Had some work done on two guitars. Eddie is cool and kept in touch as the tech fixed my Ibanez and refurbished a MIM Strat for me. Guitars came out great. Only thing was it took a couple weeks + to get them done but that's not a big deal for me. He also has some great looking guitars there for sale. Check it out! read more

Local music store with a mix or new and used equipment, accessories, and drums, beginner electric guitars and basses, vinyl, and tee shirts. Friendly owner who greets everyone making sure all are acknowledged as they browse. It is challenging to have all that gear in a smaller space. Their location is excellent since they benefit from the foot traffic during farmers markets. read more

Not only did they fix my guitar quickly and impeccably ...the price was unbelievable. Cannot recommend them enough, the owner, workers and workmanship A+++++. I left Morro Bay in 2000. I lived in this "village" many, many years. And I went to Central Coast Music for strings and stuff. I even bought a used National double neck lap steel made in the 40's. Ed has owned and operated Central Coast Music for all this time, 40 years or so. Always great service, focused on the person, not the pocket. He recognized me when I came in the other day. He switched locations since I left, but it's still the same. So much has changed. The bank is a coffee shop, Mills is some health place. But Ed, is still here and everything is the same. I was home again! read more

If you want the best customer service in SLO county at a guitar store this is the place! Eddie is the nicest guy never rude and lets my son play guitar whenever we go there. Unlike another place in the five cities won't mention the name read more

The folks are so friendly and helpful. Higghl recommend. Great place for music equipment and supplies.

Nice employees, but totally overpriced records. $150 for a zeppelin record that you can get elsewhere for $15. Found a mamas and papas record in the store for $115 and walked across the street to a thrift store and found the same record for $10. Seems like the store is making prices based off of what tourists will pay not knowing that they can get it cheaper elsewhere. The prices just aren't even close to market value. The instruments in the store were fairly priced however, but they didn't have anything unique in stock. read more

Super nice and personable! I would highly recommend visiting. Masks are worn and sanitizer given.

I just bought my first electric guitar from Central Coast Music. The staff is so kind and helpful! Would recommend!

Eddie has given me the best service and great deals on all my musical needs for over 20 years. It should be your next visit for anything you need to keep on rockin down the highway! Happy holidays! read more

This shop is really a gem. Ed is really an incredible, kind, and knowledgeable individual. He clearly loves music, loves guitars, and is really a great resource. The shop itself is very well organized, and like any great vintage guitar shop, has a constantly revolving inventory. And they've got clothing! T-shirts and hoodies! If you are there, pick one up and wear it with pride! Such a great shop. read more

Want to know what kind of place this is? I'm in SLO at the Downtown Brew to play a show. We're opening for a popular band, and any musician knows when you're opening you are lucky to get a sound check at all. I'm setting up and I realize I have no tuner. Now, this is a real problem as I am playing in a duo with a brand new guitar which had not been set up yet, and needed pretty much constant tuning (not to mention the bypass quietness of the tuner) to get me through the set. I call my girlfriend at the hotel frantically, asking if my tuner may be in the car to, no avail. She races into action and says she will track one down (she's a good one.) She calls around to a few places, all of them closed. But she finds this place in Morro Bay, and the guy has an "emergency line" for musicians. An emergency line! We all like to think what we do is important enough to warrant local emergency lines, but this guy actually makes it a reality. Awesome. She calls and asks if she can buy a tuner real quick, and he asks her why the rush? And she explains the story. He says, well don't buy one if he has one at home, just borrow one. She rushes out to the guy's house and sure enough, he loans her a tuner -- no deposit, no collateral, just gave it to her and told her to drop it by the sho the next day some time. She even tried to foist $40 on him for the trouble, and he refused and just told her to wish me good luck at the show. Folks, what reason more could you need to support this guy? That's as cool as it gets. Are guitar strings a dollar cheaper at guitar center? Who cares? We could one day very soon live in a world without shops like this, and if we risk losing them to save a few bucks here and there then we don't deserve them. Me? I'm going to be spending my money at Central Coast Music every chance I get. read more

I'm jumping on this wagon with 5 stars! *Batman voice*: "Its not the review they need, but the review they deserve." OK, been here twice, met Ed(?) I'm pretty sure, so freaking epic in just how he greets you even when it was semi busy, the dude oozes super rare charisma. This second time we met his daughter. She was nice, and handled the shop well. Customer service gets the 5/5. We checked out their humble supply of left handed guitars for my mother this time. I liked that they had entry level and intermediate electrics and acoustics to choose from. I already decided on a trophy guitar I WILL purchase from here should my mother follow through on learning. Its a beautiful Luna acoustic. Speaking of beautiful, they have plenty of Luna and Dean guitars to choose from, most of which were gorgeous to the point I didn't want to test run them! My own folly, I know. I'm still waiting for that ONE guitar that'll tie my heartstrings around my wallet so I can then leave broke and extremely happy. And I'm pretty sure that when the time comes, it'll be a Jazzbox of some kind. They have a good supply of hollow body and more importantly, cigar box guitars. It seems with some music shops nowadays, hollow bodies are few and far between, let alone having the chance to run into some quality diddly bows. They also had a cabinet full of pedals. So, customer service: check. Selection: check. Atmosphere: check. This is my favorite and now go to music store. I live 3 hours away. That should say enough. read more

I've been going to CCM for at least 15 years now. Being from the area, I didn't know how good I had it. If I needed something, I'd go see Ed. Never thought twice about it. Then, I moved away for a few years. No other music store I've visited, whether it be a mom & pop operation (not many of those left), or a Guitar Center type, has been as willing to help find what is best for me. Many years ago, Ed told me NOT to buy something from him because he didn't think it was what I was looking for in the long run. I was confused. Happy he's being honest, but not used to that in a music store (or any store, really). So, he ended up ordering a pedal we agreed would be best for me, I waited, and it was worth it. Go in, look around, buy something, or don't. Any way you go about your visit, it's always a good experience. read more

There are so many great reviews on here it almost seems a waste of time, but I make the effort because Ed always makes the effort. He is 100% there for his customers. I've purchased 3 or 4 guitars, a few amps, effects pedals, hundreds of sets of strings and various accessories over the years and I will always choose Central Coast Music first. Anytime someone asks me about buying a guitar I tell them to go see Ed. Why? Because I trust him completely. It really comes down to this: Ed is a musician who loves music and loves that others feel the same way. He encourages this by supporting musicians and aspiring musicians. He's not going to steer you wrong or try to sell you something you don't need. It's just a great experience to go into a music store and immediately feel welcome and comfortable and know if you have a question you'll get an honest answer, the same straight up answer he would tell a friend. I felt that way the very first time I stopped in some 20 years ago and I feel the same way today. If you're looking to buy a new or used instrument, an amp, some effects, a set of strings, or anything music-related, I'll tell you the same thing I tell my friends: go see Ed at Central Coast Music in Morro Bay. read more

One of our favorite local businesses in Morro Bay! Eddie is just the best, and the selection of guitars, amps, etc. is always changing. Fun store to just hang out in for hours. read more

I discovered this place a couple of years ago while my wife was shopping in the neighborhood. It's a great store full of new and used equipment. The selection is modest but the guy who owns and runs the place is super knowledgeable, friendly, and very cool. He gave me some great advice on how to get the most out of my Laney amp, which they now carry. His prices are surprisingly very competitive to Guitar Center. Great place to shop if you are just starting out. Just wish I lived a little closer because I'd buy all my gear from him. read more

Stopped in to get some strings and to see if they would change the strings for me. They were fantastic! And the string change was inexpensive. But beyond the price, the customer service was outstanding. I felt like I made some new friends! They were down to earth with none of that too cool for you attitude that I've sometimes experienced at bigger stores (guitar center, for example, though I've also had some good experiences there). I will stop by this store whenever I'm in town, just to poke around and chat because they were that great! Several reviewers have commented on them being more expensive than guitar center. I think the cost difference is minimal and negligible when compared with the fantastic energy of the place. I will be doing as much business with them as I can. Truly a great experience! read more

The friendliest music store in the universe. I once moved there (to Morro Bay) because of Ed Frawley and his Central Coast Music vibe thing. I really did. Eventually I had to move back to LA (family), but this is without a doubt the coolest music store on the planet. You know it the moment you walk through the door - It just looks and smells right. They have a good selection of new and used instruments and gear, and Ed is the nicest guy ever. EVER. He's also Mr. Knowledge when it comes to guitars. "Hey, Ed! Look at this crusty old guitar I found in barn. Doesn't have any logos or markings on it. What do you think it is?" "Oh man, do you know what that is? That's a ... " Every time. He knows what it is. Never fails. He's a heck of a blues guitarist, too. I did repairs out of Ed's store for a few years. It was glorious. Only about 50% of the repairs were on guitars and basses, so I got to hone some skills on a wide variety of non-guitar but kind of related fretted, unfretted and sometimes maybe fretted what the hell is this something are you kidding me instruments. Ed has a great following because he treats everyone like they are his neighbor - as if he's known you for years. It's not just locals. You'd be surprised at some of the names that pop in there. Eyup. They all know and love Ed. I love Ed, too. read more

A great no-pressure collection of all stringed instruments. You can usually some characters rockin out like the 12 year old kid who goes between Kill 'em All by Metallica to a Bob Marley reggae riff. A wide assortment of accessories, including pedals, strings, music and anything else that suits your fancy. They have both new and used instruments so check around carefully and you will find the ax that is calling you. read more

Super helpful and very knowledgeable. Ed really cares about what he does and he's doing a great service to the community. Won't take my business anywhere else. Thanks CCM! Plus...he's got a mini army of "I know a guy's" that can get you set up with almost any instrument ailment. My PA system that I love and use for ALL my gigs was spilled on in a drunken wedding fest and Ed set me to someone he knew and who would have thought!...there's more genuinely great people out there in the music world and Ed knows them all. read more

They are amazing. A must see place. They fix all kinds of gear too. They are a true service to this world we live in.

Awesome selection, great customer service, good prices. Thanks, CCM, we are pleased with our ukulele purchase!

These guys are awesome!! Felt very welcomed. I've been to some stores where they don't bother...assuming that we aren't serious shoppers. They have a great variety of ukuleles. It was tickled-pink!! They were super informative too!!! I don't live in Morro Bay, but vacation there when possible. Even still, I would make the 2 hr plus drive out there to have someone who cares so much about music and is also excited to share that passion to everyone and anyone that walks in their doors!! read more

Ed and his crew, including Butch, the guitar tech, are simply the best when it comes to service, prices, and professionalism. I have dealt with Central Coast Music and Eddie over the course of several years, including countless transactions; I have always been happy as can be with every one of them. As a guitarist, and, more Importantly, as a consumer, I rate these folks and the store as the best in my some 40+ years of experience! Ted Wise read more

Great store. The owner Ed has a good selection of musical instruments, accessories and service. Ed is always willingly to give you a good deal and frequently matches online prices. He also has a large selection of sheet music and music books. Musical instrument tuning and repair is also available too. It is one of the best stores on the central coast. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is its lack of higher end instruments. It is a perfect store for beginning and intermediate musicians. Which is precisely why you should go there. Ed will work with your needs to get you going in a lifetime of performance read more

Ed is great! I've been shopping there for over 15 years, bought 3 gits and some pedals and a lot of strings (what can I say, I like to play aggressive when my tender side is on hold). In fact, cool fact, they have DR multi-colored strings and Eddie recommended I might like to get them in Red, White and Blue for my 82 LP Custom/black gold hardware. Really got some great looks! His 'policies with people he trusts are nothing I have ever seen in retail sales, which I have been doing for quite awhile. Nobody beats Ed's service and gen-u-wine caring about his people, i.e. customers. I've never given anyone higher marks, and he deserves it. The central coast if very fortunate to have him on our side. Brian, the sound guy. Oh, and shredder.... read more

In this age of The Giant All Powerful Global Corporation Of Doom, it brings joy to the heart to know that there is still someone like Ed who really gets what matters. It's easy to find a music store with a great selection of gear and gizmos, but it is a one in a million chance to find service like Ed provides. CCM is a stalwart supporter of music and musicians of all levels. The staff are all great and very helpful while being very low pressure and letting you try out gear. Ed has been more than helpful with my bandmates and myself, allowing us to take out equipment for rehearsal and spend hours evaluating gear in shop. CCM is a musical and cultural treasure. I encourage everyone reading this to visit and experience for yourself the best music store I have ever encountered. And in 22 years of playing I've encountered a few. Thanks Ed! Ed Frawley is the first person you should go see when in the market for a musical instrument or piece of equipment. If he doesn't have it, he can get it for you. If he can't find it, you didn't need it. read more

I'd like to give this store a 3.5 (but I'm nice, so I round up). It has a fairly good selection and the man at the front was nice. It's lacking in more expensive instruments and tends to only stock the lower end (unless it's used). The only real negative about this store is that everything is covered in dust. This isn't that big of a deal, but it's always something that I tend to notice. The used gear, while not extensive, is always fun to poke around. read more

Well the reviews are RIGHT ON!! This place is totally awesome and I highly recommend it when visiting or living nearby, anytime I'm in Moro Bay this is my go to place. read more

As you can see from the other reviewers, Ed, the local owner, is the perfect guy to run a music store. Helpful, trusting and he's a long-time musician himself. His prices rival anything you can find online...he knows what items sell for out there and he is very competitive. If he doesn't have it in the store, he'll get it for you. And you can try it out and if it doesn't suit you, no problem... He really knows his stuff and will bend over backward to help you out. This store is a gem! If you're a local musician, you owe it to yourself and the community to shop here first. You just can't go wrong with Ed. read more

Ed is a customer service pro. Bought lots of stuff from him and his priority is making musicians happy, young and old. This place rocks, and I never hesitate to drive to Morro Bay if I need something musical, even though my own town has it's music shops. read more

This place has offered me the best music store experiences of my life. I am a hobby-casual kind of musician, but I play several different instruments and have had all kinds of experiences. I LOVE this place - they stock a lot of stuff, can talk to you about what you "really" might get - so you consider not just the option you came in thinking about but good (better, sometimes) alternatives. Ed is very cool. The other customers are a great mix of folks. You should visit just because it is here, if you happen to be in Morro Bay. When they close at 6, wander off to a watering hole. You'll be a better person for the experience. read more

I was looking for high end guitar for my guy and staff, I believe his name was Martin at this store sent me to a perfect place where I found amazing 12 string Martin. Thank you so much for being so friendly and helpful!!! read more

This is the kind of music store that you love to visit. The guy who owns it is super helpful and friendly. There is no snobbish "I'm a better guitarist than you" attitude. He welcomes anyone to pick up an instrument and freely play it. The store is crammed with all types of interesting music stuff and always has some very good used guitars for sale. When I asked about an amplifier, the owner gave good accurate info and even invited me to take it home and try it before buying it! Highly recommended for its laid back, friendly and helpful atmosphere. read more

All I needed was polish. That's all I was going to buy, but when I saw this 12 string Ovation hanging on the rack I had to have it. I knew how much I was willing to pay and was ready to play hard ball with the owner. No need though, Ed accepted my first offer (far less than the asking price) and made the sale. He even incorporated the tax into the price and I didn't pay a penny more than I had offered. Even if I didn't need anything, I could spend hours there looking at the architecture of the interior of the building. If this makes sense - Ed didn't turn what this building used to be into a music store, he fit a music store into what this building used to be. You have to see it. read more

I've known Ed for 33 years as a friend and customer. They just don't come any better as business man and human being. Always competitive in pricing and generous with help and letting a musician check out or test run their purchase. If you are not comfortable with what you buy, no problem, bring it back. A very unique guy indeed. He has helped me out several times when I've had equipment problems (loaners) with minimal charge for the trouble. Everyone around here knows he is the go to guy for anything musical. Long may you reign Mr. Ed supreme business dude on the Central Coast. read more

stopped in here while in Morro Bay, you know, just to check it out. WOW! i had no idea that there were such interesting and unique manifestations of the guitar and banjo. They have the usual, a heck of a selection, by anyone's standards, but then they have the unique; a banjo made out of a bedpan, a pay telephone guitar, Epiphone, Luna, Ivanez, Fender, you name it, they have it and in any configuration you could want. I wanted a certain type of electric guitar cord, the man had to go in back to get it, but he had it! What a wonderful place to visit and shop. i live far away, but will make it into this marvelous music emporium whenever I am in the area. read more
