We came by to pick up a Macallan 12, Redbreast 12 and a Johnnie Walker Double Black (gifts for my cousins in Seoul who love western whiskeys) and saved approximately $25 for signing up for their members card. Not bad. They threw me offguard when they carded my husband, too while I was making the purchase. I rarely shop at BevMo however I think this is the first time we were both carded when it's generally only the person making the purchase. I'd heard so much about Bevmo from friends, but missed venturing (ok, schlepping) to the one in Jack London Square on our last visit. Having just finished a trip to Trader Joe's I noticed the enormous Bevmo sign. Hallelujah! This will be a regular stop on our Bay Area trips as it's so easy to access from the freeway. From the sounds of it not all Bevmos are as shiny, clean and large as this one. And empty - though it was 3pm on the Monday after the New Years holiday. This let us leisurely stroll through every single aisle, and I exuded incredible self control, only coming away with a couple of European beers and a small bottle of absinthe. If all liquor stores were this appealing I'd be spending a lot more money on booze. read more

This BevMo! has a large selection of beverages. I am an avid German and Japanese beer drinker and they have some basic offerings on both. They also have a decent selection of whiskeys and single malts. Largely overpriced, of course, but that might just be California. Yet, their service is abysmal. To see their grumpy, judging faces reminds me of home (Germany). They are lazy, slow and have no oversight whatsoever. They don't know anything about their line of products, either. They only accept California Driver's License and a US Passport as valid IDs. If you are from another state, let alone another country, it won't stop them from furiously swiping your ID (even though the ID is clearly not from California/the US and has no magnetic stripe), repeatedly, until you make them aware of their foolish endeavors (the same happens when you hand them any other American form of identification, such as a Green Card or an EAD card). Obviously, they cannot reason through an ID they are unfamiliar with, since that would require brain power and alertness in the first place. So, the second act commences as they realize their carelessness by grunting at it, just to proceed by helplessly trying to seek backup by their supervisor who is the impersonation of laziness per se. When the seconds have turned to minutes and the minutes have turned to hours, they take a wary look at that mysterious document you have handed them. After amateurishly scrutinizing it, they realize there are no Sherlock-Holmes-Bonuspoints to gain on this 31-y/o-suspected-fake-ID-father of two, and they return it to you, in a mute manner. You thank the gods for having mercy with you to let you go after an atrocious experience at the liquor store and you remember to always pack an extra beer to numb the pain in your membrane. And just if you think, "well, don't by alcohol there, then!" Naaaah my friends, the same procession takes place if you just buy a coke because "at BevMo!, you and everybody who accompanies you need to be over 21 to purchase anything in the store, even if it is non-alcoholic or nothing to drink, at all"; actual quote. That means people, who don't purchase anything, need to be 21 years of age, too. Unless of course, they are little kids, they obviously don't mind that. They have a sign at the door saying they are hiring. Let's hope, for the benefit of every customer who sets foot into this convenient but pithily unpleasant hall of shame, they don't end up hiring zombies, again. read more

Not my local BevMo but they were the only ones that had the alcohol I wanted in stock. They had plenty and it even gave the option to pay & pick up. I decided to still drive there & sit in traffic. The customer service was horrible. No one there to help you. When I showed the cashier the item I wanted and that it showed it was in stock she didn't even bother to check simply told me they didn't have it. So I told her how is it that they didn't have it in stock but I was still able to purchase for pick up at that location for that same day & time I was there made no sense. She couldn't give me an explanation & told me to check else where because they didn't have it. Thankfully the BevMo in Pinole restocked earlier in the day & was able to make my purchase with their friendly staff. Never going back to that BevMo in Emeryville worst customer service. read more

In a pinch this store works. The IPA beer selection is minimal and OLD. I bought a 6pack of bottled beer and did not notice it was brewed in 2016. Something in the bottle had settled to the bottom of the bottle...it was disgusting. Ever since then I check the "brew date" or "best by" date and unfortunately there are alot of OLD beers on the shelf. They seem to have a rotation problem at this location as their various bloody mary mixes had the same problem. Old, Expired, different colored bloody mary mixes of the same brand ...Disgusting! Like I said....in a pinch this store is "just ok" but check the dates on the bottles....otherwise, go to Total Wine or Safeway on 51st and Broadway where they must have a higher amount of foot traffic, which means fresher product on the shelf as they need to replenish the inventory more frequently. read more

Tucked away in the corner, this location is often missed. It is the latest, but not greatest of the BevMos, due to a limited merchandising strategy which excludes most of the perishables (cheese..). It does however have a nice staff and all the deals you could need to help you impress your boss, or convince un' amore that you are THE one. The only reason this isn't a Five star is due to the limited perishables...but you can always go across the parking lot to Trader Joes for those. read more

The lady handing out orders last night was EXTREMELY RUDE! I was unaware that you had to place an order online. I'm waiting for someone to greet me at the door and it's like everyone is ignoring me. I peak my head in and the lady in black yells "YOU CANT BE IN HERE!" With so much attitude. Then she asks if I've been helped and I say no and she's proceeds to tell me I have to order online. As I'm trying to order online, the pick up date is scheduled for the next day. I let her know and she's like "you need to come back tomorrow". She was very rude, not professional at all, terrible customer service. Never coming back! Rather take my business elsewhere. Plus the looked very unorganized inside and unsanitary. BevMo always leaves me with mixed emotions. Part of me feels a little guilty for how much damage I do on my wallet every time I come here. The other part feels elated that I can buy all this booze under 1 roof...not to mention cheese & chocolate. Hello lovah! I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I'm about to be useful as hell right now so, listen up folks. They have wine-tastings here for 25 cents! No, that is not a typo, I don't lie about shit like this. I went in yesterday around 3:00 and was able to try a Gewurztraminer [that was not very sweet], some Vouvray [that was sweet enough to be a cousin to my favorite, muscat]. Then I had 3 Beaujolais that I did not like at all [think battery acid & vinegar]. I like my wine aged and these were 2008 and very fresh. I'm told this the proper way to enjoy this wine, but I hated it and used the lil bucket for bad wines to dispose of this crap. The last was a delicious Pinot Noir that I would have purchased had I not been pulling a muscle in my shoulder holding a hand basket with a buttload of bottles. You cannot tell me of any other product or service in the entire country that beats wine tastings for 25 cents! This place is one big corporate drug dealer and I am a faithful consumer [aka: drunk bitch] for all that BevMo has to offer. read more

This is about both BevMo as a corporation and this particular location. So...the boyfriend and I go in to buy a bottle of vodka and are pleasantly surprised to see their low prices. Then we wander over to the soda aisle to check out their root beer options (we've been on a root beer rampage lately) and grab about a dozen bottles from the extensive selection. Once done, we head to the counter where bf is going to pay for everything. We get to the counter excited about our root beer and he asks for a bottle of vodka that was locked up. They ask for his ID. OK, sure, you have a semi-weird policy asking for IDs from anyone under FIFTY. Seems a little extreme, and he's in his early 40's, but whatever. Then, they ask me for mine. This had me a little baffled since I wasn't buying, or even holding, alcohol but I said left my purse at home and I didn't have it. They say to him "Sorry, we can't sell to you. She needs an ID". WTF? He ask a few questions like "But, she's not paying for it. What if she leaves? What if I walk out and come back in?" "No, you're already on camera shopping together. It's the law." I pointed out it can't possibly be the law because we could go into a place like say...Safeway...and the person who's buying is the one carded. "Well, it's OUR law as company policy". "So when can I come back in to buy something?" "I don't know." "What do you mean you don't know? Tomorrow?". "Well that's a different story". It was pointed out these rules are "CLEARLY" stated on the front door. Apparently, white font at knee height on the front glass door is their version of clear. Obviously, they were not going to get our money but to make things much worse, as we walked out the cashier called after us "So, go to Safeway." I understand it's some stupid company policy to card anyone who walks up to the counter since "no one under 21 is allowed inside". In that case, they should be carding people at the door before they enter. I also understand this wasn't a rule made up by those 2 employees, but I expect a lot less attitude from them when they're explaining it and a better understanding of what their rules are such as when he'd be allowed to come back in and give them money. So, we went across the parking lot and paid a few extra bucks for the same vodka at Trader Joes where my boyfriend was the only one carded and the cashier was nothing but pleasant. read more

I used these guys for my wedding and while the alcohol arrived on time, and everything was cold (which is the most important thing!). I'd recommend going with another alcohol vendor if you are planning a wedding. The tasting session they provided was nice- but I felt like they were trying to hawk their 5 cent specials rather than providing a variety of choices to taste. Additionally, the tracking system for the order and order delivery seemed very outdated and definitely stressed me out prior to my wedding, especially because it was with a 3rd party shipping company. Anyways- everything did arrive as expected so I'm giving them 3 stars but in general I would look elsewhere for your wedding alcohol. read more

I also added that even though I have seen this bottle, I never seen in that sized bottle. "BevMo" He said "BevMo?" I asked "Yeah Bevmo... you can get anything there.. even stuff not in bottles. You can get water, cold drinks, soft drinks, mixers, wine, beer and all kinds of booze. You can also get coffee, candy, decanters, wine openers, cheese, fancy meats, sours, bar salt, caviar, cigars, even those hard to resist super sweet cherries." As he was rolling off his tongue "Caviar?" I Looking surprised "Oh yeah." He responded assuredly "Well I've been to BevMo before and you can get that other stuff. But Caviar? I don't believe you." And I thought he was pulling my leg. "for sure..lots of choices of them" he said "But I guess most people go for that Booze they have up the yin yang.. and not just your regular stuff, but bottle sizes for "Rogers" a kind of metal drinking container. You can get Rum, Vodka, Martini and Rossi. You can get hard to find wines and even limited bottling wines." "Caviar?" I asked again So I went to BevMo...sure enough.. Caviar... Store manager Promise was very rude and aggressive to my wife and me. Our day was ruined by her abrasive behavior. We're both in our mid thirties and she gave us a lot of attitude for buying vanilla cream soda, no alchohol! We still presented our IDs but she continued to attack us. It felt like an interrogation at a prison. She then asked for my ID again when I paid by credit card. I'm a software engineer in my mid 30s and I have never been treated that way anywhere. I will definitely go to other BevMo to buy soda and avoid Promise and the Emeryville Branch. read more

Great selection but horrible and inconsistent service. One day came to here with boyfriend stayed outside because we had our dog with us and didn't know if it was dog friendly. (I have a 10lb poodle) Second time going, I was waiting outside again with my dog and an employee told me I can bring her in as long as she was being carried, which was awesome. Third time going, again with my dog and lady rudely told me as I was already carrying her said no dog allowed yelling at me. Just was confused with the service, one day I can bring my pet the next I was not able to. This location needs to get their s*** together, I've gone to other bevmos and they have been amazing and allowed me to do my beer shopping with my pet as long as she is getting carried, which I usually use a doggy carrying harness. read more

Just ordered SO MUCH booze for our wedding and BevMo did not disappoint. Helpful staff were so patient with us as we figured out what to order and in what quantities. Our caterer asked for a more specific delivery time than BevMo can usually guarantee and the Emeryville store made it happen. Especially love that we can return the extra wine that did not get consumed. Special shout out to the manager, Ric, who was amazing. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst times I have had at Bevmo. Went inside with my dad today and when we were ready to check out, the cashier asked to see both ID's. I showed mine since I was 24 years old and paying for the drinks, but my dad did not have his wallet (since he was only there to help with the beer selection and being 32years older than me didn't believe it was necessary). We were both rudely told by the cashier that if my dad did not have his ID we could not buy anything. My dad, decided to walk out, since we already made the trip for beer. But I have never seen a cashier treat a customer so badly. She acted as if we were idiots for thinking my 56 year old dad could pass for 21. This review is not about any particular Bev&More outlet. I've shopped at several in the SF Bay Area for many years now. I've always found the staff to be effecient and courteous. No problems on that account. My issue is about the quality of the wines they sell and the price of their spirits as well. First off, it is not possible to purchase even a single good bottle of wine at these establishments. Every single bottle of wine they sell is plonk or a terrible vintage from an established vintner. I only recently came to realize this when conversing with vintner friends in Napa and Europe. Bev&Mo is where they go to unload their worst vintages that they would otherwise have to dunk. This is obvious if you actually drink ANY wine sold by Bev&Mo. RE: Spirits The prices are terrible. You can purchase any spirit sold at Bev&Mo for a fraction of their cost at COSTCO or Safeway, let alone your local mom and pop liquor store. And that includes the pathetic 5% coupon that Bev&Mo emails you if you spend $200 or more. Bottomline: Bev&Mo is for suckers. Just sorry it took me so many years to finally figure this out! P.S. Bev&Mo sells other non-alcohol products and I have no opinion in that regard since I only shop (or rather, used to) for alcohol at their stores. read more

Today I was driving by BevMo after shopping at Trader Joes & noticed a line out front, indicating they're open for business. I waited online for about 25 min, grateful I had my phone & made a few calls to friends but as I got closer to the entrance, 2 people who were in front of me, spoke with the BevMo rep who was out front letting people in, & than these customers just walked away? Finally a few minutes later, she, the BevMo rep yelled, "only online orders"? I asked her if I could order from my phone & she perkily said, "sure, but you'll have to pick up your order tomorrow." Thinking about this, & realizing I just waited on line for over 25 min, I asked her, "why don't they put a sign on the window letting customers know you are only accepting Online Orders?" Simple right, a sign that reads, Only accepting Online Orders, how hard is that...? She didn't think it was a good idea...? Wow, some really, really not so smart people on the planet, shop somewhere else, the staff at BevMo in Emeryville clearly don't care about their patrons! read more
