with. I communicated that this was very disheartening and that although I understood that the coupon said "some exclusions apply" that customers should be informed of that when they call to question whether the coupon was valid. At this point I'm just about in tears because I promised my son his cleats and budgeted accordingly with the $10 off. I was also purchasing his mouth gaurd which was neither a Nike or Under Armor brand, which I was able to buy BECAUSE of the coupon discount. So my issue is this, it should be printed and/or disclosed ON the actual coupon that Nike and Under Armor brands are not eligible for the use of a coupon, which the cashier very snotty like informed me "Yeah, bummer, you just happened to pick the only 2 brands that you can't use your coupon on" and then proceeded to laugh even though she could visibly see that I was in tears and disheartened. The other issue is that the mouth guard I was purchasing was NOT either of those brands so why couldn't I use my coupon towards that? Do y'all see where I'm coming from? My purchase was a pair of Nike cleats and a mouth gaurd, if the coupon had been accepted what definitive indicator would there have been that my coupon was used on the cleats? If both of my items had been Nike brand then yes I could understand not being able to use it, but that was not the case. I will NOT be giving Big 5 my patronage any further and yeah, I get it...I'm just only one customer out of millions that they really don't care about losing, so all this is probably just a waste of my time, but seeing how this corporate business claims to actually care about the sporting good needs of their customers, I find this hypocritical incident to declare the opposite. Shame on me, I should have gone to a genuine customer service oriented merchant like Universal Athletics, who DOES care about the ONE customer that is spending their hard earned money in their establishment and would never nickel and dime a patron. read more

I went to the Big 5 store to look for look for food and cooking utensils, propane stoves .... for camping - on my land as I build an off-the-grid dwelling. I was a little surprised that the prices were higher than I remember from when I used to live the RV lifestyle years ago in California. Surprised also at the variety of things available and I got some ideas of things I could use later on. Staff were friendly and would have helped but I just wanted to look at prices and prioritize things myself. When I made my choices and noted what things I wanted to get later, I carried the stuff to the register and they tallied it up to $216.44. O.K. I swiped the visa card through the machine and waited and finished the transaction and hit the green button as the salesclerk told me to. And again, since it was not doing anything. Then the machine turned itself off. He called some else to the checkout counter and had him do something and check out another customer and then they decided the transaction was lost. That took about 15 minutes. They re-booted the system and the c.c. machine came to life again and they had to ring everything up again and I had to swipe the card again and this time it worked. I asked what about the first transaction. They told me it did not exist. They said it had not gone through so don't worry about it. O.K. Then I look at my online bank statement two days later and I have two identical entries for 216.44. Each one raised my credit card debt by 216.44. One paper receipt, two transaction numbers and 432.88 of my money gone. I called the Big 5 manager about it and he said they didn't have anything to do with these computer things and he gave me the number of their corporate office. Of course the office was not taking calls at this time so I called my bank and they put me through their list of dumb questions: Did I have a receipt for each transaction? What kind of question is that? If I had two receipts ?? then I would have already taken care of the issue when I was at the store wouldn't I ??? The bank is going to handle this case and the negotiations with the Big 5 corporate office for me. Corporate crooks dealing with corporate greed. If you go to Big 5 on W. Bell Road, be prepared for cheerful staff who will happily take your money and cannot make their computer system work - and tell you to trust them. They seem to be able to cause problems but not to fix their own mistakes. read more
