I like this place! I went in today to grab a few hefeweizen for the weekend but walked out with something different. To my surprise they are carrying an old favorite again: Pinkus! Last time I found it was over two years ago. It is one of the early "organic" beers and relatively unknown here in the US. It's brewed in Muenster, Germany (add an e when you don't have an umlaud for the u) and I typically enjoy it there on tap. Muenster is a great university town and there are lots pubs and students to enjoy their local brew. My departure from BevMo was easy as their staff are always helpful and extra friendly to open more registers when a few of us are waiting in line. read more

They are massively more expensive than Costco or any supermarket around. Like literally double the price. Beer selection is not any better than Vons but it's way more expensive! This is the only BevMo that I will go to because it is the only one that is clean and has friendly staff. I usually go in looking for something specific and come out with a lot more. Their 1 cent wine sale is pretty amazing and their selection of drinks is pretty amazing. I love that they will ship spirits to your house if you live in CA. If you don't, you can only get the wine shipped. I threw a holiday party and stocked up for it by coming here. They had all of my bartending needs and some great sodas that I didn't even think of getting in the first place. read more

This is my go-to spot when I need to pick up a nice bottle of wine for a special occassion or some seasonal beer for a party. I am pretty knowledgeable about what I want and I usually don't need assistance, but when I do the staff is always super helpful and willing to point out a nice selection that might suit your needs. I have gone to other stores where people are very helpful, but I find that Bev Mo's selection is better. I know Total Wine has a zillion things but I often find myself wandering around aimlessly like it's a museum of alcohol, everything is on display. EVERYTHING. I was pretty disappointed with the customer service that was given to me by Alyssa today on NYE. It was a little busy, people purchasing their drinks for celebration. At no point in time did Alyssa give me eye contact nor ask if I found everything. I gave her my phone number for my rewards card, it didn't pop up. I tried looking for a recent email and she said I couldn't use an email to locate my account. I ended up paying almost $30 more than I intended on buying because she never offered me a new rewards account. I would've signed up, had I been offered. My girlfriend and I went to go buy some beer that we couldn't find anywhere else. We went to the register and he scanned her card and then went to scan mine but I had to explain to him that I'm 21 but my ID is expired but the other one is in the mail. He refused to sell her the drinks because I was 21 but didn't have a valid ID. He said that she couldn't even go back outside and come in without me to buy it. Wine Tasting at Thousand Oaks BevMo: Probably one of the best experiences I've had doing the wine tasting at this location! And probably one of the best educational experiences as far a wines and beers go. Jacob is outstanding! Glad to have come to know him. Treats me more of a friend there, than a customer. He always asks me what I bought, which is important in this setting, wanting to know what the customers are buying is a good thing. Also I like how, people (the customers who are wine tasting) for the most part are very friendly and are open to sharing ideas because of the environment Jacob creates. They went from hero to zero in one visit. I arranged for Steve to order my favorite beer from their Pasadena location. He said he would call me the next day with the details. That call never came so I went in to talk to him. He apologized and said he would place the order and it will ship with overnight delivery. I never heard from him so I called the store again. This time I got a different Steve who is the store manager. After being placed on hold for 7 minutes, Steve comes back on the phone and right away I could tell he hates either his job or life, or maybe both. I explained my situation and he says, and I quote, "It probably isn't going to happen." Now, I haven't worked in retail since I was 16 but I'm pretty sure this isn't the best thing to say to a customer. He also tried to tell me I can order it online which isn't true with the beer I was looking for. I could tell he wanted to be anywhere but on the phone so I granted him this wish. I then called Bevmo's customer service line and was thankfully connected to Katie. She arranged for their Pasadena location to ship the beer directly to my door and was very polite and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. I told her what Steve had said and she was shocked that his answer was so ridiculous. If you are looking to special order something from Bevmo I advise you to call their customer service line and avoid wasting time with their incompetent in-store employees. I usually go nuts for BevMo, they have good deals with their 5-cent wine sale and the staff was really friendly and had a great recommendation for a Spanish Red Wine. However, I am rating this a three because of the fact they almost refused to let me purchase my wine because of an out-of-state license. I understand that many fraudsters use different states ID's but for one I definitely don't look like I am under 21, and I think it's a little much to refuse service! I know total wines just has double ID checks for out-of-state ID's. So just to let you know if you are traveling or an out of state student: they might not let you get your drinks! read more

My husband and I purchased around $2,000 worth of alcohol for our wedding last year from Bevmo in Thousand Oaks. They assured us that if we had any unopened bottles after the wedding ended, we could return them to any Bevmo location and get a refund. We got married in Moorpark. However, my family lives in Santa Clarita. When my husband and I went with my dad to return our unopened bottles to the Valencia location shortly after our wedding, not only did the Valencia store refuse to give us a refund, one of the employees who claimed to be a manager was downright rude and offensive to us. My husband called the Thousand Oaks store to complain about the situation, and their manager promised that they would give us a refund on everything if we dropped off the alcohol at their store...no questions asked. We had to make a 100 mile round trip to get a refund, but fortunately when we arrived to the Thousand Oaks location, all of the employees we encountered were extremely apologetic and kind. We ended up finding out that the woman who claimed to be a manager at the Valencia store was actually a worker in the stock department! To add insult to injury, she completely lied to us about her position in the company! I was very impressed with the customer service at Bevmo in Thousand Oaks. Not only did they price match with better deals we found, but they really made up for the treatment we received at the Valencia location. The main reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the assurance they gave us about being able to return alcohol to any Bevmo location. I don't think customers should be told they can do that when, in our situation, we couldn't. It was an incredibly inconvenient situation that I would have rather avoided right after one of the happiest days of my life! Other than that, I highly recommend Bevmo in Thousand Oaks. We purchased all of the spirits, wine and beer we needed for our backyard wedding at this location. We were planning the wedding from out of town, so we showed up the week of the wedding to figure out our alcohol purchase. (I recommend showing up at least a few weeks ahead if you're planning a large event locally). Steve's customer service was exceptional. He conducted a taste testing for us at the store to help us select the wines we wanted. He was also was able to help us calculate the quantities we needed of each type of alcohol based on our wedding size. He also set up a delivery directly to our house for us. A lot of the wine bottles were buy one, get one free. The only issue we ran into was that a couple days after we finalized our order, it turned out that they didn't have enough of the the red wine in stock in the region to fulfill the order. To make up for this, he offered to make up the difference with a similar, but higher quality (and much more expensive) wine for the same price on our order. We sent a couple of wine-snob friends down to test the wines and they found one they loved. One of the best parts is that they let us return unopened cases of wine and beer. This saved us a lot of money and is one of the major reasons we selected this location. Thank you, Steve, for making purchasing alcohol for our wedding such a breeze. read more

The manager Steve is very rude and condescending if you are a woman. I was charged twice for a transaction today. The associate who helped me was very nice but was highly distracted talking to me, didnt push the proper register keys to complete the transaction so we had to do it again and I think that's where the mixup occurred. So he needed Steve the managerI to fix it and he did nothing but talk down to me and told me in a rude voice "I'm sorry you're having such a bad day"! Rude of him to assume i was having any kind of a day. I was having a great day until I went in there. I will never shop there again. he made it sound like the double charge was my fault and my banks fault. I said well I'm gonna call my bank which I did and I was double charged. my bank credited my account while I was there. If you are buying anything for New Year's Eve don't spend your money here. Generally, I think BevMo is the greatest thing ever (which is the only reason I didn't give 1 star), but I will not go back to this location. The first time I went in, I wanted a bottle of champagne and a cigar from the case. I was in a hurry, so I was annoyed that it took them forever to come help me, and when they did, the guy who helped me didn't know anything about cigars. Okay, fine. Alcohol is your specialty, I won't hold it against you. The second time I went in was with a friend to buy ingredients for homemade liqueurs. Since the base alcohol generally gets diluted, we wanted the strongest vodka we could find so that it would end up being moderately strong. After some searching, we finally got some help finding the Everclear, and we went to the register to pay. As we were checking out, the old woman at the register started asking us about our purchase, so we told her we were making liqueur. She proceeded to lecture us about making limoncello (which we weren't making), and when we tried to verify that Everclear was the strongest vodka they had, she began to argue with us, and she insisted that they had vodka that was 100% alcohol by volume. We found this hard to believe, so we finished paying, and then went back through the store to look for this "100% vodka." The woman must have just gotten off her shift because she followed us back through the store and then triumphantly pointed to the Absolut100. We explained to her that Absolut100 is 100 proof, not 100%. She then argued with us again, saying that PROOF IS THE SAME THING AS PERCENTAGE!!! Are you kidding me?? First, don't argue with a customer. Second, if you don't know the difference between proof and percentage, you have no business working at BevMo, or anywhere that serves alcohol. read more

He not only chose great wines (he knows his stuff) but many were part of the famous 5 cent sale so he also saved me a great deal of money, while still purchasing quality wines. AND they delivered it, ready for serving. I was completely blown away and will always use him for future parties and for my own personal stash of wine.
