Nothing special here, but it is a Big 5.And I can always count on them for having some items .I look for even when other places don't have them. Well then, again, maybe that does make them special anyway 'm i'm pretty much gatekeeping right now. Because when I'm looking for certain things, I don't want everybody else to have.. staff here is always friendly & helpful, always the same two people. I usually run into once a week And if you're looking for things you can't find. And target & Walmart Big 5 sporting goods may just have it. Came to the store approximately 530 at night, looking for some of their sale items. Was blocked at the door by the managerial-type who said if you don't have a mask you can't come in. They don't provide masks, they were not helpful, in fact they were quite rude. I've heard from other customers how rude they are. I have now experienced it for myself. I will not be coming back! I have no problem with a store implementing a mask policy. But, if you're going to implement one, then you should probably provide a freebie-mask for the customer who wants to come in and purchase your products. That would be a common courtesy... read more

I never rate on yelp but this time I felt like I needed to me and my wife went to big 5 sporting goods to find some water shoes and I wish I would have gave my business to Dicks sporting good the whole time we were being followed like if we were some sort of thief's from the moment we walked in the manager followed us but never asked if we needed help after he walked away immediately after a sales rep gets close enough to look but again no help offer and when we walked near they just looked at us up and down never again read more

I went to this big 5 and after standing at the gun counter for a good 5 or 4 minutes with no one offering to help I gave up and left telling the security guard that i guess no one works there. Won't shop there again. Treat customers right or lose them. read more

I have to say I usually don't always think of Big 5 when I have to get something (sports gear related) usually if Target or Walmart doesn't have it I usually debate whether or not I want to journey out to Rosedale to Dick's ....Then I realize that oh yeah...There's a Big 5 around the corner. I'm always pleasantly surprised by all of the selection and quality brands too (nike, reebok, Adidas, ect) Now if you're looking for all the most UP TO DATE shoes and Jordan gear...it's not going to be here but if you just need some decent Brand name gym shorts...i'd go here. I like this store. The staff is really nice. I was taking advantage of some one day deals and sales this week. I just wish Big Five was more efficient about the sales items. Like if something is on sale, to mark it easier so I can find. Otherwise I like this store. The employees were always offering help. read more

So, this is a typical chain sporting goods store. I shop here a few times a year because of its proximity to my home. I have found the staff to be helpful and approachable. This isn't the kind of place where you will find a $3,000 shotgun or a $5,000 wall tent but the prices are reasonable especially if you follow the sales. Having said that, you sometimes need to time your visit. For instance, don't bother stopping by a day or two before school starts after summer vacation as the place will be overrun with screaming kids and frustrated parents. I was in Bakersfield with my family on Sunday. I was purchasing 2 sleeping bags. Both bags were marked with a yellow sticker of $24.99 in a stack of "on sale" sleeping bags. When the sales clerk rang up one of the bags for $29.99, I questioned why there was a price difference. As I was asking about the discrepancy, I saw her attempting to remove to yellow sticker before handing the sleeping bag over to me. I stopped her from taking the sticker off and she went to get her manager. The Big 5 "manager" let me know that a customer must have moved the price tags and that the real price was $29.99 (it's always good for business to blame the customers). I told the manger that it is not my fault that the items were improperly priced and that I think he should honor the price on the yellow tag (the price tag he was now removing from my box). The manger let me know that there is "nothing" he can do and that $29 was the actual price regardless of what the yellow sales tag read. I told the manager I just wanted the "right" sleeping bag then. He sent the sales clerk to get it for me and stood in front of my in silence. I watched him (2 ft away from me) as I was waiting at the register for the clerk to sort this out for me. He did not speak or acknowledge me for the rest of the transaction. No apology or concern for customer experience. I got the refund and left the store. In addition: They messed up a coupon I had. Refunded my $5 bucks in cash instead of back to the card I used to pay Sent me off with a snarky "have a great day" It wasn't about the five dollars. It's about doing the right thing for the customers and admitting when something isn't right. I have turned this location in to weights and measures and the BBB. I won't shop here again. read more

Went shopping here last week to get a new pair of running shoes. I had to use the bathroom before I started trying on shoes and when I asked where it was, I was told if I am not buying anything I can't use it. Then when I said I am here to get a pair of shoes the young man said well then it's only for employees. Very disrespectful staff. Never will spend money here. read more

I dig this Big 5! They have a great selection and I've purchased many different types of sporting goods here. They have a large selection of competitive swim suits, which I really appreciate. Some of the other sports stores in town actually stop carrying swim wear in the winter. So dumb. I've also purchased goggles, a warm sweater (that I've gotten so many compliments on), yoga gear, and work out clothes. The store is always well stocked and the workers are always pleasant. read more

I do like the prices I can find here. I got a sleeping bag for my son who sprung it on me like hours before he had to go. Of Course! and I couldn't find anything anywhere. So I remembered Big 5 and there where a lot of choices. I found one that was like 10F so for cold weather and my son said I work perfectly. And it was only 29.99 awesome price. Service was friendly quick and easy he even went in the back to find it for me. read more
