This location used to be good but it is definitely going down hill with the rude and inept manager(s?) in charge. Here is my recent and what is now going to be my last experience at this location:
I was at this location shopping for various items today 3/30/13. Two employees were chatting in the back wall of the store by the mixers--none bothered to help. I found what I was looking for after several minutes (roughly 15 mins). The two employees disappeared but another female employee--after helping another couple--came and helped me find what I was looking for (she seemed to be the only person actually working in the entire store).
I went to the wine section and again no one around to help--all employees except cashier disappeared. I went to the register to ask for help but the line was very backed up just to get a chance to speak to the cashier. So I went back to the wine section and traveled all isles looking for a wine for my wife, still no employees present (this went on for at least 15 mins again).
Finally I saw one employee chatting with a "customer" about non-wine/store stuff. I said "excuse me, I am looking for a wine, I think it is called Stella Rose; it's a sparkling wine" I was met by a glare and a rolling of the eyes because I had "interrupted" the employee's personal chat. The male employee begrudgingly showed me to the area where that brand was located and condescendingly and angrily stated, "It's STELLA ROSA, its RIGHT HERE!" All the while with the same glare, tone, and rolling of the eyes. At which point I said, "I'm sorry that I made you do your job but you don't have to get an attitude toward me" Of course he didn't like that comment and continued with some type of snide remark that I didn't catch as I was looking at the wine bottle he instructed me was the one I was looking for--of course it was not the correct bottle.
I told him "this is the wrong wine bottle, it's not a sparkling wine" At that point I got an increase in the glare, tone, and rolling of the eyes again! He then went on to again condescendingly and angrily say, "It's STELLA ROSA, it has 5 different kinds of bottles, which one were you looking for!" I had enough and said, "You know what it doesn't matter, I'm not taking anything anymore." I left my basket of items (about $100 worth of mixers/liquors plus 3 premium bottles I would have asked for from behind locked cabinets) on a wine box and asked to speak with the store manager.
He said, "I am the manager!" and began to walk away!! I asked for his name (it was Fred), I asked for his last name and he told me, "that's none of your business" I asked for his official title and again he said "manager" but when he saw my disbelief he corrected himself and said he was the "assistant manager" I asked to speak to the actual manager and Fred told me he was not in and wouldn't be back until Monday. Fred said to "ask for Steve" with no sense of worry or care to possibly being complained about to the manager.
Based on this nonchalant attitude I can only deduce that there is no accountability at even the store manager level so my complaint would be worthless there. To top it off when I did start to write down his info in order to complain to corporate instead, Fred told me to leave the store, didn't want me to ever come there again and threaten to call the police if I didn't leave--which I promptly did once I was done writing.
Two things are certain. 1)if the store management is running the location both in personnel management and customer service as was on display this afternoon then BevMo will soon be in trouble if not so already at this location. 2) I will no longer shop at this location again given the type of management and customer service that is in place there.
I've had better experiences in the Tracy location and for that reason I will not completely write off BevMo. However, it is truly disturbing that this type of attitude and lack of service is allowed to exist within management roles in one of BevMo's locations. read more
