I'm in town for the Tour de Cure ride and realized I didn't bring any nutrition. So I stopped in because it was the closest bike shop to my hotel. I'm SO glad I did! The shop is clean and organized. I had no problem finding what I needed...and then some! But the thing that will bring me back when I'm in town again next year is the customer service. Travis rang me up, gave me directions and advice on the Napa Vine Trail and I was out of the door and on my way. As I was preparing to bet on my bike and ride the trail, a young man rolled up on me. He asked me if I lost anything when I left the shop...like money. I had dropped cash on the floor as I was getting my debit card. TRAVIS rode his bike to the Park N Ride and gave me back my lost money. Never in my life...that's unreal and awesome customer service. Thank you Travis. read more

Been in here 4 times across the last few years - to buy bicycle parts/ accessories only. It is near my home and the most convenient bike shop I could go to. I like to support small, local businesses rather than "go online." However, I went in today to buy two tires for my mountain bike. I was the only one in the shop. Two sales people were busy talking to each other behind the counter. Now for the 4th time I received very poor customer service (see details below), but persevered and finaly got the tires I wanted. As I reached for my wallet I wondered "Why has doing business with this shop always been so painful?" and more importantly "Why am I giving this shop my business? It simply hasn't earned it (aside from location.)" I put my wallet away, and informed the sales staff that I was not going to conclude the sale. Once more the customer service was extremely poor I walked out, never to return. (Went across town to Napa River Velo. Got immediate, informed, attentive care from their sales staff - beginning with a welcoming "Hello" when I came in. Wow!! What a difference.) My expereince with Bicycle Works sales staff: (Typical of each visit.) - No attention given as you enter. No "Hello" or "Welcome" - Staff too busy talking to one another, or two who are serving one customer (as I wait); - Insistent to enter me in their customer data base, despite my protests that it is not necessary. (I finally succumbed and gave bogus info.) - Staff running at about 80% energy level. Slow to serve you. Slow in answering Qs. You give them guidance on what you want - they need you to repeat it, or they steer you a different direction. Exasperating!!; - Poor attitude. They seem to think they are doing you a favor to redirect themselves from what ever they were doing when you came in to now be bothered serving you. Yikes! What a model of customer service?? So....... "Ughh !!" is the word. Really Bad. The owner needs to re-staff and/or retrain (if that would be worth it.) Wont be back. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I've had a bike for a few months, got hooked, and ready to upgrade the bike to a new one. The store has a nice blue street bike for $1600. Went in to look at the store since it's only one block away from my house. When I went in this tall guy with a beard walked right by me didn't say a word. As I continued to walk around, their were a few people in the repair area, and 2 behind the counter. Nobody approached to ask if they could help me with anything, if I had a question or was I just browsing. That's such POOR customer service. From what I've read from other reviews, this isn't the first complaint about customer service. Owner should make sure that when a person walks in, a simple acknowledgement from his employees can go a long way. It's a shame, because I was ready to buy the bike, and upgrade other equipment , but I guess I'll be spending my money with Bicycle Madness on Jefferson street. Such a shame, I've seen that bike in the window for a while. Was it because I my skin tone was a little darker that I don't know what I'm doing or looking for? read more

Do their bikes last? YES! My sister bought a used bike that was from there, from someone else. The bike is now about 10 years old. It no longer looks great, but just got it tuned up after it had been laying around for quit some time, years in fact, so I could ride out to Napa College and back to stay green. It still rides like a dream. If I could afford a new one and felt the need, I wouldn't think twice about getting it from there. read more

I walked in with my 17-year-old mountain bike, the bike 4 other bike shops scratched their heads on when I asked to get my Shimano XT front sprockets replaced. Forget the guys name, but he looked at it, analyzed it, stuck some tool on it, and was like, sure, I can get you these. Wow! Really? You win, man! My new favorite bike guy. Needless to say, after they were installed, the bike was running flawlessly, until I jumped a curb, and my old-school Manitou shocks compressed and didn't uncompress! Sweet! I love it when that happens. So, took it in again, same guy gave it the stare down, was mumbling some numbers, and basically gave me the grave news that those shocks are no longer built, but he new some guy that could fabricate polymers for them for like $40 bucks. Wow. You're my hero dude. High five. Needless to say, once I get this old bike fixed, I'm buying a bike rack from these guys and then I'm gonna buy a new bike from them. They are masters. read more
