I am very reluctantly writing an unfavorable review of Better Home Ideas. This company was recommended by my cousin. Yes, I still speak to her. But Robert Lomax, the owner of Better Home Ideas over-promised, under-delivered and over-charged. We hired Robert to remove and replace 2000 sq ft of water damaged floors, paint our entire apartment, renovate our master bathroom and install 2 new lighting systems and 2 new electric outlets very specifically with 10 gauge wire along with Ethernet cable to run to areas with poor wifi. We moved out of the apartment into a hotel while the floors (2200 Sq ft) where removed and replaced. Robert said it you take 10 to 14 days (as did other installers who we got quotes from). It took 5 1/2 weeks!!!! We moved into the hotel on November 8th and got back into our apartment on December 15th. During this time while we ran up a $9000 hotel bill, Robert had only 2 workers working on the floor at a time while not starting any of the other tasks at hand. When we moved back in on December 15th, yes the floors were finally done, but only one room had been painted and none of the electrical work or lighting had been done (although he did lay but didn't connect or complete 12 gauge wiring, even though I was very specific in requesting 10 gauge wiring.) He charged me anyway. Two rooms were painted, even though it was requested NOT to paint that second room. He charged me for the second room anyway. Robert's solution to completing the rest of the work - for us to stay out of the apartment through Christmas and New Years. Really? We told Robert that we would resume after the holidays. Once the master bathroom supplies arrived, I called Robert to finish the master bathroom. I'm still waiting to hear from him after 3 weeks. Part of the project was a bathroom renovation we were told would start on August 2, so were moved out of the master bathroom and bedroom (which they needed for staging and equipment and we moved into a spare bedroom. Robert didn't start until 2 weeks later. The bathroom renovation was delayed by supply-line problems (not Robert's fault). During the bathroom renovation, Robert installed a beautiful American walnut custom made vanity from a cabinet maker in Oregon. Once the vanity was installed, Robert realized the outlet were too low for the backsplash. Robert's recommended solution: cut the legs of the vanity 1 1/2 inches so that the outlet would now be right height! I said "no" and the outlets were raised - by cutting holes in the quartzite backsplash. It looks awful and is currently being replaced. I have hired a new contractor to complete all the work Robert and Better Home Ideas never got to do after 5 months in our apartment. Never again. Oh, by the way, Robert's painter cut our fiber optic cable which costs $500 to repair. I'm still waiting for reimbursement from Robert. And he over ordered excess flooring to the tune of $1300 which still sits in our living room which it appears that I'm stuck with. And, oh yeah, there's the $5000 emergency stash that disappeared from a closet lock box that had been pried open. Although I don't know who took the money, direct unfettered access to that closet was extremely limited. This building is very secured and has a 24 hours a day doorman - apartment theft is virtually unheard of here.). The money was discovered missing 2 weeks after the project started. I'm not accusing.
