A wide range of clothing and homewares. The cafe used to be really nice and then seemed a bit grubby but they have since done a bit of decorating and new flooring so it is much better. read more

So when the Chimes came along, rather than fighting the much more modern looking competitor it just slumped into defeat and now is a bit of a sad shadow of its former self. It retains some of the old stores from its hey day, but for the most part, the bigger stores are in the Chimes. But I still like it, it was important to my childhood but the days of going to the back corner for Zodiac Toys to see what Thundercats they had in is long gone. These days of goths started hanging out the front I don't think they would bother to pull out the newly installed raises flower beds so that they'd have to move on as there wouldn't be anything to lean against. These days they'd just be welcomed.

What a great emporium this is! What a refreshing change to…read morefind a shop that sells quality clothes and all of them made in Great Britain! Whilst mostly being known as an outdoor clothing company they also sell a fine range of other clothes and footwear too for men women and children. Not the cheapest but the quality is outstanding. I can personally vouch that their wax waterproof jackets are indeed very waterproof. Whilst at a football match at Brighton and Hove Albions poor excuse for a stadium where on a foggy day you can't see the pitch and a rainy one you are totally exposed to the elements, after a full 90 minutes, plus stopage time and walking to and from the ground from where I had parked the car, the body area that my jacket covered was totally dry! I only wished that I had also had some of their trousers, boots, gloves, hat. This is a family owned and run business and well worth supporting. All their garments are made at their factory in the North East not some far away sweatshop. This brand is very popular with tourists especially as members of the Royal Family are often filmed wearing their Barbours' and Helen Mirren wore one in her portrayal of The Queen in the film by the same name. The staff are very knowledgable, friendly and helpful and will do their best to order anything not in stock. Well worth a visit whether a tourist or a local.
I've seen Hotter shoes online before, and pretty much thought of it as an old lady shoe shop. Plus,…read moreit seemed pretty pricey for some fugly old lady shoes. But then I won a £10 gift voucher and thought I might as well have a look at some point. Then I started having a problem with one of my feet and thought that maybe some comfortable old lady shoes were just what I needed, so in we went on Boxing Day. The shop only had a couple of other customers (but it had been much busier earlier, said the assistant), and we were really quickly greeted and asked if we needed help. I wasn't surprised to see lots of old lady shoes but then - there were actually quite a few I liked. Unfortunately of the 3 I wanted to try, they only had one in my size, but they fit well, were comfy, and I think they look pretty nice, too. They do run a bit wide but I have wide feet, so perfectly suitable for me. The shoes I got are a pair of black leather Chelsea boots with a bit of a brogue pattern on them. £85 regular price, £75 in the sale - so actually, for a decent quality leather boot, a really good price. 90 days to return them, too, and clearly if they fell apart even after, they would help out. The service was impeccable. Even my picky husband left with a pair of shoes. So yes, if you're young, or want a pair of shoes to go clubbing in, this isn't the place. But for a quality pair of sensible shoes, have a look. And if you're an old lady? Heaven.

A good shop for patient people!…read more This TK Maxx is quite large and has an upstairs with a home store and mens department. Downstairs is the womens section for shoes, handbags and clothes. You really have to be patient it can take hours trawling through the racks of clothes as nothing is really in the right order and if you do find somethign in one size you like - there is absolutely no guarantee that you will find it ever again let alone in a different size! Definitely worth going on an evening if open late as much better!

Okay so it might be last season's stuff but for people like me who shop for what suits them rather than what's in style, it's a great place to pick up good quality, well cut clothes for much less than high street prices. And it's not just clothes. They also have a home section where you can get beautiful home decoration items at a fraction of the price. Not to mention more basic items like sheets, kitchenware, duvets, serving plates etc. They also have a wide selection of toys and boxes of chocolates at discounts - very handy for gifts.
