But on this day, something seemed so incredibly cruel. I knew that I was greeting you, my beloved fur family member for the very last time. Only a short while ago you were that cute bundle of energy being chased around the house with a shoe or a wallet or a piece of junk mail in your mouth. You never met a soul, a treat, or a ball you didn't like. Slowly, then all of a sudden... I noticed you wearing down. Sometimes I had to lift you into or out of the car. You no longer wanted to chase the squirrels or bark at passers-by or walk as far as you used to, but that's OK. The love between us was strong and never wavered. In good times and bad. You never cared if I was cranky or stressed or tired. You were my best friend no matter what. My heart hurts because your favorite spot on the floor is now so cold and empty. When it's time to say goodbye, everybody has the same doubts: are we doing the right thing? How can anything be more difficult than to weigh your need for peace against our own need to hold on. But we accept this pain so that it can end yours. And in an instant, your struggle to move and breathe turned to calm. My sweet baby boy. Unlike our previous experience where we were able to book ahead of time and plan for our pup's passing, this was a circumstance where our baby needed immediate services -- his body was failing. Once I saw our senior 13-yr old pup was telling me it was okay, I called Dr. Gonzalez at 7pm. She was at our home by 10pm. Our pup had been sick for several years, and in that last week, our primary vet had already told us his health was declining, so we at least knew the end was near. And I had already mentally prepared to be strong and let him go when he needed to -- so I had Dr. Gonzalez's number on hand. We live in an apartment building, so we reserved a spot for her in our lot as close as possible to an exit. She came upstairs to our home, and she had brought all her equipment. I had already imagined how I wanted this experience to go for my once in a lifetime soul pup. I sat on his favorite place on the sofa, and I had him in my lap. Dr. Gonzalez gave me a pee pad to wrap around him within the blanket understanding there could be an accident in the process as his body released his spirit. I had a candle lit. I had soft music playing. We had low lighting on to honor what was about to happen. Dr. Gonzalez was also super accommodating to our 2nd puppy who was curious about her and wondering what was happening to his big brother. She didn't shoo him away -- she invited us to keep the puppy around so he can know his big brother was about to pass on. She gave us time to speak to Nuxx, love on him, and then let him go. Then, it finally happened. And Dr. Gonzalez stepped out of our apartment for awhile, giving our little family time to grieve, sob, and hold our baby close. Our puppy sniffed him too and said his goodbyes. Then she came back, and she asked us if we wanted to be the ones to carry him out or she was happy to do so. My husband carried him, myself and our puppy followed along -- felt like a procession down our apartment hallway. We got to Dr. Gonzalez's car, and we gently placed our baby's body in her car, and said our goodbyes again. Then...it was done. Throughout the experience, Dr. Gonzalez was so incredibly supportive, gentle, understanding, and patient. What else can you ask for when such a heartbreaking thing is occurring? When a spirit is literally fading in your arms? I am still not over losing him, but at least I know we gave him the most peaceful send-off we could: in his own home, in our arms, surrounded by so much love. If / when we need to go through again, I will continue to call on Dr. Gonzalez. RIP Nuxx.

I hope that you are reading reviews of IVS Mobile Vets for any reason other than why I sought their services. But if that time has come, when your beloved pet can no longer continue pain-free and without complications, you are told you have options. Someone told me to "drop him off at a shelter" and "start the grieving process". Others said to take him to a vet and have him euthanized at the clinic. Cost being a factor, I was mortified at the prospect of having to consider either of the above options. Abandoning a family member to die alone and wonder why? Who can do that? I came very close to having to consider that option; that is until I found IVS Mobile Vets. Encouraged by glowing reviews, I called to inquire about end-of-life care services and pricing. Dr. Moore answered my call, and even before we could get to details, she solemnly and compassionately listened to me go on and on about my little Donnie, and validated my immense grief over what was to come. Moreover, despite prices for everything everywhere being at an all-time high, Dr. Moore quoted me at-home euthanasia and private cremation for almost $200 LESS than the next lowest quote that I obtained... and I had called over a dozen vets and organizations. Donnie went to sleep on February 15, at about 1pm. In the comfort and safety of his own home, while lying in the bed that we shared for over 13 years, he drifted peacefully, and I held him until his frail little body started to cool, I don't know if it was a 1/2 hour or 1/2 a day, but Dr. Moore left us alone and gave me the time I needed for closure. Dr. Moore was gentle, patient, and truly compassionate. Despite it being the most heartbreaking day of my life, the occasion was peaceful and life-affirming, and I will mourn and cherish that memory for the rest of whatever's left of my own life. Every corner of my home is a mine field of Donnie memories, and I can't envision a day when I could come home and not long to see his little face in the upstairs window, waiting for me to open the door. But, I am forever comforted to know that I did right by my little guy, loving and caressing him to the very end. Donnie's ashes were delivered to me in person about a week later, with a heartfelt card, dignified packaging, and supplemental literature on grieving.
