f you want your child(ren) subject to micro aggressions on every level; especially race related,…read morethis is definitely the place for you and your child. Over the past six months, Barbara Morgan, her daughter Morgan Eaves, and most recently Layne Barter have intentionally engaged in racially subjective communications directly to the parents followed by a video to the children. Specifically, when communicating hair requirements for competition season Morgan Eaves so boldly pens the below communication to all parents directing styling of hair based on skin complexion. See below notations to "dark skinned". This was then followed up with an eyeshadow make up tutorial, from Layne Barter, posted on YouTube (has since been removed) detailing the shade of eyeshadow to use for "light skinned honeys" and "dark skinned lovelies". This video was posted to the dance team's Band social media site for the girls to watch and learn. Please note, because this video was removed after I voiced concerns, I was only able to chapter the cover page of the video-see below. When myself and other parents expressed concerns about the inappropriateness of the video AND the email, the owner Barbara Morgan responded "I don't see anything wrong with what was said in the video or in the email". In response, other parents continued to explain in more detail (almost to the point of begging and pleading) the level of inappropriateness of these communications to Barbara. In good ole fashioned biased style, Barbara resorted to posting a written statement on The Band basically telling everyone that the concerns of one individual(s) does not matter, and that the team is of the utmost importance. See below. Please note, there are very few African Americans or other minorities at this studio. At no time has she met with, nor has she since met, any of these families to discuss this very serious matter. In response, I withdrew my child and requested a refund. When I requested a refund, I was directed to an attorney she hired; where I received a refund of monies as requested. Again, there are only a few minorities at the studio. At no time has she, even as of the date of this writing, addressed this issue with those who remain. It's such a slap in the face and sends the message of I don't give a you know what about your you know what she refers to us as. In addition to this incident, I have witnessed Barbara interject herself in the middle of a sensitive family matter all in the name of making sure the child danced at her studio. There have been other instances of medical emergencies where the parent was NOT contacted. WHY? Because dance is of the utmost importance. After all whats a little breathing problem when in the words of Morgan "never let down your team".

As a divorced parent I lost the battle for where she dances otherwise she would not be dancing here. In fact the only reason she continues to dance there is because they are providing her FREE scholarship to dance there covering all the costs associated with the dance saving her upwards of 10k which is passed along to other parents unknowingly I just ask to be informed of what is going on and have been blocked and they have told my daughter they refuse to communicate with me regarding her welfare and well being and dance activities at the studio. I have gone so far as to get a court order for which they refuse to follow because I do lot want her to dance there. My advice is to stay away and find a studio that is inclusive regardless of disagreements. Because sadly this one is not Also have issue with kids bullying other kids and they not notifying go parents which has caused students to leave as well as they Rey to brush under the rug

One of South Charlotte's true hidden gems!…read more Owner/instructors Sal and Barb are the real deal -- they have terrific personal pedigrees in the world of dance, and the technical expertise they bring to instruction is on par with many (perhaps all) of the higher-profile studios in South Charlotte. Sal has quite a history of personal accomplishment at the pinnacle of DMA, and he has high standards for his dancers. The facilities aren't quite as fancy, and the location is maybe a bit out of the way for some ... but the flip side is if you want an ENTIRELY God-centered dance learning experience for your child, you have come to the right place. We have found the attire, the dancers' movements (in a world of sultry hip-hop gyrations, you know what I mean) and especially the songs to be exactly what a church-going family wants for their child. As a dad who greatly desires to shepherd his daughter's heart, defending her mind and soul from the filth of worldliness, I can say KDCC is literally a Godsend to our family. And our daughter LOVES it. These people love the Lord, and they love to dance at a very high level. Having had our daughter at a couple of the most prominent dance studios in South Charlotte, I can recommend KDCC without any reservation.

While the monthly cost at The Little Gym may be slightly higher, the overall experience is significantly better. My son is three years old, and like many children his age, listening is still a skill we're working on. I initially thought Perfect Balance would be a great place for him to develop new skills and improve focus. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. During one class, the instructor became visibly irritated when my son got distracted or didn't follow instructions. At the end of class, she had him line up with the other children to receive a stamp for participation. She even dipped the stamp in the ink pad, only to look him in the eye and tell him he wasn't getting a stamp because he hadn't listened. I understand the importance of teaching children accountability, but I strongly believe the instructor's approach was unnecessarily petty and inappropriate for a three-year-old. If she felt it was important for him not to receive a stamp, she could have spoken to me directly. I would have respected that. But having him go through the motions--only to publicly deny him a small reward--felt more like punishment than a teaching moment. Because of this experience, I ended our membership effective immediately. We will continue going to The Little Gym, where the instructors are patient, supportive, and understand that children--especially toddlers--have good and bad days. They work with him, not against him. One final thought for any parent considering Perfect Balance: my son also participates in Soccer Shots, where I regularly see other three-year-olds wander off, lose focus, or struggle to follow instructions. Yet, at the end of practice, those children still receive stamps and stickers--not because they performed perfectly, but because they showed up and tried. Why? Because they're three, they're still learning and that deserves encouragement, not shame.
