Very friendly staff, good prices. I've never really shopped at Big 5 but this was a pleasant experience.

Many years ago, my uncle was a manager of a Big 5 store in Southern California. In recent times, Big 5 has sort of been on a downslope in it's corporate life-cycle-- they used to be the go-to store for all sorts of active wear, sporting goods, athletic equipment and specialty gear for hunting and fishing. Now, they're sort of like a shoe store that sells guns. But I enjoy visiting Big 5 stores that are outside of Southern California. You see, Big 5 franchises tend to be small enough and far enough away from their Corporate Masters that local stores have some say in what merchandise lands on the shelves. Therefore, when I visit a place like the Crescent City location, I can find fishing gear that is local to the river steelhead and ocean lingcod scene that I can't find in my local Pasadena store (well, before it burned down, at least...) In the summer months, this is also a good place to find a cheapie float tube to goof around in the Smith or the Klamath... or if I forgot to pack fishing line for those epic redtail perch bites out on the sandy stretches south of town... this place is my jam. Sure, they also sell nylon workout bands and compression underwear... but let's keep this outdoorsy and just end it right there. read more

Nice but incompetent workers, charge me more than I was expecting and ran extra background checks without asking me and kept charging me for them. With no information that they were going to charge me extra. read more

This review is for my experience with employee Candice. You can tell she cares about her customers by her EXCELLENT customer service and attention to detail. She has helped me in the shoe department, where she had the foresight to find me some other styles similar to the one I requested and at the register where she is patient and professional. We have been shopping at Big 5 for years at different locations. We had bought a pair of work boots( on sale for $60) so not so cheap a couple months ago. My husband went to zip them up and the zipper just split. Mind you he just zipped them up. Nothing vigorous! We took them and exchanged them thinking it was a fluke thing. Barely over a month and the same thing happened. With the receipt in hand we wanted a refund. The manager said it was just over a month and there was nothing he could do and what could he do with them. To me a boot should last longer than a month. We have spent a lot of money at this store but that will be our last visit. They don't stand behind their sales. Their product is cheap and their manager was rude. We will take our business elsewhere! Beware... they just want your money!!! read more

Love this place and the new products that are constantly in! Always so cheap too. It's my go to for sportswear in town.

I am low income and on two separate occasions kids needed shoes . I didn't want cheap fall apart shoes , so I went to Big 5 and the exceeded my expectations. I told them my budget with son first time and they went in the back and found ones right on the dot that my son loved. Second time I send my middle son on his own and they were amazing and asked him questions on his activities to find him just the right shoes. Ty so very much. Big 5 in Cresent City. read more

Products are ok but NO shopping carts for anyone or handicap electric carts and isles are too narrow for electric handicap scooters to negotiate. Handicapped will shop elsewhere. read more
