Went to get my daughters hair trimmed. The experience was ok. I think it matters who you get. We got a person who wasn't great with kids and didn't speak English. The cut was just ok and the price was reasonable. It was crowded and didn't wait long read more

Been going here for too long! I'm loyal but on limited income. Hahn has barely cut my hair 4 times in a row. When I return to get more cut off he either says, "There's nothing wrong with the haircut!" or "I cut a lot off!" Unfortunately I need a haircut that will last 6 - 8 weeks, not 6 - 8 days!!!! I'm tired of battling with him. Just don't have the energy. Also, with him, the customer is NEVER right. :/ read more

Ive been here veggie and loved my haircut but today i didn't get a shampoo which was fund but the charged me the same as last time. Also i hate my bangs! They look like she didnt know how to cut a straight line read more

I went for haircut before job interview. I looked great and I got this job! thank you! :)

It is super hard to find a reliable cheap men's haircut. This cut was fast but in a way that did not jeopardize the quality. Trinh asked questions throughout the appointment about what she was about to do to make sure that she stayed on track. She was just hands-down awesome. I will not be going anywhere else for as long as I live in the Bay Area. read more

Her name is Trinh! Best color job I've ever gotten (caveat: single-process color), plus a wash, blowout & minor trim. She cut off exactly what I asked & my hair looks great! All for 80 bucks! Yay!!! read more

I recently moved to Emeryville 3 months ago from San Francisco and needed a new place to get my haricuts! I used to go to Mia Bella Salon in San Bruno... I love them dearly but the 45 mins drive and $6 bridge toll to get a haircut finally paid its toll on me and my wallet. I was working in Oakland one day and needed a haircut so i went onto Yelp to find a reasonable place. I came across BetterCuts and read many GREAT reviews about Han so I thought I would give them/him a try. I called and he was able to see me the same day - this alone gave them 3 stars. The haircut, freindliness and cleaniless of the place gave them 2 additional stars! Han was quick and is good at what he does... the best part? Men's haircuts are only $17!!! I came back for a second cut and this one was better than the first. I will definitely be a loyal customer and will refer! read more

For men's cuts they do a great job. They have become my local hair salon now. I'm pleased with the results. They are attentive to the custome and pay attention to detail. read more

Ok this place seriously amazed me. I really wanted to get bangs and change my hair color without getting all my hair chopped off. I forgot the womens name who cut my hair ( she was a younge asian women and totally awsoe) but i told her what i wanted and showed her a picture and told her i didnt want to lose my length. Everytime I have gotte my hair cut I have been totally unsatisfied but she did an amazing job! My new bangs and hairstyle were perfect and the highlights were amazing! She spent a lot of time on my fine, damaged hair and never said anything bad about it (like most hair salons say about my hair) They even worked on my hair past closing and I neverfelt like they were rushing to get it done. The ending price was amaing for the amount of work i had done. I will for sure be returning for my next appointment!! read more

I asked for my roots to be done evenly all around my head and for them to blend them in well. I'll let these pictures speak for themselves. And the orange toner they picked was horrible. Ugh. So, this is a bad review. read more

UGH. I have been here three times, and left crying twice. Yesterday an employee there (smallish Asian with a short haircut) layered my bangs when I told her to cut them straight. She then tried to correct her error and the result was a ridiculous uneven mess of several different lengths of bangs. I was so upset. The cashier told me to go home and think about it then come back in and they would fix it....that I shouldn't go home upset! He made this remark despite the fact that I did not complain at all, so it must have been obvious that my bangs were jacked up even to him. I had to come home and have my roomate cut my bangs evenly which means now they are like an inch shorter than I wanted. This place is sketchy. There is a white gay guy that does a good job but the others are terrible. read more

Hanh is the best! I bounced around different hair places for years, usually not repeating a place more than once or twice. I've been going to Hanh now for three years straight, I got complements right after my first cut with him, which I was not used to. But I am now. Every time I get a fresh cut, friends, family and coworkers will say, wow nice cut! He also will give me ideas on new styles to try when I'm not sure how I want to get it cut. Highly recommend Hanh, and the price is super reasonable considering how good you'll look and feel! read more

4/5 solid haircut they are nice and remember you. it's never super busy, but make an appointment to be on the safe side. queer friendly! pretty cheap, starting at $17 for a men's cut. read more

I've come here three times and have found it a great value. I've been very happy with the cuts. Last time I got a shampoo for no extra charge, which was awesome! It probably helps that I've come in late in the afternoon after appointments at Kaiser, when there are very few other customers. read more

Great place to get a haircut, make an appointment to beat the crowd, but I've had a few different people cut my hair and/or style it and they've all done an excellent job. I never left there unhappy and I've been going since the one on Piedmont Ave opened. read more

Hanh Solo rules! He did my cut quick, precise and economically. Thanks!

Cindy was nice. Fast, friendly and professional. I left feeling so much better and looking handsome. Walked right in and no wait. This was a first. I used to live in the neighborhood and whenever I went in there would always be a couple of people in front of me but the wait was never long anyway. I'm not fussy so I'd recommend if you need a quick straight forward tidying up at a very reasonable price. read more

Friendly, attentive, and an excellent cut! Hannah was my cutter and she was professional and very excellent! Happy New Year!

I have been getting haircuts and hair dye with Hanh for the last 6 months. I'm very picky about how my Hair look like, because it can completely change your appearance and camouflage your aging flaws. Hanh always make me look 15 years younger. He is very professional and attentive. I love his sweet and adorable smile. The place is client-friendly, spacious and clean. I often see the families coming for the haircuts. form the neighborhood. Also, It is impossible to find a better price for the such a great quality of hairstyling. Thank you very much. read more

I have somewhat long hair that I get cut maybe once every six months at most. I lived in the Piedmont Avenue neighborhood for two years, and got my hair cut at BetterCuts three times. I got my last two cuts before I left Oakland from Trinh, and I didn't realize how much I liked them until I got my first cut after moving to Portland; I wish I could still have her cut my hair because she made it look great. Sometimes I even think about coming back to visit and getting a haircut while I'm there. Hahn does a pretty good job too, but damn, I miss what Trinh could do with my hair. read more

Better Cuts - not so much . cheap - yes, but you get what you pay for, which is too much cut off. Why don't people with non-curly hair don't get how to cut it? Right - because they don't have curly hair. When will i ever learn? Cleanliness - not so much either, quick and airy space - at least it didn't reek of products. Not going back unless i have straight hair. read more

Now i gave this a high rating and i'll tell you why. But first let me give you some backround as to others' experiences with this salon. My friend went there to get her hair cut 3 times, all of which they completely struck out. It was the same, middle aged asian woman that cut her hair, and gave a completely wrong cut and style than what she wanted, even straightening her red curls when she flat out said "NO". I have been told terrible things about this place since day one. So naturally i went myself. Trihn did an amazing job, giving my untamed, damaged mane a new look with sleek layers and red highlights. I've asked for Trihn everytime, she's younger and knows how to cater to her client's styles. As long as you make an appoitnment with Trihn, i can guarentee you'll be happy with your hair. Even if you're not, she'll redo it for free. read more

Really like this place, and I have been going every month for three years. Hanh typically cuts my hair - he always does a good job and is fast, friendly, competent, takes time to make sure I like the cut, and is good about keeping appointment times (I have also walked in without an appointment, and been taken care of quickly). Just got another cut tonight, and decided this merits my very first Yelp review. With this service level, consistent quality, and reasonable price, it's my kind of place and I'm sticking with it! read more

If you want your hair to get screwed this is the place. I specifically shown the picture of the haircut to the stylist and asked her if she can do it. I told her the length as well, but she messed up everything. She literally cut the double of the length what I asked her to keep, my haircut was not at all looking like the style what I shown her, when I started complaining to her about the mistakes. The owner came in between offered me to correct the haircut. He did what he can in the remaining length but I didn't like it at all. read more

The people are nice, and the haircuts are normally good. However, there is always a little something wrong when I go home, that I end up fixing. Usually it's no problem, until today. The lady who cut my hair asked me if I wanted her to "trim" my sideburns. When I think trim, I don't think shave. She literally left a shaved gap between my hair and my beard. So embarrassing!!!! I know it was a misunderstanding, but it still sucks. read more

one word: horrible. trust that I'll never go back. I had this asian woman stylist andshowed her the picture of the haircut I wanted she nodded confirming that she knew what she was going to do. 20 mins later I walk out of there with uneven bowl cut hairstyle-no where near close to the pictured I showed her. horrible experience never again. not worth the $17. read more

I have been looking for a good place to get my haircut forever. I have paid $40 for some, but here they only charge $19 for men. And when you think about it, it's hard to make a living on that, so I usually leave a tip. I also have trust issues with my hair, but now I can go in there without having to worry about how I will look when I walk out. One of the best things that I love about the place is that they accept walk-ins and there is almost always a stylist available. For a high school kid, I couldn't ask for anything better. The people are super nice, and the area is always clean. Finally, it's located on Piedmont Avenue, which has an amazing feel to it. I encourage all of you to try it out! read more

Great place - very clean. In and out quickly for a jr kid's cut. called ahead and they said 15 minutes. Were right on time, and they honored my "call in appt" In the midst of a lot of really overpriced salons, this place is great!!! read more

I like Kim Xuan Thi Tran. She works really hard and is a great mom she does my hair really well and is a beauty rose.Anyways I'm not just saying this only because she's my queen my mom and also my friend she is hardworking and so much more.Thank you for your time. read more

I should feel so guilty I've never written a review here. Hanh has been cutting my hair in various lengths for 5 years. I have never been any less than pleased with my results. He even cuts my kids' hair. I've lately been treating myself to the luxury of a beard trim. I always come out of there feeling at my most handsome. read more

Great group of affordable hair stylist. Use them for me and my kids. Yelp sucks for predetermining how long my review mist be.

Of course it's great that this place is walking distance from my house. It's also clean, affordable and I've yet to experience a long wait. The staff is also very friendly and cheerful. read more

This is my go to place when I need a hair cut. I have a lot of hair and it's always long when I come in for a cut. They charge a reasonable price and I always come out feeling fashionable and lighter when I come out. My fiance also goes there to get his hair cut. They do a good job with women's and men's cuts. Friendly but not too chatty. It doesn't get much better. :) read more

Hannah thank you for the lovely haircut! I walked in early on a Saturday morning with no appointment needing a couple inches cut off of my very long hair. She double checked with me on the amount of hair to cutoff before she took the first snip, and gave me exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be back in the future. read more

I called and they said I could come in 30 mins for a men's haircut. I got there 20 minutes early and they took me as soon as I got there anyways. The woman who cut my hair didn't tell me her name but she was so nice and did a really good job cutting my hair. I've been trying out different places in Oakland/Berkeley and this was my favorite. I probably won't go there again because I'm trying to get to know as many places as I can and it's not super accessible if you only take Bart and the bus to get places. If you're considering going here, I encourage you to try it. read more

it's taken me about a decade of cuts and disappoint to find a place/stylist that is consistently good. Hanh is the man!

I have yet to have a bad hair cut at BetterCuts. Paula and the rest of the staff are great. They go above and beyond satisfaction and make you feel comfortable. The shop is extremely clean and modern looking with free tea if you like it. I never take the tea offer but still, its pretty cool. This salon actually cuts your hair how you tell them to cut it! For a men's cut it runs at $17. They usually spend at least thirtty minutes on the cut where in other shops, its been around ten minutes at times. They offer a wash and gel if you prefer to have it. If you need a cut, go there and you wont be disappointed BetterCuts offers you a rewards card where eight cuts gets you a free one. (Currently on 5 of 8) read more

The quality of your cut really depends on the stylist you get. That said, I've liked all my cuts - just been surprised at how differently each stylist interprets your basic "take an inch off" middle aged lady short hair. Bring a picture - and enjoy the comfortable surroundings, fast service, and friendly staff. read more

OMG i don't know were to start i came in with long hair and wanted a long bob.... My hair is so short... She just killed me... I know its just hair and it grows back but she chopped it all off. We took our 1 year old son to get a haircut and believe me when I say he is very well behaved. You should not give us a lady that doesn't speak English and quickly looses her patience with kids. She didn't listen to what I wanted and got extremely scissor happy happy and kept cutting even after I asked her to stop cutting as much. One of the gentlemen had to step in and fix the back bc she left him with a mullet. She's absolutely awful, I will never be going back and can't wait for my sons hair to grow back. read more
