The receipt that accompanied my order was illegibly scribbled on a sheet of paper. After taking the time to raise a cow fit for butchering, I expect the best quality butchering. I buy a couple every week. I split it with my chickens. My favorite thing about this place is that you can see the cows across the street, living their lives enjoying the pasture. I'm telling you, bring home a few filets. You will not be disappointed. Oh! And the skirt steaks are amazing on the grill. 10/10 all day. I usually buy 5 ribeyes and 5 filets a week. My husband and I really only eat red meat and we never get tired of the steaks. They carry a tallow face cream too, and I've been using it for about a month and have gotten so many compliments that I look rested! Someone even said I looked "radiant" Please support your local farms! Our families depend on these small businesses. It is so hard to trust the local grocery store. It is a bit of a drive from State College, PA, but it appears this is the closest traditional butcher to State College. Their prices are about the same (some cuts were a few cents to a $1 cheaper) as a grocery store and it appears they have bulk specials. The lighting nor the signage inside was very good, which made the first time going here a bit confusing/overwhelming. They have fresh sliced and freshly grounded meats (pork and beef). They do have some chicken products, deli meats and frozen fish. It looked like there is a case for fresh fish, but there wasn't any fish in the case when I was there (which was weird since it was the week before Christmas). The staff was very friendly and almost too fast. I haven't tried the ground beef and pork I purchased just yet. But if it's good, I may consider going out there every now and then.

Every time I'm there I get one of their perfectly marbleized roasts, some great beef sticks (sweet and black diamond are the best in my opinion), and whatever else looks good!!! It's a LITTLE BIT of a hike from my normal route but worth the drive in my opinion.

I cannot think of any reason to do that other than increasing the weight. I had to use a paper towel and dry off every piece as I took it out of the package. See the pictures below. You can see the puddle of oil on the meat. You can see the oil stained on the paper towel I pressed out of the piece of jerky . Also check out the before and after pictures of what it looked like after I dried off the right hand piece. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Buyer beware.

There are many things worth noting about this store that are good. There was marginal mask wearing by the employees, about 50%, and about 25% by the customers. Both groups are thus inconsiderate, to themselves and to their customers, and to the related area. Mask wearing is a super easy way to reduce the spread and help us get back to work and play. It saddens me that in this somewhat christian area, known for its churches (many Mennonites work there, and Mennonites and Amish shop there, you can recognize them by their clothing and lack of mask), that they are not being kind, Christian, nor sensible. What would Jesus do? He would wear a bleeding mask. I did speak with the manager who noted that workers had been reprimanded. But within sight of us were two workers not wearing their mask close to correctly! One if left to ask, do they believe in food hygiene even, then? do they believe in food safety? If they won't follow some of the most necessary and visible public safety rules, what do they do when we are not looking? Do they "believe" in cold chain? Do they believe in the pathogen theory of disease? I guess I'll go back post pandemic, but I did lose a little faith in humanity in that the manager (the manager!) felt powerless to enforce public safety on her own employees. I cut my visit short, reported them to the PA Department of Health, and wrote this review. I will also have to be less sympathetic to groups of folks that do not support public health. I left sadly disappointed.

Turn left and continue to 655N to Belleville. Turn right on Walnut street. Stay on Walnut until you come to a stop sign. You will be facing a mountain. Turn left and about 1/2 mile down the road turn right which will take you to Peights. Enjoy the bear alley.
