Staff is always friendly and helpful. They often honor coupons from previous days if I happen to miss the emails . Better deal on ammo than the actual FFL's in the local area (besides Ed's, which is closed /renovation/ who knows ). Disappointed that corporate chose to roll over and stopped selling rifles instead of refusing to comply with laws made illegally by a law enforcement agency(ATF)(unconstitutional/immoral/illegal). read more

I have shopped at Big Five Stores for a very long time. It was because of the stores return policies that has us sold. Well, so when my daughter asked for our stepmachine for her birthday, I ran it over to her, as it was practically new because we both had been unable to do see it. She enjoyed it two days and it broke on the tension knob which I thought I might get from the company that made it. I was not able to get through to the company. I thought I would call the store and see if they had anymore, explaining I had given ours to my daughter for her Birthday and it broke. I could not reach the company that manufactures it, and wondered if we could get it replaced. They also had no parts, but would exchange it if I wanted to drive over to Atascadero. It was a great deal and I had time to get it before they closed at 9 pm. They took the broken step machine and I paid the difference of $20 for the newer model they had in stock. Her Birthday present was immediately upgraded! And yes, I will continue to shop at Big Five Stores as I have for 30 years because their customer service continues to be superior. I came in to purchase a pair of tennis shoes. I was not wearing a mask and I was told I cannot come in without my face being covered. I felt insulted, embarrassed and rejected. I will go somewhere else to spend my money to purchase tennis shoes. I will no longer be given Big 5 my business. This is another store yet to use media politics to run their stores. To embarrass and reject their customers you come in to spend their money. So again I will no longer be doing business with Big 5 Sporting Goods for the wrongful policies of embarrassing their customers. Shame on you Big 5 Sporting Goods of Atascadero. read more

ugh. Don't bother with this store if you're looking for women's jackets. They have placed them ALL far above reach for customers -- only the men's are accessible on lower level. On two separate occasions on the same day (as I was desperate to purchase a jacket for trip tomorrow), no one was able to get even one of them down for me to look at, touch, try on (you know, basic shopping) as their pole was too short to reach the hanger. While waiting, I look back and discover store manager and sales person who was supposed to be retrieving a ladder for me just standing there -- as though trying to problem solve "how to help customer shop for jacket". Aren't you a retail store?? What a joke! Guess women's jackets are for display only. Not impressed and rated most ridiculous shopping experience. Will not be returning! read more

Really unimpressed with the customer service at this location. Went in to return an off-brand camelback that was defective and leaking and did not have a receipt so was only offered store credit, which I was fine with. However the store credit was for $15 less than I paid for it no more than two weeks ago and $15 less than the price listed on the actual tag on the pack, and despite showing my bank statement with the purchase. The manager said there was nothing he could as it was the "computer's fault" and offered to exchange for a new one. To which I responded no thank you, I don't want a brand new defective pack that is just going to give me the same problems. You're the manager - work on your customer service skills and work with me to figure out a solution that doesn't involve ripping me off $15 by selling me defective merchandise. read more

Just had a really terrible experience at Big 5. Just the other day I came in and looked at a rifle the manager told me that he could give me the sale price (15% off) if I really liked the rifle. I went home did some research and came down tonight do the paperwork and purchase the rifle however this same manager tells me he isn't allowed to do the paperwork and he couldn't honor the sale price. I went in looking for kettlebells and found them at a discount. When I went to the register, it was discovered that someone had placed the incorrect price tag on the set. Normally $100 they were marked down to $79 but the tag said $19.99. I thought it was a pretty great deal. Understandably, though, the manager could not honor the $19.99 price tag. But he did offer a decent discount off the sales price which I thought was pretty decent of him. The staff was very supportive and understood my view as well as the view of business survival in Atascadero. I agreed on the adjusted price. Will return to this store in the future for my sporting goods needs. read more

I usually come here to buy or check out exercise equipment or accessories. They do have decent selection, but they don't have everything. The shoe sales before school starts in September usually will offer you some great shoe selections! The staff are usually very friendly and try to help with questions. read more

I responded to an advertised sale at the Pismo Beach Ca. Big 5 Store. I was interested in purchasing 3 of the Ruger Mini 14's for use at my ranch in Nipomo, Ca.. The on site manager , Ryan , told me that they only had 1 in stock, but he'd attempt to have the other 2 shipped to his store and that he'd call and let me know when they were in the store at which time we would do all the transfer documents. A week later on 4/28/16, Ryan calls and leaves a message to call him at 805-743-1747. He tells me he's got them at the store , to come in and we'll do the paperwork, and to provide an hour to do it! When we started the sale, it began by me providing my driver license out of my wallet, I then began searching for my California DOJ Safety Certificate, Ryan saw a card I cary explaining Medical Canibis Law, he asked if the card was mine, I said yes it's like the card I carry explaining my rights to any police action, provided by my attorney, it's good information to have on his business card!! Ryan then told me that he'd need to contact his supervisor to see if he could proceed with the sale. Ryan also said that the CA DOJ Safety Card I produced had been replaced by another CA DOJ required Safety Card. I voluntered to satisfy the testing procedure to enable the purchase to proceed. After completeing the test , Ryan checks my answers , and proclaims to me that I scored a 100% , that I had answered EVERY question corectly. I purchased the DOJ Safety Certification and went home. Ryan calls on 4/29/16 and again asks for a return call. When I call, he says that he can't proceed with the purchase because he feels that having the lawyer provided information in my posession makes me a "risky sale, and he didn't feel comfortable making it". I said that I felt descriminated against for having "public information" I'd like the determination that was made in writing. Ryan said that "I can't provide you with that, You will need to contact Big 5 Customer Service to see if they would provide that". I called on 4/30/16, Big 5 Customer Service, 800-828-2994, after telling this story to a gal, she proclaimed that " I wasn't being REPORTED" . I said "reported for what, the PUBLIC INFORMATION I HAVE!" She also said "But I CAN'T PROVIDE YOU WITH ANYTHING IN WRITING". My advice to anyone, from now on, would be to find a business other than Big 5 for any of their sporting goods needs. If you want treated with great products, customer service, and honesty, go to Dick's , go to WalMart, go anywhere else , but do yourself a favor and dont shop at Big 5 Sporting Goods! read more
