When I walked in, I was greeted by the familiar smell of fresh baked cakes and cookies. One of my childhood friend's family owned a bakery. There was only one little cake was left when we arrived. I wasn't thinking ahead, so that was my fault, but also a good sign! It wasn't fancy, but just the perfect amount. I also bought some of the beautifully decorated flower sugar cookies. While I was waiting to pay, an older gentleman commented to me that he worked there 62 years ago as a junior in high school, and the recipes have not changed since then. I was sold! When it came time to celebrate my friend's birthday, my whole group agreed that their chocolate cake and cookies brought them back to their childhoods.
