Just passing through - what a treat to discover this lovely spot with a dog friendly patio. The staff are attentive and enthusiastic in the best possible way. Garrett was helpful and knowledgeable. The halibut was impeccable! OMG - sublime. Blind Enthusiasm brewing company purveys a fabulous selection. Gorgeous environs. What a gem ! Check it out.

I wanted to enjoy myself but the waiter seemed to be a self-trained newby. Every thing he knew he learned from waiters on tv. When I asked for gluten free options, he recommended the chicory salad. When I asked him about the mushroom and squash dish, he professed to have asked in the kitchen and found it gluten containing, but without offering and alternative. He didn't offer an alternative to our artisanal bread, either, which came with a significantly sized piece of wood. Literally it was the size of the end of my little finger. I took a photo. You can see the bread crumbs sticking to it. My fellow diners didn't want to make a fuss but I took the photo. My entree came so late they comped it for me. Not the place it was when it opened

I've only been twice. Once on a weekend afternoon and once at the after-work hour. Both times I've sat on the patio. I find the inside a little loud. The patio is comfortable and good for people watching. The first time we were there we had the sourdough croutons, they were the main reason we wanted to go back. The croutons are big and look hard but are crunchy and soft. They're hot and buttery and just oh so good. Lots of cheeses and beer to choose from. We had the potato pasta and the something hen mushrooms, among other things. There is street parking. The server we had was knowledgeable about everything on the drink and food menu.

I decided to surprise my significant other with a dinner at Biera just because. Despite having worked at Ritchie for a bit, I never tried any of Blind Enthusiasm's beers that they brew in-house. They offer an array of choices and even a 4 piece sampler to try their most popular offerings. My favourite is the zestyzee which is a very light beer with slight banana flavouring. Their beer is definitely unique, that's for sure! The sourdough pizza really intrigued me with the sweet and salty flavour combo as it had apricot preserves as well as endives and fresh cheese. Surprisingly, it was very tasty and I'm currently trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. The beef short rib was tender and cooked perfectly throughout. I love the Japanese flavours with the seaweed and sesame being a standout. However, a good 75% of it was pure fat and while beef short rib is has a pretty high fat content, but I felt like the cut we got was extra fatty. Would I pay $44 for it again? Probably not but I don't regret trying it. All in all, Biera definitely stands out with their unique dishes and unique brewed in-house beers. I would definitely come back again for a drink. The patio is also heated all around if you are worried about coming in while it's a bit chilly outside.

Ever since Biera's opening in 2017 they have solidified themselves as one of the best restaurants in Edmonton. Not only are they a cornerstone in the incredibly hip Ritchie Market but they have capitalized on the decade's rise of the micro brewery. My own little personal connection is that the restaurant's owner, Greg Zeschuk, was one of the original founders of videogame developer BioWare - the company that my husband has worked at for a total of eleven years. Upon his exit from BioWare, Greg got way into micro brewing (as one does), and so began Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company and it's restaurant Biera. To say that the accolades have piled up is an understatement. Biera is easily one of the most decorated restaurants in the city and has received country-wide acclaim. (Meaning that I've been counting down the minutes until I got to try it for myself!) Canada's 100 Best Restaurants placed Biera at #32 in 2018, #61 in 2019, and #53 in 2020. They were a nominee for enRoute magazine's Canada's Best New Restaurants 2018. Avenue Magazine called them the Best Overall Restaurant 2019 and the Best Overall Restaurant 2020. And CBC Edmonton's Best Restaurants 2019 named Biera as the Best of Old Strathcona and Ritchie. It's quite an impressive list for a humble little spot in Ritchie. Ritchie Market itself (featuring some of the city's top names in food and drink) has really revitalized the neighbourhood, from an area that was easily overlooked to one of the coolest and most desirable corners of the city. Inside its walls you'll find Biera, a restaurant encased in glass and marked by a blue neon-lit sign. I visited on a Wednesday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday, both of us excited for an evening of culinary adventure. We were seated immediately and the friendly and informative staff took excellent care of us. The space feels industrial, futuristic even, yet comfortable. Towering stainless steel brewing tanks are located around the room and cinder block walls climb their way up to the high ceiling. Warm tones of honey-coloured wood brings everything back to a more approachable and familiar place. Being in a brewery, the obvious thing to drink is beer. However, being that I'm not much of a beer enthusiast, I was happy to find plenty of other options on the menu. (My husband on the other hand, had the Preset Sampledoodle, a flight of four different Blind Enthusiasm beers brewed right in the very space that we were sitting. I loved seeing this as an option!) For me though, I'm more of a cocktails and cider girl and connected right away with the Domaine de la Minotiere Cidre Brut (150 mL glass - Normandy, France - $7.00). This cider and it's amber hue was everything that I want a cider to be, truly. Crisp, a little bit sweet, a little bit tart, with just the right amount of fermentation funk to it. Absolutely wonderful. The food at Biera, helmed by Chef Christine Sandford, is meant to be shared. I particularly love doing share plates with my husband because we like all of the same things and we both enjoy eating everything. As such, we devoured the menu, picking out each offering that caught our eye - and we ordered them all! I had heard that the sourdough at Biera is notably special and was sure to order dishes that included it. First to arrive was the Smoked Sablefish Rillette (Fennel, white beet & sourdough crackers - $13.00). One of the main things that captured my interest about this plate is the use of fennel, a vegetable that I'm currently obsessed with and that is highly underrated. Underneath the fresh, acidic, and dill-infused nest of fennel and beet laid a bed of tender white sablefish. The fish was deliciously smoky and incredibly creamy. Using a crisp, buttery sourdough cracker as a vessel, the whole combination danced in my mouth. For me, this may have been the best dish of the whole night. It was sublime. Next to arrive was the Wood-Fired Peach Salad (Endive, preserved lemon, red onion & pistachio crema - $17.00). If any of the plates were to win for being the most beautiful, this one is certainly taking the prize. The colours were simply gorgeous. I loved the idea of roasting the peaches, a fruit that can hold up to such treatment, caramelizing their beautiful juicy sweetness. I really enjoyed seeing endive used in this dish, another vegetable that I hardly come across. This salad was a play on bright freshness combined with deep flavours and texture. The pistachio crema was rich and silky, almost creating a curry-like vibe. Very unique! Another dish that I'd heard must be experienced is the Grass-Fed Beef Tartare (Smoked beef fat, horseradish, spicy greens & sourdough toast - $24.00) and I am not one to miss out! I was immediately impressed by the innovative way that this dish was presented. Instead of the traditional raw egg yolk sitting atop the tartare, they have created a creamy emulsion with the yolk that added even more decadence to the experience. The perfectly tender morsels of beef

I eat out daily. 2 pm Sunday afternoon, we are NOT taking walk-ins. Way too much attitude. I like the Ritchie Market concept, but Biera meh. I was told the beer was average, so no loss.

I came to Edmonton for a three day trip. My first meal was at Biera, highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, Its Sunday hours, which is only 1-5pm, so we were only able to try the afternoon menu .The interior was beautiful. Since it's a locally beer brewery, you can see many huge tanks along the wall and pipes, also a gigantic ceiling fan. We had Kohlrabi Rolls, bite sized portions and the texture is very interesting, crunchy outside and soft fresh cheese inside, presentation lovely. The Blooming mushroom was very crispy and had a very tasty dip. Berkshire Pork Rillette on Toast was a little bit too salty and the bread was burnt, but overall I'm still very happy to come to to try out this cool place. We also got the chickpea pancake with verde salsa, yummy but not for those who can't handle a little spice.

This place is awesome! I love going to pubs in the city and enjoying a nice cold beer with friends, but I've never been a fan of pup food (burgers, nachos, wings, fries etc.). This place had a great beer selection and amazing high quality food that's beautifully presented. Win win! I went here for lunch after seeing their instagram photos and reviews on Yelp and wasn't disappointed. The space had a cool vibe with high ceilings and you could see all of the brewing equipment. Staff was friendly and very helpful with explaining the menu. They also do brewery tours if you time it right. We shared the cauliflower and old amsterdam cheese tartlets and the ploughman's lunch (canadian cheeses, mustard, house-made piccalilli, pickles, marinated eggs, meuwly's honey ham, and house-made cheese and onion sourdough flatbread). Although delicious, I found the tartlets to be a bit pricey at $9 for how small they were (2). We also enjoyed some of their beers - we both loved the Calmont Ale. They don't serve coffee, but you can walk over to Transcend and bring it to your table. I'm interested in going back, but for dinner next time!

While the portion to price ratio are borderline questionable, the uniqueness and flavor of the food is really a pleasing experience. Our server recommended that we order 7 or 8 dishes for 5 people to share. We opted for 6 dishes, and it was just enough. If you have a group with big appetite, you'll definitely want to order a bit more. All of the dishes had exceptional flavours and textures. My fave would be the beef tartare with sour dough, the ricotta dumplings, the squid, and the Korean style short rib. Honourable mention to the chicken (but severely overpriced), and I'd pass on the B.C. lobster mushrooms. Overall, I definitely recommend Biera. Just don't starve yourself all day for a big dinner, unless you want to really go all out $$$.

This has been my one of my favourite restaurants in Edmonton and the one I always recommend to other friends. Never felt disappointed but this time. It has been a while since my last visit (about half a year). Still very busy, but the menu was expanded. Beef tartare is our must-order dish. The quality was the same but it seemed the portion was smaller than before. We always like to try something new from the menu. This time we tried the charcoal grilled squid. When it was served, my eyes and nose immediately felt the sense of delight. Starting from tasting the seaweed aioli, I like the creative idea, but it tasted a bit fishy although there was a hint of pickle juice or red wine vinegar. The peppery nasturtiums almost numbed my taste buds and I had to rinse my mouth before tasting the squid. The squid was a bit burned, with soft and slimy taste. Risotto was even disappointing, which was super salty. We told the waitress immediately. She took the dish away without any explanation... Anyhow, having beer here is always safe pleasant. Will be hesitant next time before recommending the place to friends.

This trendy brewery first caught my eye when I was visiting Transcend Coffee in the Ritchie Market. Although the place looked cool, I didn't think too much of it until I kept seeing these amazing food photos on Instagram. Through Instagram, I learned that not only is Biera home to Blind Enthusiasm Brewing, but they also make their own sourdough bread. Amazing! My friend and I decided on as many sharing plates as our stomachs could handle. With the help from our amazing server, we decided on: Biera Sourdough (of course!) P.E.I Scallop Ceviche (the infamous dish that caught my eye on Instagram) Yogurt Gnocchi ACME Day Aged Beef Minute Steak Goat Kefir Curd Tart The food came out in perfect timing, starting with the Sourdough, uniquely made with house-made kefir butter. This was followed with the scallops. The scallops were cooked to perfection and it was paired with the most unique flavors - rhubarb, red chili oil, apple & purple shiso. While this was definitely good, the unique flavor became a bit overwhelming as we finished the dish. It's a dish that was a wonderful experience, but probably not something that I'd ordered again. To me the star of the show was the Yogurt Gnocchi. The Gnocchi melted in your mouth, it was amazing. When I come back to Biera, I'm ordering this again..but keeping it all to myself. The steak with leeks was also very good. Again the steak was also cooked to perfection. It was tender, buttery and smooth. It paired amazingly with the garlic and leeks. For dessert, we got the Goat Kefir Curd Tart. I'm typically not a tart person but this was delicious. The tart wasn't overly sweet, it was light and refreshing. It paired wonderfully with the blueberries & toasted meringue. Food presentation is everything here, leaving Biera to be an incredible trendy yet casual dining experience. I'm looking forward to visiting this restaurant again!

Biera is a local brew pub located inside Ritchie Market. Blind Enthusiasm is the brand name behind the brews, Biera is where you can go to enjoy the beer as well as locally sourced and crafted small plates. Ritchie Market also houses Acme Meat Market and Transcend Coffee. These two wonderful local producers are used in the menu for Biera. Not your normal "gastro pub". This is a great date night because the menu is based around plates for sharing. They have won awards for "best new restaurant" on their first year and continue to win accolades. The team is passionate about their beer and their food, and it shows! The ambience is a little higher class than a normal pub. I love the funky, minimalist, up-cycled "industrial" feel of the decor. It is a very community based atmosphere. It has a bit of a hipster vibe. Reservations are recommended; this place is popular. Sample flights are available if you can't decide what you want to try, or just want to try it all! Chef Christine Sandford is the creative force behind the menu. Culina Mill Creek and De Superette in Belgium are a couple of the places where she used to create. You can see the European influence on the Biera menu. Locally sourced ingredients on the menu include: Prairie Gardens, Vital Greens Organic Dairy, Acme Meat Market, Bonjour Bakery, Effing Seafoods, Meuwly's, Galimax Trading, Mo-Na Foods, Grain Works, August Organics, Seasons Harvest, Blue Hour Tea, and Color de Vino. Good food that is locally sourced is going to be a bit more expensive. Be prepared to shell out about $50 per person for a couple of drinks and food. That being said, it is worth every penny! The presentation is absolutely stunning and the food is amazing and delicious. The menu choices are a very unique selection of textures and flavours. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable with the beer and the menu. They have the best tartare that I have had the pleasure of eating in this city. A blend of various cuts, including the heart to add texture, and flavour. It is made even more delicious by a ring of smoked, rendered fat around the mound of meat. If you are a fan, try it! I hope that you love it as much as I do. We also tried the Boudin Noir with Pink Lady apple, rosehip and oxalis. This was also beautifully plated and delicious. It is a version of blood sausage. This paired very well with the "ZestyZee" with banana and spice notes. Upstairs is the "Barrel Room" dedicated to melding beer with the flavors of wine and spirit barrels next to The Community Table, a room reserved for special events, with charities being a particular focus. Located just blocks away, "The Monolith", a brewery and barrel house designed from the ground up to create barrel-aged sour beers via spontaneous fermentation. If you are a beer person like myself, this is an awesome place to enjoy some very creative brews!

    Nice place!!!

I got the "dirty shiddy martini." Then we moved to our table in the "rumpus room." The menu is no-frills and straightforward. Not a ton of options, but you're there for a burger! They have vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options to make everyone happy. We each got a burger Alabama style, split some fries with "flat sauce," and added a giant pickle on a stick for shids and giggles. Delicious, it all hit the spot! Staff is friendly and quick. It will be busy when you go so just enjoy the experience!

I have been in the restaurant/pub industry for most my life. This is a pub not a high scale restaurant. Clearly about making money and will not get my business or recommendation again.

I love the muffuletta sandwich (which in Edmonton is hard to find unless you buy the stuff and make it yourself). This pizza included red sauce base, house giardiniera (olives, capers, celery, red pepper, cauliflower, shallot and carrots), mozzarella and provolone cheese, mortadella, capicollo, Genoa salami, and prosciutto. It was finished with red wine vinaigrette. We also tried the animal fries which are their house fries with beer cheese sauce and griddled onions. I am not a huge fan of mustard, so a skipped the ODD sauce and instead substituted this with the spicy queso sauce. Great selection of beer. However, I am on medication where I shouldn't have alcohol and was disappointed that they don't have any near beers available. I understand that it is a huge production to brew it, however, I think that perhaps some cans of another company's could be available to drink. I instead got a fruit spritzer which was fine, but with pizza a beer would have been so much better. Our server was friendly and helpful and our food came quickly. It was really tasty. Nice crust on the pizza and a decent amount of toppings. Fries were yummy too. Great cut on the fries, loved the amount of onions on it and the queso cheese was good, but for the upcharge I would have liked better. Pretty basic in terms of ambiance. Had that yuppy looking steel and wood vibe feel. Not comfortable seating at all. I may not come here with friends because it doesn't feel like a place to relax. However, it looks like they do have a nice patio which would be enjoyable. Check it out! Especially if you can drink the beer,

This menu is meant for sharing. We decided to split some dishes - the tuna crudo, the meatballs with grilled foccacia, and the cauliflower. There was some hits and some misses. The hits first - tuna crudo was great with fermented mango, coconut milk and sesame crackers. Fresh and exciting. The second one I loved was the meatballs. The sauce was amazing and meatballs were full of flavour. Make sure you order the bread to soak up all the sauce. These two I would totally recomend. The two that were disappointing was the cauliflower. It comes as a whole head and the idea is that you cut it into pieces. So the sauce doesn't really penetrate the cauliflower and the sauce was okay but seemed to berry forward. The pizza was worse. Barely any toppings except an obsene amount of arugla which didn't add anything to the dish. I had three peices and there was only two measly small peices of chicken. It also lacked flavour. Skip these. Saying that I would come here again to try some other things. But save your stomach and don't order the pizza.
