I live in LA but stay here a lot of weekends. I've been on the hunt for a ukulele for the past few weeks, and wanted to keep the search up even while on vacation. I was looking forward to taking advantage of a new town to hunt through, but non of the other music stores are open on the weekend; really? Well, I'm glad it worked out that way. - Selection: Great selection. I know they carry basses, guitars, ukes, amps, etc. Not sure if they had another room in the back with drums, as I was pretty honed in on the ukes. They had a whole wall of ukuleles, and even larger selections in the guitars and basses. I had visited some music shops in LA that had maybe 4 ukuleles in the whole store. - Price: I found a uke I wanted for 2/3 the price I was expecting to drop, so I went ahead and got accessories and a nice case to round out the purchase. - Assistance: I'm assuming the man and woman that helped me were the owners, they were very knowledgable musicians themselves and had all the details of their instruments and makers on lock. Most importantly, THEY WEREN'T PUSHY sales people. They genuinely want to help you find the instrument meant for you. I walked in and explained I had a little experience with guitars but non with ukes, so she started me off with different pros about the different styles and he made sure I knew how to tune them and gave some players insight. They made sure I knew to come to them with any questions, then let me have the space to just quietly commune with the ukes. Perfect! The guy that rang up my purchase was also super personable and offered me info on lessons (which I'd take if I lived there!). Superb store, selection, and wonderful people! I'll be back if I need anything else!

I had previously purchased a guitar online and was very disappointed with it. (Duh!!) Also I can go in and have them adjust it, when needed, and help me with restringing it when one breaks. I now have two guitars, but the one I bought from Grand Central Music & Conservatory (An Alvarez) sounds sooo AMAZING and the price point was very similar to the one i bought online. very reasonable! I am so happy I found them! Thank you Dan & Cathy.

And the thing about customer service, you really find out how good or bad it is when something goes wrong. For years we would stop in every time we drove to the coast or Paso for some wine tasting. A little over a year ago on one of these trips we stopped in and found something that I had been on the hunt for years, a Marantz 2275. I just love the way these look and sound and this one looked pristine. Price was fair for condition and I was told by the owner Manuel that it had been serviced and had a partial recap. It was love at first sight and big shocker, my wife said "Get It!" (Did not see that one coming) Take it home, hook it up and it sounds great, had a few moments of buzz or something in the first few hours that I chalked up to "50yr old receiver" things. Then the buzz turned into pops and the receiver went into protect mode. Not good. I mess with it for a few days and finally call the store. I agree to drive it up and assured it has a warranty and will be taken care of. I and gonna montage this now. It goes in and out of service and problem persists. At around the 6 month point it's looking like this whole experience is going to be a bust. That's when Manual found another technician. Let's try this again, over the next few months it ended up getting a full recap and this thing should be rock solid, well it's not, the problem persists. And then the root cause was found. It took a long time but it is absolutely now as pristine as one of the can be. I want to point out some reasons why the is an excellent display of good customer service especially taking into account that it was a full year from start to finish. 1. Every step of the way, refund was an option. 2. I was given a loaner to use after the first service didn't go well that I had for almost 11 months. 3. In all but one drop off the unit was picked up and dropped off at my house 100mi away (think about that) Shad, the technician that Traffic Records is now using is very very good at what he does in an age when not many know what to do with vintage electronics.
